Real Responders

3 жыл бұрын

This week on New Detectives - Bombers, snipers, spree killers: some people don't care who they kill, they just want to hurt innocent people. These killers are the hardest to catch because they have no connection with their victims, who are just in the wrong place at the wrong time. But even random bloodshed leaves traces at the scene that can direct an investigation and stop the killer before he can strike again.

As a gun owner the bullets in the tree gave me an idea. The gun store owner test fired the gun into the tree where the bullets were "preserved" for future use by police in a shooting investigation. Maybe every new gun that is produced should be test fired at the factory and the slug and shell casing markings documented on a database. This way in the future if police are investigating a shooting and have slugs and casings from the crime they can first search the database for a match much like they do with fingerprints. I would even go a step further and suggest any gun sold at any retail establishment even if it's a used gun should have the same procedure and slug and case information uploaded and attached to that gun serial number and last date of retail sale which would of course also contain the name of the buyer. This would be valuable information in solving crimes especially as time goes on.

What an outstanding police work on the Peter Sylvester case...to build a database of 200.000 possible suspects, narrow it down to 600, then comes a somewhat vague profile ..that gave a lead. Absolutely amazing.

A lot of killers willingly give their DNA because they think they can out smart the police and don't want to appear guilty, by refusing. Also, sometimes it takes a long time to test the DNA due to backlog, so the killer has a false sense of safety.

That parole officer that called the police deserves a medal, if not for his quick thinking and making that phone call, it may have taken a lot longer to find the guy. When you read reports about this online, they hardly ever mention the parole officer and rather, they refer to the “luck and skill” of the police involved. Aaaanyway. OMG, the guy in the restaurant. How awful, one minute you’re having a meal and chatting, and the next minute all hell breaks loose. And the dude in the cashier booth - I was thinking, sure, the glass is definitely bulletproof, but the rest of the booth looked pretty flimsy (I do understand that it was a reenactment) but it’s not beyond the realms of possibility. It would be a horrible situation to be in. The last thing you want to do is show yourself, but If the glass is better protection than the walls or doors, what could you do - show yourself and press yourself to the glass in the window frame, or stay down out of sight behind a structure that may or may not protect you?🙂🐿

I looked it up as well, he is using intellectual disability as grounds, not a mental disability. There is a huge difference between the two and it is not only his own case he is appealing, he wants Georgia to change its laws that allows offenders with some intellectual disabilities to be executed, claiming that it violates the Eighth Amendment proscription against cruel and unusual punishment. And he does have a point because the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in 2002 (Atkins vs Virginia) that the execution of individuals who have intellectual disabilities is a violation of the Eighth Amendment. If he can prove that he does in fact have intellectual disabilities then The State of Georgia cannot legally execute him and will be forced to strike down their law allowing it. I do not by any means condone what he did, but the whole truth needs to be known.

He isn’t mentally or intellectually disabled. He is a monster that destroyed our lives and he should have had his sentence carried out a long time ago. My brother had 19 years and it along with his future and his fiancée’s were stolen by this monster! They were killed 2 blocks from our home. He has no more appeals and his judgement day will come sooner than later, and I am not talking about him just getting an IV and going to sleep. He is evil. He threatened to kill others, even his own family. He was intelligent enough to hide evidence. His lawyers were grasping at straws to win a case to put them “on the map”. Thank goodness we had a DA that got him convicted and sentenced.

The FBI Files and the The New Detectives will always be my VERY TOP true crime/ forensics related docuseries of all times. Despite the fact that both shows were pioneering forensics programs, created and produced, long before the ID network started flooding every household with various new criminal documentaries or docuseries.. Both shows, even though lacking some of the very recent technological nuances, techniques that enhance the overall production of the show, still stand out in overall making of it; first of all, they both hired the best narrators in the game-- as obsessed as I am with certain narrators voices, such as Bill Curtis, Peter Thomas and Keith Morrison, I personally find Gene Galusha, the narrator of the New Detectives, the most fascinating; his voice is so creepy, histrionicly so somber and captivating, that honestly a lot of times I cannot watch the New Detectives, when I am home alone. I always seem to feel a presence of a serial killer around me. That's how powerful Mr. Galusha's voice was for my discerning and had such a powerful impact on me. Also, The New Detectives has, by far, the most death-breathing, defying, bespeaking musical arrangements; some parts remind you of a very dark funeral, some- suspension, overwhelming presence of a killer in the next, dark room. Sadly, Mr. Galusha passed away some years ago; just like Mr. Peter Thomas, both REALLY embodied the shows' main aspect, and their mesmerizing voice -overs were incomparable. Sadly, with their passing, this world will never be lucky again to have newer crime case stories with their most powerful voices. With Mr. Galusha's narration, along with the masterpiece musical arrangements the New Detectives was produced as a massive hit that until today I insatiably indulge myself in random episodes and next thing I know I've watched 4-5 episodes. The FBI Files and The New Detectives are the only shows I've by far in the last 15-18 years I've watched the most-- some episodes more than a dozen of times. I'd love to know if there are any avid fans out there that feel the same way about these docuseries, like I do, or if they still, despite having been aired first almost 2 decades ago, still find themselves watching some random episodes as passionately as they used to when they first started watching them. I'd definitely would love to hear a lot of feedbacks, to see if others feel the same way. Thanks in advance!
