I have a stupid question. What if his base is a little better and *lower* than in your example and he tries to step to the other side to get an armbar? Respectfully.

What is good coach? It looks like there's a far side armbar counter. What would one do to prevent the counter while executing the Kimura?

That's a good question. I have had people try and they always fall, giving me the top position...as long as you have secured the 2-on-1 that is! I hope that helps alleviate your concern! Let me know if there is any other ways I can help! :)

You have to beat them to, um, step three. If they can step over your head with the lead foot (in this case coach Ty’s left) and lock into your shoulder, you’ve got a tough battle. As with the entry, this one is all about timing!

It started in the bottom of sidemount and we find that due to techniques being taught in a vaccum some people have a hard time making the connection that they may transition through multiple positions using the "rules" of the first position they started in! Hope that helps!

People always catch me on the kimura trap when I'm transitioning to top side control and while I don't end up getting swept (cuz I straighten the arm and grab my thigh) it sucks because it prevents me from establishing full-on cross-side. This situation makes us spend a lot of the round stuck in that position. Is there a way to free your arm or threaten something else to keep advancing positions? or is the only option to be quick to react to the arm getting grabbed? -Newbie white belt

The Kimura and americana are both types of "entanglements". That means if they attack you with it, it can also be used to attack them. I like to let them grab and get deep and then use a reverse version of their attack like ... kzbin.info/www/bejne/a5KnhGBoftNjY5o
