You brought up drummers at the very moment I was listening to go for a soda in the drumming on that hit is fantastic

I grew up 10 minutes from the Canadian border and 70 minutes from Montreal in Vermont. Guys like Kim, Aldo Nova were part of my high school years. Not all of America ignored the Canadian rock scene in the 1980's! Triumph, April Wine, Loverboy, RUSH will all have a special place in my life!

Thank you for having a stellar interview with Kim Mitchell on your channel. First discovered Kim Mitchell of Max Webster when they had opened for Rush & UFO at Winterland in San Francisco, California. September of '77. Had turned on many friends in the S.F. Bay Area to Max Webster back then. Have all of their LPs, most of Kim Mitchell's solo LPs. Travelled to lovely Canada (Montreal, Ottawa, Ontario, Toronto) back in the '90s. Beautiful country, people. Cheers.

Great questions and great interview. As a songwriter and guitarist, Kim and Max really shaped my style and outlook in life and music. Kim is legendary and one huge underrated guitarist. His guitar playing in Max was brilliant.

My 2nd date with my wife of 27 years was Kim Mitchell at Wonderland with Sass Jordon opening. Great show and really good set. The song Some Folks from Aural Fixation was our wedding song in 1996. Going to hopefully see him tonight at the CNE.

Want to know how I found out about Kim Mitchell and other Canadian artists? I grew up in NY and one day home from school I'm scanning channels on TV and the cable company had added MUCH MUSIC! MTV was more about telling the artists what to make rather than being happy they were given free content at the time. I saw all these bands I never heard of...my God, I was introduced to HAREM SCAREM with No Justice and lost my mind. I went to Virgin Megastore in NYC and cleaned out the import bin. Of course, I was unaware of the deal where a certain amount of time had to be dedicated to Canadian artists but worked out for the best. Sadly, things change...years later we got Much Music USA which was meh (They actually got a building in NYC across from Madison Square Garden) then into FUSE which was horrible save for the metal show Uranium.

I may have an answer as to why Max Webster didn't become famous in the USA like Rush did. I actually heard on the radio, a radio host said, "Why should we keep on playing new Canadian rock bands on US radio like what we did for Rush and Triumph. Those 2 bands became famous in USA because we kept on playing them on our radio channels. Why should we do this for other Canadian rock bands?" So I imagine Max Webster got no where near the radio air play that Triumph and Rush did, and thats probably why they never became famous in US.
