Ana…I enjoyed the video and the look of your bird-handle bowl, the small pitcher as also the 2-bird bowl. You make such beautiful things! I’ve been using Amaco’s jet black for outlines and it comes out fine. Haven’t used Velour. Looking forward to your Mishima painting video. I love the translucent look of Chandra Debuse’s pottery.

Coyote says it should fire glossy. I am getting close to a cone 6 in my firings. I can’t remember if you are firing to 5 or 6

I know these aren’t the way you had envisioned but I literally couldn’t tell what was wrong with th first piece. It’s absolutely gorgeous!! I’m still watching but other people don’t know what you had in mind so they look absolutely fine. The next pieces look lovely with the soft colors. Looks like you did it on purpose. The fact that all of these look the same makes it totally look like a set!! I was going to suggest the designer liner. You can use a brush with it but the thicker line is better to keep the true black. Definitely make a test piece using the brush with the liner. Your nieces piece is just beautiful!!

Try amaco Jet Black underglaze, there isn’t any cobalt in it so it may not fade

Hello Ana. You are definitely too hard on yourself! I agree with some of the comments made here earlier, these are beautiful and definitely sellable not as 2nds!!! If it is useful to you, I also like to use a black liner to my drawings. Although I only fire in low temperatures, the black underglaze I use is Amaco Velvet Underglazes V - 361 name is Jet Black.

I use Amaco velvet UG jet black at cone 5-6. I heard someone say that it is Stroke and Coat in the Designer Liners. I don’t know if that is true but… I have used S&C on greenware and gotten strong black at cone 5

I don’t know as much as you do but I’ve had to figure out the measurement of specific gravity of glazes to know their ideal thickness. As you know, clear glazes tend to turn milky when applied thickly so after ruining some pieces, I figured that the SG of 1.30 works better for Amaco’s HF-9 zinc free glaze and even lower figure for a clear glaze made locally in India. You may want to check the SG of your blue liner glaze.

Thank you so much. I don’t own a hydrometer!😂 I’m old school, I only use a few dipping glazes so I know each one what’s supposed to look like. I knew I had messed up and I really should have rinsed the glaze and start over. But that day I was tired and rushing the job, so that’s the price I paid. I’ll try to be better about that.🙏🏻💕

I simply use an 100 ml laboratory beaker with markings. With coloured glazes, I’ve begun to go by the glaze consistency but clear glazes have given me grief so I check it each time.

@@Worrier629 I mix my clear which is kittens clear. The recipe is in my Community post if you’d like to try it. It’s zinc free. Mine likes to be thin application, so I have to do a quick dip or sometimes I spray if it’s a large piece.

@@Maryzlem on the inside I used 3 coats and it’s on white bear clay from Kentucky Mudworks. It’s a very white stoneware similar to porcelain.

I'm sorry you feel so disappointed with the results. I know how that feels. I think they look lovely. I use Amaco Jet Black Velvet underglaze which I fire to Cone 6-7 and have never had a problem with fading. I make sculptures and do not do fine brushwork though.

I thought the first oval bowl was a bird bath. The light circles on the inside reminded me of water bubbles. It’s a shame the pieces faded.
