For as many times as he repeats to the player, "I'm a cleaner; I can feel no remorse from seeing a dead body," Emir is _so distraught_ to learn that he killed the syndicate that it's suddenly hard to believe him. I find that to be such an endearing detail. Despite everything, the Smiths had something special. Emir _cared_ about them. There was a certain kind of stable fulfillment to be found in blasting Smiles together, even while the geopolitical situation continued to deteriorate. I can't help but think that Emir felt the same way I did every time I crossed over the Vinculum Gate, feeling in equal measure the camaraderie of the group and the thrill of the battle. And then, on a mission that--for all outward appearances--was supposed to be like any other... it's all gone. From a certain point of view, it was never real in the first place. I empathize _so much_ with the expression of horror Emir makes when he opens his attache case for the final time. The quaver in his voice makes me _feel_ his terrified remorse, and it's beautifully heartbreaking. killer7 is one of those games that I don't think I'm ever going to forget.
@Mazryonh2 жыл бұрын
Did Emir actually care about the Killer7? He killed them in cold blood like it was nothing at the tender age of 13. He also doesn't spend any time "bonding" with them during the course of the game (especially since they don't exist without him "projecting" through them), either, so I'm not sure about that. That said, I agree that Killer7 is one of those hard-to-forget games once you get through it.

@@Mazryonh I don't think 13-year-old Emir Parkreiner cared about the Smiths. I do, however, think that Garcian Smith--the man who cried out in denial upon learning of his part in their deaths--cared about them.

@@Cosplaybuddygiraffes To me I felt like the twist was that the game led you to believe that it was about a global conflict (East vs. West) - and it still is, in fact the story takes place on many different levels of conflict - but taking the grandness of the conflict presented in the narrative and tying it up with an extremely personal, small moment was what got me.

I love this track. After a game that works hard to present a searingly stark feeling of violence at every single corner, for just a couple breaths here at the very end, we get to stay with Garcian and feel a tender human emotion for the first and last time in the game. ...and then the song is over, and it's back to killing.
