What's with all the single direction operation? Hasn't anyone in the UK ever heard of bi-directional CTC signaling? This isn't 1930.

Bi directional has been around for decades in the UK. This line was made bi directional on the Ayr - Glasgow direction in 1985. I used to work on this line.
