Changes between 3 aspect ratios depending on the time period. Too many black bars and it made it really ugly and kind of ruined it for me.

I don't know why Gone Girl took Nick by surprise. He's a film buff (or would like to think so), so he should know that a Fincher film would be great and something to be anticipated. Also Gillian Flynn was the only writer on the script. Not one of. Also Nick's problems with Interstellar are so silly. Cooper was an astronaut and a pilot for many years. What did he do in space that was so unbelievable that he couldn't have done? Nick is quite a movie snob though so I'm not surprised he has problems with well-received films.

Without seeing Birdman yet, I choose The Grand Budapest Hotel as my movie of 2014. After the first 5 minutes, I was completely hooked, and enjoyed every second of that roller coaster of emotions. Not a fan of horror films, but I really liked The Babadook.
@BBR139410 жыл бұрын
The best film of 2014 for me was The Grand Budapest. So refreshing, zany, eccentric, funny, and just plain entertaining. Boyhood, Whiplash, Guardians of the Galaxy, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Edge of Tomorrow, Gone Girl, Interstellar, How to Train Your Dragon 2, The LEGO Movie, Captain America, X-Men, and Nightcrawler, among other films, were absolutely fantastic. Shoutout to The Babadook, Godzilla, Foxcatcher, and The Raid 2 for being really good as well. *Haven't seen Birdman or Selma yet, but I'm hoping to watch them before Oscar night. 😃

Birdman was my favorite movie of 2014. It is just incredible in every way; incredible in direction, cinematography, music, acting... every thing. Nightcrawler was really good, Gyllenhaal is the highlight of that movie. Best acting of the year, at least I think so. Gone Girl was also awesome. I'll never forget unravelling the story along with Ben Affleck's character. The twists were awesome. I really need to see Grand Budapest Hotel. I've heard nothing but great things.

I am under the impression that when Leonardo blew off explaining how the firm was making its illegal gains in Wolf of Wall Street, it was a wink to Boiler Room where the scam was revealed. Both movies were based on the same source material (Jordan Belfort, Stratton Oakmont), just told from a different perspective.

Grand Budapest is the best movie of 2014 easily. It was released limited in March but I saw it three times in theaters.

Funny story about that Wolf of Wall Street; putting Coke in the woman's butt scene... I worked at a cinema at the time and the manager responsible for the digital projection schedule made a mistake and basically that film came on in a screen that was scheduled to be Frozen. Let's just say there were a lot of unhappy parents.

@rastazorastra177210 жыл бұрын
Tim Gettys: To answer your question about Gone Girl ending - "what would you rather?". In the easiest way possible: THE LEGIT ENDING of the book Gone Girl in which this is adapted from. Written by the same author. Gillian Flynn changed the film ending so readers of her books wouldn't feel like they knew what would happen . She changed it up so nobody knew. The book ending is ALOT better and it would of made the movie ALOT better to the point of Oscar contention. Proves once again. Books > Adapted Movie. So far only 2 things to come close to challenge that philosophy is Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones.... and maybe. Maybe it's arguable that Watchmen was on par with Watchmen novel.
@BeauAgrawal10 жыл бұрын
dont totally agree with that concept, but the book ending was definitely better
@RicoSeattle10 жыл бұрын
What happened in the book ending? What did they change?
@CLunz1710 жыл бұрын
The graphic novel watchmen is a lot better than the movie and if you think its arguably on par you need to reread the book. Rita Hayworth and Shawshank redemption was the novella the shawshank redemption was based on and that's the one book I've read where the movie is better. The novel had complicated backstory on how Andy got the money and tommy just left the prison. Also I think to kill a mockingbird is on par with book mainly due to Gregory Peck's amazing performance
@furdiebant10 жыл бұрын
The Oscars are incredibly frustrating because to win your film needs to be feel-good or teach an important historical lesson. Hence tons of snubs in my eyes, most recently Di Caprio for Wolf of Wall Street
