I've been wondering what this song is about, after listening a few times I think it's about hallucinations. The song is in the perspective of someone who hallucinates constantly. They view the abstract shapes, colors, and dreams as something else, something mystifying, possibly an invitation to a better place (thus the central line, "if i lead, will you follow?"). They are entranced, and want to step into this new world they've created ("show me the ways that you talk, and all of the places you walk"), but are scared, almost paralyzed by this and keep getting overwhelmed by the hallucinations (main verses). They feel that if they enter this world, they cannot turn back, or that they already passed that point and its too late. ("Love, they might lift you away", "everything was scattered by the light of day", "my hands are tied, these leads are mine") However, they decide to give in to the hallucinations, and enter the new world anyway ("it pulls you in, your light, your sin", "they pull you through, and right they do").

throughout *Creatures of Habit*, the album this is in, there are hints of insanity. The plot from what I can tell is a man falls in love with a ghost (or a siren?) named Julia , a love which destroys his life, his mind, and leaves him a drunkard on the street. I like your interpretation tho :)
