The Decemberists need more love. My mom introduced me to the band when I was little, and every time we would go up to my grandparent's house she would play this album. It's been in my life for all this time and only recently I took notice of it after the Leigonnaire's Lament popped up in a playlist I was listening to. Reminds me of good times :)

I remember hearing the saying "nothing really matters" and thinking, what a sad way to think. But, now that I think about it I wasn't looking at it the right way. When someone says "nothing really matters" they mean you shouldn't take things so seriously. If you fail just try again. No one is ever good at anything on their first try

Take a long drive with me On California One, California One Take a long drive with me On California One, California One And the road a-winding goes From Golden Gate to roaring cliff side And the light is softly low As our hearts become sweetly untied Beneath the sun Of California One Take a long dram with me Of California wine, of California wine Take a long drown with me Of California wine, of California wine And the wine, it tastes so sweet As we lay our eyes to wander And the sky, it stretches deep But will we rest our heads to slumber? Beneath the vines Of California wine Beneath the sun Of California One? Annabelle lies Sleeps with quiet eyes On this sea-drift sun What can you do? And if I said "Oh, it's in your head" On this sea-drift sun What can you do? (I've heard of ghosts Good ghosts who wander the battlefield at night Guiding soldiers out of danger You can see their omens everywhere Omens warning of stray bullets and lurking enemies If I were such a ghost I would stay so close to you You could feel my breath on your cheek) We're calling all bed-wetters and ambulance chasers Poor picker-pockets, bring 'em in Come join the youth and beauty brigade Come join the youth and beauty brigade We're lining up the light-loafered and the bored bench warmers Castaways and cutouts, fill it up Come join the youth and beauty brigade Come join the youth and beauty brigade Nothing will stand in our way I figured I had paid my debt to society By paying my overdue fines at the Multnomah County Library, at the library And they said "Son, go join up" Go join the youth and beauty brigade Come join the youth and beauty brigade Come join the youth and beauty brigade Come join the youth and beauty brigade Nothing will stand in our way

@joemorris12826 жыл бұрын
I've only just grown to truly appreciate this song, having been a massive Decemberists fan over the last 13 years or so since Picaresque was released. I had somewhat neglected their first 2 albums despite enjoying many of the tracks on them, namely July July, Here I dreamt I was an architect, and the legionnaires lament, but I'd not listened to the album as a whole in years. This is like the curtains have been drawn to reveal a bright sunny day! Colin Meloy is a genius.
@haydnkramer44643 жыл бұрын
Not from TikTok, but (and it really does not matter) how you found yourselves here. Lucky you did. The Decemberists are having a series of concerts streaming "live" over the past two weeks and one to come. What you realize watching them in such an intimate (under the eyeball of microscope like) setting---you realize, 1) These guys have all developed "chops" over the past 20 years, 2) they love each other, and 3) the creativity and brilliance they bring to what you feel here; is real.....

Not here from tiktok, sorry- I do have a valid question tho. Is this a wink to the Youth Brigade? I bet its not, I always kinda hoped the Decemberists were punk rockers.
