I first heard this song when I was in middle school in the mid 2000s. Me and my family were in the living room away from the windows because at the time there was a hurricane and we didn't want to risk getting hit by broken glass if the winds broke them. My sisters played this over and over while the winds were booming and it was surreal and haunting asf. It was the first song I heard from Elliot and this might sound cheesy but this song redefined what music meant to me. I've always wondered when Elliot and all culture, pop or otherwise, will be lost when this generation and their kids fade in 150 years but I guess it doesn't matter. His music will always have meaning and reminds me that timelessness doesn't mean being immune to being lost in the sands or snow of time. All that matters is being lost or celebrating in the art that means something to you in your life because everything will be erased- even the invention of time when the last man or woman dies.

No matter how far I make it from my days as a junkie I always come back to Elliott. So much of his later work speaks to that part of me the most clearly. I don't know why I can't excise that part of me. The hopeless, scared, numb, alone 22 year old. Surrounded by people who love me (unlike most in my position) but unable to see it. I want to cut him out of me and leave him behind but no matter how hard I try he's still there, woven into my soul like a patchwork quilt. Every few months I come back to these songs and as a result I come back to that part of me. The part of me I don't speak of, that part I can only write about for random internet strangers. When I listen to songs like this I want to cry, I desperately need to cry, but I can't. And because I can't, that scared, numb 22 year old, the one with so many reasons to live but who lives like he has so many reasons to die, he sticks around in spite of my most fervent wishes. When it's quiet he whispers in my ear that I can put on a suit and tie, I can start a career, but somewhere deep down there will always be a part of me salivating for the chance to bang a needle full of golden brown oblivion straight into the crook of my arm If you got to the end of this, I am sorry for rambling. I just don't know how to forgive myself and forget. I guess I just needed to put it into words

This, one of my favorite songs, not just by Elliot, by Anyone. Every line in this song is utter brilliance, even the ambient sounds in this song. The beginning conversation that jumble together, I always imagine a mans life flashing before his very eyes, The conversations seem to display a sense of feigned sense of control or dominance over the issues that have always troubled him. Like random moments as he tried to "fake it till he made it" In this sense it was happiness. It was always taken away somehow. Or lost, and even thrown away and sabotaged even. Hes hearing bits and parts from his past converging at a crossroad. The entire album speaks like a dead man sent back from the future to come in loud and clear.. But this song truly confirms it: "This is the place where time reverses, and dead men talk to all the pretty nurses. Instruments shine on a silver tray, dont let me get carried away." But sadly, we all know he was taken away far to soon. He made that choice to go on his own. So the song is a crossroads of sorts. and it ends with his plea. Which is now downright eerie now and will remain so as long as his music is heard. I have heard people mention the danger of his music. If you are on the same wavelength as he, this music will really get in your mind and heart and you will take his trip to the end again. He will accompany you. You will live this story of kings crossing out in your own life and times and the two of you will definentely find a beautiful place to get lost. But he offers a choice. To see this song as a parable to represent futility, to be left with his ghost crying out for help. Knowing that the request for relief will remain unfulfilled. Knowing he died long ago and you cannot stop it. If all things end and that is what you seek, will you become the ghost? Or, do you wish to walk away on a path of recovery from your pain? Because his story can become your own if you cannot make the choice to use it for strength and positive change. Kings Crossing is the most beautiful things ive ever heard and that is no lie.

Knowing that Elliott struggled with mental health and eventually killed himself affects the listening experience profoundly, especially with this one. The first time I heard this it was so chilling, and still is.

c'est la vegan actually there's no proof he stabbed himself. His gf at the time were having an argument she locked herself upstairs and came down after hearing a scream. Kinda strange just like C.C and K.C but whatcha gonna do. He was already starting to believe people were following him.

I literally can't listen to this song anymore and it's one of his all time best. When you know what happened to this guy, and that it was written in 1999 at the height of his addictions (it only came out on basement four years later) it's just too much. Don't do heroin.

The section from 1:48-2:20 is a bit weird because the phrases are irregular lengths while the metre underneath is 4/4. At first I thought it was a mixed metre (4/4+3/4+3/4+2/4+4/4) but if you add those you get 16/4 so it’s really just a riff that lasts four bars.

So Elliott wrote this song before he died, or killed himself.. rip Elliott. So I was reading about his life and turns out this album wasn't finished until a year after his suicide. The people who finished it were friends and family of Elliott, mainly friends I guess. But his family choose the songs for this album. But anyway, I always thought, that when they were mastering this song, the "because we love you" part between "give me one good reason not to do it" and "So do it" was added by his lady friend who was mastering it. I didn't really explain that super elegantly but I always thought that it was interesting. And super sad, I love you elliott. We miss you.

I know absolutely everywhere says otherwise, but I think the line is "frustrated fireworks inside your head, stand to deliver/dark instead" I think its about feeling incredibly unsettled and anxious and having a voice in your head telling you that you need to do something, and then totally freezing up. "Going dark" Idk its just my interpretation
