Plenty of people work extraordinarily hard their entire lives, but sometimes even that's not enough to replace being born into a wealthy family.

Right! Working abs having connections is two different things. She already had her foot in the door because of her Father’s name. That alone got her foot in the door, got her in the league of other wealthy offspring. She doesn’t know what hard work is and never will.

The emotional response isn’t about KIM! It’s about the ELITE telling us to pull ourselves up by our bootstraps while simultaneously BENEFITING from their privilege! It’s the classism for me! It’s the pretending like you don’t know there is a glass ceiling for me. Dineva, had she said something about a community YOU are a member of, I’m sure your sentiments would be different…because we have seen you go IN. So, we’re not allowing HER to control our emotions. We simply have them and can express ourselves enough to stand up to the privileged.

A mf word! Not only that, but wtf can’t my emotional response be just that? It’s HUMAN! For dineva to say why do we allow a person we don’t know to run our emotions…well why do you allow movies to make you cry? Or be happy? Why do when you see a black STRANGER getting murdered by police do you allow it to upset you? Why when you see a fine ass stranger do you allow your tusssy cat to feel stimulated? It’s human emotions we don’t have to know someone to have emotions for,of or about them!! I HATE that argument

No! This has nothing to do with it being Kim. It could have been any out-of-touch Rich wealthy woman telling the poor and middle class that the reason that they are not successful is because they're simply not working hard enough. That is disgusting because it is the poor and the middle class were holding this damn country up. Kim Kardashian cannot preach to anyone about working hard when she doesn't clean her own house, cook her own food, do her own chores, or even raise her own children.

No one is saying that Kim isn’t a great business woman NOW but let’s not act like she didn’t have the shit rolled out for her. No one is hating. We’re just tired of rich people, rather it be Kim or Trump and his “small loan of $1 million from his dad” or Kim’s sister Kylie who’s a self professed “self made” billionaire, telling us small business owners to work harder. Kim has a way of crediting herself for things she hasn’t achieved by herself, for example she denied promoting unrealistic beauty standards & attributed the way her body looks to her “getting off her ass” & doing the “work,” whilst failing/refusing to acknowledge/admit to the abundance of surgery she’s had which has hugely contributed to the way she looks. It’s the same here. Whilst her statement is in & of itself accurate, it needed to come with the acknowledgment that her success has come with not only hard work but a head start & a leg up. Anything short of that is a little patronising & to some offensive.

@@ObservingtheMatrix the only simple minded person here is you. Did you not read what this person just wrote about Kim stealing money from Brandy’s family and flipping it but want to tell us to work hard? Sex tapes were taboo back in the day which is why Pamela Anderson, Paris Hilton and Kim K earned notoriety from them. The IG thots of today will never be able to do what those women did because the market is over saturated with them now (I guess that’s the luck you speak of) as well as social media over exposure. At the end of the day Kim had a leg up: a name, celebrity inner circles and a team to help her build her brand. I do believe she works hard but let’s not act like this woman didn’t have a head start. Or ignore the resources she has that many of us will never have (Nannies, assistants, trainers, chefs etc). As an entrepreneur myself I know the difference between having a team and grinding on your own and it’s MUCH easier with a team. I started planning large scale events for a company I worked at and it was a lot of work. But, I had a team behind me which took some of the load off of me. When I branched off and started my own event company from scratch I didn’t realize how hard it was to do it alone. No assistants to order products. No warehouse staff to pack boxes. No team to put together the event or cleanup. I had to do that shit myself and it was hard and sucked. All while still working a 9-5, caring for family, cooking and cleaning etc. So yeah, Kim telling us to work hard while she’s surrounded by a team and money (startup money that she stole from Brandy) is tone deaf 🙄

@@ObservingtheMatrix simplemindedness is the blind worship of celebs and who the media sold to you as "rich" absent of using the critical thinking skills necessary to know when someone is pissing on your head and telling you that it's raining. The words "work ethic" and "Kardashian" do not belong in the same sentence absent of including the words "theft" , "malfeasance" and "fraud". I actually never had anything against Kim. However, it wasn't the statement she made for me. It was the tone in the message that rubbed me the wrong way: "Get off your F***n lazy asses"! Girl please, your biggest stress right now is Kanye! Most of us work really, really hard and have two jobs! All while having to cook, do laundry, clean, help with homework, drop off and pick up our kids for school activities, pick out clothes for the next day, etc. We also have home and vehicle repairs that some of us do ourselves because we cannot afford to pay someone. Or call someone that charges $50 -$100 bucks an hour just to come out! We do not have the luxury of having assistants, housekeepers, and nannies to do these things for us. So again, (in my opinion) it's not the message that was bad (because it wasn't). It was the delivery! (And I am not sure if you were trying to encourage or discourage women)!

Because she doesn't not understand number 1, she also doesn't get that just because you work hard, it does not mean you are guaranteed anything, a lot of the times it's just to scrape by, you get no rewards, you're still in debt, and all because of various systems that we are in.

There is also privilege, access, opportunity and luck. For others there is racism, ageism, etc. We don't need a lecture on work ethic from someone starting on 3rd base who has a team of people to help her personally & professionally. Dear Funky Dinerva, words can hurt others even if one doesn’t know the speaker. It was International Womens Day when Ms. Kim Kardashian gave her advice. Many things separate true unity between women and many women are taking notice of inner misogyny and ego that makes some women believe they are the only ones doing the work. This comment is in the same vein as Rachel Hollis. Who apparently is “successful” because she is the only one willing to wake up at 4am. Baristas and other morning shift employees don’t exist it seems. Also, this is the same person who said her family doesn’t set an impossible Beauty standard because they are the ones who “do the work and go to the gym.” So all the people who bought their diet candy, teas, starve and over exercise themselves aren’t working hard enough. It is saddening that on a day we expect women to raise each other up, this woman has decided to talk down to and even lecture other women just like the rest of society.

Thank you again Al for recognizing the struggles of everyday Americans, and the income disparity between the wealthy and the middle class and poor. I saw a video comment where a woman described her experience working for the Kardashians. She received a low wage which she could barely survive on, and was told she couldn’t work a job on the side. I don’t agree with Claudia and Q that people are angry with Kim just because the thoughtless advice is coming from her in particular. The fact is that the Kardashians and most wealthy entrepreneurs stand on the backs of their hard working, often exploited, employees who are putting in the “hard work” while people like Kim and her sisters take ALL the credit. There are people who are actually working two to three jobs just to keep their heads above water. Kim gets so much credit for getting her law license. I went to four years of college and three years of law school before I sat for the bar exam. Kim took advantage of a California law that allowed her to apprentice for a lawyer (One of her father’s friends I bet.), was tutored outside of a law class, and then sat for the California bar exam. Mrs hard work is great at avoiding true hard work and taking advantage of her wealth and connections to achieve a goal. Kim Kardashian and that whole clueless klan are the last persons I would listen to about hard work and achieving your goals. Claudia and Q need to step outside of their celebrity bubbles every once and a while and see how Americans are struggling in this country today, and it is NOT because they are unwilling to work. What Kim said was elitist and insensitive. 🤨🤨🤨🤨.

Nobody wants to hear this when they’re doing their best to make ends meet, during a pandemic, lay offs, business closures, schools opening and closing, family members getting sick/dying from the Rona, High gas prices and a war that has or could send loved ones to fight. A lot of people are realizing their worth and that the work they do can be done at home, relieving a lot of workplace stress, could lift the financial burden of childcare off a lot of families and so much more. The collective doesn’t need to hear a tone deaf message from a woman who’s claim to fame is her fathers name, lying on her back, stealing money, black women’s clothing ideas and image and taking the credit from black women lawyers when it came to freeing those prisoners and prison reform. She needs to have several seats and worry about what’s on her own plate and leave the rest of us alone.

Wow. Q and Claudia seem so out of touch when it comes to this topic. Why does Q continue to say that she could do or say anything and people would comment? That could be said of anyone. You have to identify the messenger along with the message. Are they serious? That is the foundation of a personal brand. The bottom line is that it was in poor taste and extremely insensitive for a WW who grew up wealthy to then speak to the millions of people who follow her and tell them that they should work and then make a judgment about people saying that they do not want to work these days. Now, if she had come from the bottom and was speaking from a perspective of overcoming poverty or adverse circumstances, it would have been received much better, but for someone who went from wealthy to billionaire she should have had that convo with her sisters or comrads and not posted it on social media. One's every thought is not to be shared with the masses. That seems like common sense so I am surprised at this commentary. Al, thank you for sharing some sense of reason.

I think that the emotions that people are feeling based on Kim's comment correlate to some of our experiences in the workplace. People work so hard to climb the corporate latter, to get promotions, and ostensibly to increase our income with the belief that once we reach a certain number (pay range) that our lives will be as we planned, and sometimes that just doesn't happen. The glass ceiling is a real thing no matter how much you sacrifice, especially if you're a woman in Corporate America. You can put in overtime, work weekends, and miss out on alot of life/family events, and you still won't get the raise/promotion that you were busting your butt so hard for. On the other hand, what I got from Kim's statement was that we live in the age of the influencer/entrepreneur/overnight social media star, and many young people don't want to work a regular job because they're fascinated with the idea of easy money. While those who know that if you're a content creator or do some sort of social media work that they're is alot of work (not to mention expenses for content tools) behind the scenes, many kids believe it's easy so they make being an influencer a goal. If you really think about what Kim said in the beginning, "Get off your ass", she's not speaking to us regular working people; she's speaking to those who don't work yet want everything handed to them; which as we know isn't realistic 🤔.

I think you letting your tiredness(much deserved) of Kanye skew your all of sudden change of heart of her. It's awkard. Love y'all....just seems you and Funky say different opinions across yall different outlets.

Sitting in board meetings is not work! Working one, two, three jobs to make ends meet that's work! Al this time I agree with you. Making sex tapes and rubbing elbows with the rich and famous is not real work dammit!

I don't deny that Kim works "hard" but her level of luxury far exceeds her work ethic. Few folks have jobs that fly them in private jets. Many of the "lazy" folks Kim spoke about are fans who helped her get richer.

Claudia, Kris carries the team on her back. If it wasn’t for Kris spinning that tape into a positive that family would’nt be who they are today and yes her growing up with a silver spoon has afforded her more opportunities of work coming to Kim. She can post a photo of tummy tea and get a million, her concept of work is skewed

If that’s her work, then that her work. Now we are judging the labor vrs just being inspired by the message.

@@BdewithShlinda what’s inspiring about a message from a person born into wealth becoming wealthier? I don’t care for billionaires and don’t wish to be like them but I’d rather here Rihanna’s sentiments on what it takes to become wealthy…it would be two different messages

@@destinylove1673 I guess I’m different. A message is a message only if there’s a place in my life for me to apply it. So what she had $. Work was still involved from her parents and so always shared how she worked growing up. I agree the work was different for us but work nonetheless. You may have grown up richer then me but if you gave me a positive message I would only receive that. Not focus on where you started but the message that will help on where I’m going

I just hate when people generalize. Saying words like nobody is often inaccurate and it ends up discrediting people.

I feel like The V magazine shouldn’t selected Kim to put out a strong message like that for Women’s Day. They should have selected someone who started from scratch on their own and made it and worked hard to be where she is at.

Yes, the statement has some "truths" to it. But, this is a statement you make in a private setting, not on social media. Which makes me think! She made the statement looking for attention. Kardashians love the drama!!!
