I have the K6xs and it is awesome!!! Great trigger, light weight easy to carry IWB or in a pocket, handles +P ammo just fine plus it's a 6-shot, a must have if you like the j-frame size revolvers. My 5-shot snubbies have been sent to the safe.

Gunsmith, trainer, and author Grant Cunningham gave a fair amount of insight into the design of the K6 line. The first thing I noted when picking one up is that the back edge of the trigger is smooth-edged, one of Grant’s tips I would imagine. Thanks for the video.

Bought an "XS" when this video first aired. Delighted and not at all concerned about quality issues raised by other reviewers. Yankee Marshall posted today about the SADA version and there was such concern from a commenter who passed on buying one. There are reports of defective Kimber firing pins so I bought a TK Custom for a backup and will shoot at least 100, to 200 rounds before carrying the gun, and will keep the J frames for rotation. The SDR Diamondback is on the wish list.

I have the K6S. I carry on my belt so the weight doesn't bother me.The original grips are don't fill my hand well. I eventually got the overmolded rubber grips from Kimber and they really make a difference. i shot Magnums and the grps helped with the felt recoil.

Shooting two guns, especially two revolvers side by side, really tells you everythong you need to know as a shooter, how both feel and immediately your brain and mind get a sense of the difference. I rented a ruger lcr 22 LR to do side by side shooting with my 43c, like your comparison video a while back, and it made me know which was better choice for me right away. Both nice little light weight compact, concealed hammer, double action only revolvers aimed at carry, but the minor differences on paper are felt much more noticeably on the range. I MUCH prefer for the 43c for the extra hundred bucks

Just picked up one and I am going to use it as a backup for a bit. The man is right..us old schoolers used to carry .357s, .44 specials, 45's and even the 9mm S&W were heavy. As an instructor, I tell my students with simple to Gucci Glocks. There is a gun for everyone and everyone for a gun. Thanks Hickok.

I pocket carry everyday all day and really wanted a K6s but in the end I bought a S&W 360 PD because of the weight factor. I might consider also purchasing the K6xs but I do carry .357 Magnums in my revolver. 38 Special +P may do the job just as well but honestly the Magnums are not that bad unless of course you want to shoot 200 rounds through it at the range in one day.

I have both K6s (3" DCR KMB-3400011) & K6xs Both are great revolvers. Changed the grips on the K6S to the Kimber Control Core grips and those grips make the .357 loads much easier & accurate to shoot. I installed the Altai wood grips from the K6s on the K6xs and they work wonderfully for pocket carry. For anyone who is interested, I just purchased a Diamondback SDR and find the trigger to be almost as good as the Kimbers- Almost!

The steel one will pull your pants down more so you gotta cinch your belt a little tighter. So extra pressure on your waist.
@hickok45
@hickok45 Ай бұрын
Exactly. And THIS is one of the main reason to me that weight in a belt gun matters. It's not that we're weaklings and just cannot handle a few more ounces on our hips. I could tie a 5 or 10 pound piece of lead to my waist and carry it around all day if I wanted to; it's the effects of having to cinch up the belt tighter that bothers ME. In fact, it causes back pain after awhile, having my belt so tight.
@michaelschaffer9165
@michaelschaffer9165 Ай бұрын
@hickok45 A gun belt worn all day is uncomfortable. The tighter it is the more uncomfortable it is. Most people don't know that. I started with heavy guns. Had a 5 inch 1911 years ago. Then G23 then 19 later a 26. Progressed Shields, 365s and such. Now LCR every day. Lighter and lighter guns. Carrying a gun is not comfortable.

Speaking of revolvers, I'm hoping Mr. Hickok that you will do a video about the British Webley MkVI in .455 caliber. This is a classic military revolver of WW1 that also saw use in WW2 as well. Webley revolvers were used by the British military in various calibers & designations from 1887 to 1970. This is certainly a legendary & worthy design that deserves to be shot & reviewed by the great Hickok45. 🤠

Many years ago, I purchased a Kimber K6s and it was one of those that ended up with a broken firing-pin. I returned it to Kimber and they replaced the pin. Recently I bought a Kimber K6xs and loved it until after 120 rounds of +p (and only dry-firing it using snap-caps) you guessed it, the firing-pin broke. Now, I was worried about using my original K6s with that pin Kimber replaced. I found a website that makes upgraded replacement firing-pins for the Kimber K6s and purchased a replacement pin and had it installed by a gunsmith. I now have that gun working fine and stopped worrying on the reliability factor. Because of the broken pin in the K6xs, I will be returning to purchase another pin (I will not be returning the gun to Kimber) for the K6xs. I am not the only person with a broken firing-pin on my new K6xs, there is another firing-pin break with a K6xs talked about at Buds Guns in the “community” section. I feel safer buying a new well-made pin and paying a gunsmith to put it in than trust Kimber and their firing-pins.

I compared The K6Xs to a S&W 638 at the store the day I bought it. If you cut the base of the grip like Hitchcock45 did its basically the same height. The cylinder is .1" larger or less than 1/8" on the K6XS but you get 6 rounds. The length of the two are the same except the K6XS has a 2" barrel vs 1.875 and the Kimber has padding on the back of the grip. The boot grip is a lot fatter on the K6XS. But you can get a smaller one for like $36. In my soft armor pocket holster it fits nicely. Totally hidden. I am 5 11. The Kimber is ~ .8 ozs heavier but the 638 felt heavier? The trigger pull on the K6XS is about 9 lbs 12 ozs. My s&w 642 has an 11 1/2 lb pull but feels lighter than that. Hope this helps a little.

Exactly. "Words mean things", as a famous individual used to say. Even non-stainless steels are nearly always alloys, with small amounts of chromium, nickel, vanadium, cobalt etc. I suppose if someone made a cast iron frame it wouldn't be an alloy, but I wouldn't want to shoot it.

I don't know. Each time I look at those modern revolvers I have feeling that something is missing in them. But as a small, easy to conceal, nice option.

@@rpm2dayg648 You need to see them in person. The K6s is top draw polished and wood grips. The K6XS finish can easily hang with the 642. Also s&w does have some lookers but it will cost. I think Kimber will add two tones etc if these sell good. Whats not to like about a six shooter.

Pocket carry is a no-go, it seems, at least for men. not out of fear, but personally, most of my jeans cause a pocket carry gun to slam and jab into my frontal dangling anatomy... I will and do pelvis IWB but the whole "hanging to the left" being left handed, large metal anything in my front left pocket just rubs me wrong.

Hickok45, as you have pointed out here and in the past, you have long carried a S&W 642 and now this Kimber. You use an Alabama Pocket holster. I have a S&W 642 and Alabama Pocket Holster, which I also like a great deal. In this video you are using an outside the waist band (OWB) Alabama Pocket Holster "pancake/flapjack" model. I'm looking for a good quality, OWB, leather holster with a thumb break for the S&W 642. Do you have any recommendations. I realize it is difficult to find the thumb break style given that the S&W 642 has the internal hammer. But I figured it anybody knew where to find one it would be you. Thanks.

The only OWB holsters I've tried for the 642 are kydex (having run into the no-thumb-break issue you mentioned with leather ones), a Blackhawk Serpa (which I liked) and a Fobus that had no retention adjustment screw (the retention was way way too tight). 4 o'clock OWB usually printed too much when I bent over, and was not ideal for driving access while belted, so I finally settled on IWB at 2 o'clock with a leather Bianchi #100 Professional for about 35 bucks. Very comfortable.

I carry both the 640 or 442/642 most of the time so I have to decide which of those I'll buy. I don't pocket carry, it's always on my hip either iwb or owb depending on dress and weather. I'll have to look at both and decide which one is first. Thank you for the review. One other question though, when you carry the 642 do you carry plus p ammo and which one? Thank you!!!

I really wish S&W would restart production on the 640-1 (with no internal lock). I'd buy one today! The only way to get a new 640 with no lock is the performance center 640, which won't fit in some j-frame holsters, or the engraved 640.

The title should be "Which is a better pocket gun". But since when is life an either-or when it comes to gun choice? Why not both. I’d venture that everybody watching has multiple handguns. Here’s my experience: I have a S&W 360PD which weighs 11.8 oz’s and I use for pocket or ankle carry, and it’s perfect for those roles. It’s no fun practicing with, the 357’s are extremely snappy and most owners settle on carrying 38 +p. I also have a S&W 640 Pro which is all stainless and weighs 22 oz’s. It’s fun to practice with and can handle 125 gr 357’s fairly well. This gun is with me 75% of the time, sitting on my hip. Don’t even notice the weight. Sometimes heft is good. 99% of us do not shoot as well as Hickok. In my opinion, that’s when the extra weight is an advantage. Your follow up shots are better and you can actually carry the 125 gr 357 magnum as a self defense round. It’s all about having options. The lite guns are great pocket guns, but the heavier stainless versions feel better on the hip. If I could choose only one, I’d take the stainless because it’s more versatile. But I certainly enjoy having both options.

@@soundsnags2001 I would keep the K6S, just because it is heavier and all stainless. The K6XS is lighter and a little snappy when firing, not to mention, the K6S will also shoot 357 mag where the K6XS will only do 38 special & +p.
