Agree. They literally "owned" the Hammersmith Palais, when they came on after the mediocre support (Doctor and the Medics) in 1984/5: it was "buckle your seat belt", and: "IT'S A WAR DANCE"! Exhilarating. The mosh pit got dangerously short of oxygen: I had to get out to breath.

Like so many 17-yr olds in 198o, i tapped into the Killing Joke, in my particular case, fuelled by Python. To cut a l.s. short, i lost interest around Outside the Gates (injustly underrating what i now consider one of their most subversive works...), but then Jeremy kept popping up in the most unsuspected places, blasting out deeds and opus of awesome dimension, holding on the Joke at majestic pace, with his bona fide Loki-esque persona. Apart from that, in between the Songs from the Victorious City (with Ann Dudley) and Pylon, he sort of prophesized the near future. I guess the world owes more to Jaz,Geordie,BigPaul, Youth and Raven, than to the J-P-G-R dudes from Liverpool. Ha!

We need some new Joke right now. It’s been 6 years their 2nd longest period of inactivity between albums (7 years between Democracy and KJ 2003 is longest). Or have they called it a day. Surprised they’re silent in times like these...
@gr3y_eminence3 жыл бұрын
Agreed. Though last year Jaz released a solo song and video "The Day The Earth Went Mad" and in the last few days old recordings of Jaz and Geordie playing with Peter Hook were released. It's not KJ but evidence of activity. Youth is also active, he dropped a remix of I Am The Virus a few weeks ago. Having listened to the last three albums a lot, especially Pylon (with the additional tracks like Apotheosis, Plague and Panopticon) and Absolute Dissent (The Great Cull, This World Hell, Endgame). I think their opinions are pretty clear in the lyrics haha. Personally I love them more than ever, really dug into the backcatalog in the last 3 years. There are not too many bands I feel like are relevant to the times we live in. After the last year Democracy and Pandemonium have new power as well. So here's to hoping they get together in person soon for recording...I know they're all in different countries and prefer a live style of recording .
@Mike-aka7473 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. These guys were talking about pandemics and depopulation really anything related to these darker times etc etc since the early eighties. I just recently discovered to my surprise the K93 project. Good to know they’re still active. I was getting concerned. I’ve been a Joke fan since 1992. First introduction was their Laugh I nearly bought one compilation. It was a life changer for sure. Geordie doesn’t get enough credit. He’s got a sound that he totally owns never to be duplicated others try as they may but there’s only one. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again. KJ are a force, more than they are an actual band.

Those who have the vinyls from the begining (including Are you receiving / Turn to Red) can see that there is a clock on the sticker. On "Are you receiving / Turn to Red", we see it's an alarm clock (on the other records, the drawing is "deformed "). This clock turns anti-clockwise and, on each vinyl, time is different, each time coming closer to midnight. Just before the first record without the clock, time is really near to midnight. And the first vinyl without the clock is... "A New Day". chortle chortle.
