I think he knew. If you notice, he was writing when he saw something and looked up at her while she was looking away. He must have seen her name, looked at her to confirm, then acted like nothing happened. It was perfect too, because she never noticed him starting at her.

The way I see it is, he didn't recognise her until he saw the name on her card, and even then doubted himself initially, because it's weird seeing someone you recognise in an everyday setting. Then, he didn't labour the point, to avoid making it awkward.. Kudos to him for mentioning The Breeders rather than Pixies. Now, everyone, go watch her video for "The Root" - it's great!
