It’s so satisfying to reset plants. It makes me happy seeing people like you showing others that they don’t need to be afraid to change things up. I’m definitely team one stem for a “pot” with these guys but I use tall vases and can place other plants in similar setups around them to create a fuller look. I also find the extra height to add more stability for anchoring the support Speaking of support, yours looks amazing. Love that look.

@@habibaballa2934 - it can be difficult losing plants. Unlocking all the ways to make them happy and learning about troubleshooting is part of what makes this hobby interesting to me. That’s why I’m so grateful to channels like this. When there are setbacks, I try to feel grateful for what I learned. It isn’t mentioned a lot, but if a plant has great light and you’re meeting their other needs, pests are often part of the equation. I didn’t know my Monsteras had thrips until they had taken over. I took most of the down to one leaf cuttings and isolated them for treatment. They’re growing back out now. The good thing is, Monsteras tend to take a reset well if you can made the hard decisions early enough. That’s not helpful now, I know. But it’s something to consider for next time.

If you own an aquarium, hang some air roots into the aquarium and watch the monstera grow like crazy. It will also help to keep your aquarium clean as it filters a lot of nitrates from the water.

I found with my rescue I could also train the leaves to face forward with some help of some ribbon gently tied near the leaf neck and back to the pole. Along with a vertical grow light I was able to eventually release the ribbons and had a very "organized" looking monstera. But I also have some droopy,less hardy, less full looking leaves, that I think are what makes your re-arranged monstera example as reading less attractive.

You could always just GIVE it to a plant shop if they would be willing to mess with it, and you are not. At least it would get a second chance at living a good life. If MY old plant becomes too difficult for me, I was thinking I would do this. And perhaps start out fresh with a new plant and staking it properly from the get-go.

Would you please explain why cutting off leaf, which hasn't died yet, will slow down the growth? I cut off one of lower leaves recently, I was convinced it'll take the energy wasted for that small leaf and direct it towards new growth:/
@KillThisPlant
@KillThisPlant 8 ай бұрын
Example 1: the plant is in its pot in a closed system. The leaves only job is to produce energy for the plant. Fewer leaves, less energy. Example 2: the plant has been cut and it is water propagating (open system) With a now small root system, the plant needs to work extra hard to move water from the roots to the stem and foliage. With too much foliage the plant will not be able to provide all the water it needs. The plant will start to kill off foliage in hopes to save the newest leaves. This is why it is important to propagate some plants with limited foliage.

I was just given a very sick looking monstera obliqua, to try and revive it. It’s my first monstera. It appears that maybe the pot is too big, by looking at this video, do they prefer tighter space? Edit: I scrolled comments and found a good answer. Thanks!

How long did you put it into the water to make the root grow?

Can monstera be grown indoors away from windows and be happy? I’d like to get one for my room, but I’ve only got 1 window and it’s North facing (in Texas) which means no light. Don’t want to get one if I can’t keep it in my room.

if you use a light meter (or light meter app) you would need around 200fc / 2100 lux for 12 hours you can have moderate growth.

My monstera has been doing great but all the sudden it’s slowly getting a ton of yellow leaves . I did repot with new soil and the whole plant looks like it’s going south .. not sure what to do .Any help would be appreciated 😊

How do you make the leaves so shiny?! 🤩 Is there a spray or something or is it just wiping?

I literally don't do anything. Maybe it's just the lighting.

Can you use any stick found somewhere outdoors? I finally found the perfect spot for my monstera but after a lot of growth it looks like a jungle of mess. This was a great video to teach me how to fix that.

Not really. You have to prep it. I would suggest looking into aquarium channels and blogs to read about 'how to prepare wood/found wood for an aquarium" otherwise the stick may rot quite quickly. Different pieces of wood have different levels of rot resistance as well .

why the distance between 2 leafs in your monstera is so long? like 10-15cm, mine is only 3-5cm
