The final video in our 'Last Words' series is dedicated to James Connolly, who was executed in Stonebreakers' Yard in Kilmainham Gaol on 12 May, 1916. Unlike the other thirteen leaders executed there, James Connolly was not held in the Gaol as he had been badly wounded in the Rising and was being cared for in a hospital in Dublin Castle. The video features his daughter Nora's account of the final meeting she and her mother had with him there. Also included is a detail of a conversation Connolly had with a doctor who cared for him who asked that Connolly pray for him. The text is taken from Piarais F. Mac Lochlainn's book, 'Last Words, Letters and Statements of the Leaders Executed After the Rising at Easter 1916'.
