I carry my Kimber Custom TLE 2 TFS with Chips 10 rounders. Best damn gun I’ve owned. So reliable and accurate.

Appreciate the support man thank you! That Kimber sounds great suppressed! If you ever run an x300u let me know we could send ya out our Secondary SD holster for it! Unfortunately the TLR1 doesn’t have a good enough catch point to work with it.

I have sent my TLE-RL II back to Kimber two times; the last time, they rebuilt the pistol, and it now works reliably. It is a shame that Kimber Quality Control isn't higher, but their customer service is exceptional.

1911’a were made to shoot ball ammo. You shouldn’t even run hollow points til you get it broken in (500 rounds) with ball. After it’s loosened up, then* move to the defense ammo. Just my two cents from my own experience.

Where did you get the idea that you need to use a 20 lb recoil spring? Those are pretty much for used with 10 mm As a general rule you pair 1911 recoil Springs with the mainspring or some call it the hammer spring. They should be paired like this, 17 recoil and 19 hammer or 18 and 1/2 recoil and 23 hammer Anything else creates outside of the factory rated 16 + 22 creates an odd pogo-stick effect and can cause reliability issues
@FirearmFreedom
@FirearmFreedom Жыл бұрын
In this case I just grabbed the Wolfe extra power spring which actually seemed to increase reliability. I went off feel on the factory spring. Recoil with standard target ammo was much more pronounced than usual.

@@FirearmFreedom this is beyond disheartening considering i just 2 days ago put a kimber tle 2 none rl version in layaway because it was so beautiful & i didn't have a 45 acp 1911. All the 1's i have are 10mm & 1 357 sig & 1 .38 super. Hopefully they'll allow me to change my item. Thank u for letting me know that kimber is a turd. It's my fault i suppose as people warned me.

I owned my Kimber TLE/RL2 since 2009. I bought it used. No FTF or FTE issues at all. This has been a highly reliable and accurate pistol. I have the version that a lot people complained about too: The external extractor version. I asked Kimber to send me another extractor hook in case mine broke, and they sent me one for free. I ordered 25% over powered Wolff extractor springs they made specifically for this model too, and I think taking these measures made all the difference. I've never had an issue with the gun. I've put a little over 1k rounds through it, and I'm still using the original recoil spring, which I do clean and lube after every shooting session, I still haven't had to touch the new springs I bought for this years ago. The gun has been a joy to own.

@@dadoody as they should be. I'd be yelling it from the hilltops with a f@ckin 30 watt bull horn. A crappy gun that costs well over $1k is unacceptable. I love old school handguns. Revolvers to many to get into. As for auto's go i love sig 226 & 229's, 210's, 2022's, beretta 92 & 96, cz anything, browning hp or knock offs & obviously 1911's. That said I'm starting to see the appeal of glocks, sig p320's & 365's, s&w m&p's, Walter pdp's & ppq's, hk vp & usp series etc etc. Granted most of those polymer pistols might be cheap but at least the sh@t works out of the box. No games no calls to a service rep, no silly break in periods that connviently mask qc issues etc etc & around $500 - $750 out the door for most of the mentioned polymers (not withstanding some of the cz's, or hk's) provided you know how to shop & don't throw money at the 1st thing you see.

Loosen the extractor a bit. 1911 rounds slide into the extractor unlike polymer guns where the extractor jumps over the lip of the round. If the 1911 extractor is too tight it will hold onto the round and prevent the gun to go into battery and only the tip 😉…. Will go into the barrel. Polishing the ramp and throat wouldn’t be a bad idea either.

@@FirearmFreedom I can make any 1911 run. Some take more work than others. Usually kimbers it's a matter of tuning the extractor. Sometimes you need to file the slide stop a bit. But only if you see copper on it. Means the ammo is rubbing which will sometimes engage it and lock the slide back before the mag is empty. Kimbers are easy fixes. Just sucks Kimber can't do that themselves.

Are the springs 9mm vs 45 acp specific? I’ve never really ordered 1911 parts. I have the same pistol and although I haven’t had any issues, do like the idea of a smoother shooter.
@FirearmFreedom

Yes they are specific to the caliber generally but I believe both 9mm and 45 use the same spring. Could be wrong though you would want to look on wolfs website. Thanks for watching!

EXCESSIVE blowback on pistols is due MAINLY to cheap ammo and suppressor design. 1911s will have similar blowback to other pistols on the market if everything else is equal.

Put a thin layer of loctite on the grip screws and let it dry on the screws for 4-6 hrs even longer if you want) before you install them. It will be like there’s locknuts on them, I do this to my holsters & other fasteners I don’t want to walk out. Have never had a fastener walk itself out after doing this. I like my holsters tension screw to be family loose

@dadoody
@dadoody Жыл бұрын
My TLE/RL2 is nearly 20 years old. No rust issues, but I'm pretty good with maintenance. I clean it up after every range session, and I keep it lubed up with CLP or Corrosion X, whatever's on hand. I had one issue where the gunsmith I took it to change the sights for me, stuck it in a vice without protection and marred the surface of the slide, which annoyed me a lot, but I didn't complain since he charged me nothing for the install and gave me a 20% discount on the sites. I took it home, alcoholed all the oils off the areas that were scraped, and I used cold bluing on it all, and it blended in with the black oxide seamlessly. Oiled it all over, and the gun looks good as new. It's been years since, and still no rusting. So, these guns aren't Glocks, which are nitrocarburized along with being polymer, so they need a little more TLC, but as long as you keep them clean of corrosive salts and make sure they're oiled up when sitting for a long time, they will give you no issues. Issues come to people who are poor with maintenance on oiling or knowing when to change their springs.

I love my kimber same model as yours. I shoot better with it than my brothers operator. Now I had one big issue with it and took me lots of rounds and 2 gun smiths to find what it was. But once it was fixed it’s now flawless. Knowing and going through all this would I ever recommend or buy another kimber? Hell no.

I’ve had a TLE/II RL for nearly 20 years and absolutely love it. I run wolf springs and they definitely make a difference. I believe some failures are caused by a limp wrist. Crazy about how unpleasant it is to used suppressed.

If the goal is to slow down and delay rearward slide movement, a heavier mainspring or flat firing pin stop will work better than a heavier recoil spring.

Don’t use loctite on grip screws and don’t overtight them either! The 1911 grip bushings are delicate, you don’t want to damage them or you ll swear A LOT. Use o-rings or elastic washers (if they exist for 1911s) or soft rubber grip panels. I agree on the recoil spring. The extractor is the next thing to keep an eye on to improve reliability. Kimbers often come with a very stiff improperly tuned extractor
