You do actually have a lot of dads Nick, all us old boys would gladly take you in as a step son as you have a heart of gold young man. Outstanding effort but this is how we should treat our seniors. There would be lot's of very unscrupulous tradesmen who would have ripped that woman off. Good luck with the fridge you nutter, luv ya.

Good to see that there are people out there who care, you've done an amazing job! Just a little tip though, not sure if you did this but it's a good idea to wrap something around the old fridge/freezer when left outside so kids can't open them and end up getting themselves stuck inside.

The reason you have to leave a fridge freezer upright for a period if it has been put on its side or back is due to the fact that the oil in the compressor will run into the condenser and or evaporator - meaning their would not be enough oil in the compressor. By standing it upright allows time for the oil to slowly run back down to the compressor.

Well done Nick proves you are a gent. I’d be the same sadly there not enough of us out there. My dad went out to a job and had do a little job charged her 50 quid she then opened a draw stacked full of 50 and proceeded to count the 50 individually to 50 to give to my dad. He took 50 and asked for her kid’s number and talked to her son in which he was not happy a lad in his mother house. After explaining what happened he got a call a week later to say his mother is getting care as she has alzheimer's and thanks for not taking advantage as there was a serious amount of money found in draws

Well done St Nick... Many years ago , when I worked at a white goods store the reason for not laying down as the Oil Runs out of the compressor, so you have to leave it long enough upright to drip back in.. never actually knew if it was true or just a think "we always do that" because some fridge from 1950 needed it so thats what everyone does now........

Nice one Nick thats very kind of you. I used AO to get rid of my mums old Fridge Freezer a couple of years back as it was cheaper then the council and it doesnt matter if you didnt buy a new one from them. It cost me £20 back then but looks like its £30 now. Still maybe a better option for some people as they also do weekend collections.
@TestGearJunkie.7 ай бұрын
As a council tenant we get 3 or 4 (can't remember exactly) free collections a year, although haven't had to use it for a few years now, last time was when we got rid of an old sofa. When we bought our current fridge/freezer from Currys they took the old one away when they delivered it, although it did cost a few quid extra. They also swore and cussed when we asked them to reverse the doors 🤣
@imark77777777 ай бұрын
As somebody who's loosely that familiar with HVAC videos and have been through the hassle of moving refrigerators. What happens is the oil in the refrigerant can go into other parts of the system and it has to sit upright for it to settle back down into the bottom Reservoir around/in the compressor.

Hi Nick, I have a lovely lady whom is unfortunately terminally I’ll, I currently work for an independent computer company, I went to see this lady her px broke, I couldn’t fix it, but I managed to find one that was being chucked away by another customer, I got some parts and made a good one out of others for her, then I’m out to her next week, the lady in question, like your is only her and her husband are both poorly etc. she is so kind and has done things for others in the past so I’m making it my mission to try and get her up and running online again as asap (I’ve already lent her a laptop to tide her over whilst I sort a pc for her) and I’m not bothered how much it’s cost (not masses I must add) but it’s kind to be kind and help people when in need. She’s a lovely lady and she needs help and if I can make sure she has what she needs (even a pint of milk) then that will make her life that little bit easier. God bless Nick great work as always. I’m also a great believer in what goes around comes around. Take care of you and your family. All the best.

The upright thing is the oil in the compressor - if you leave it sat on its side the oil can run down the pipework into the coils, if you then start the compressor it'll A: Have little lubrication, and B: be trying to push oil rather than gas through tiny tubing and orifices it's not meant to go down. Not a happy scenario. Shame they charge you to dispose of household goods up there - my local sites will all take fridges and freezers free. Mind, if you turn up in a van or with a trailer you'll need to fill in paperwork saying it's personal not trade waste. Good man, though. One day it'll be us old and needing help.
