This feels just like when we discovered what Suicide Squad’s format was. Co-op and an uninspired mission structure from a team that typically produces critically successful single player games. As soon as this was announced I thought “oh, NO” when it showed “four player co-op”. Just give us a crafted single player experience.

That's why I'm a fan of games. I bought the PS5 and the Xbox Series X. On the Xbox I had a lot of fun recently with Hi-Fi Rush. There are games that I prefer to play on the XSX, but AAA single-player games, it's an area that Xbox has had problems with for a long time.

Arkane… releasing masterpieces like Dishonored, Prey, Deathloop.. so heartbreaking to hear it didn’t land. Not the best look for Xbox to buy an established studio that critics love and release something unfulfilling.

The issues like AI, level design, always online and teammates don’t carry over completed mission data all speaks to fundamental problems built into the dna of this game. Seeing as how the director said they were also working on a PS version before Microsoft purchased them, you would think working on 1 system less would actually help them focus more.

Here is the deal and I know they read these but KindaFunny has an identity crisis where they don't want to alienate their relationships and are hedging there bets. @@teddyholiday8038 They didn't rush it at all. Arkane Austin hasn't released a game since Prey in 2017. That's the game they've been working on since 2018, we are in 2023 now. At some point, you have to accept that a project didn't come together well enough and release it to recoup some of the costs. More delays would not significantly alter the flawed game pillar designs the game suffers from.

I've unlocked the first firehouse on Series X, now I'm switching to PC. The lack of detail (accidental) on some objects was surprising. As well, ADS behind cover just leaves you staring at the cover; Deathloop (and I believe another Arkane game) intelligently let you peek over and around the cover.

It’s because everyone’s paying a little fee for game pass and not buying games anymore. There’s a reason PlayStation gets AAA polished games like God of War, Uncharted, Final Fantasy etc that people pay money for. Nintendo is about to release Zelda.. a game that will blow away anything Xbox has released in years. FUCKING NINTENDO. Xbox games are developed for gamepass. It’s that simple.

Game pass is something I BARELY ever use even tho I pay for it. Most titles are Indy garbage or games I played YEARS ago. Like I already own Bethesda's older titles on PC, no need to play again on Xbox. I'm also likely to unsubscribe from it after this. I'm a HUGE fan of Arkane, but this game does not feel like something they understood how to make in their design philosophy

Xbox started so promising but as per usual PlayStation started to eat up that market share. It’s about managing your studios and PlayStation just do that exceptionally well. Money can buy studios but doesn’t motivate creative developers. It’s a big problem for Xbox right now.

Because Xbox didn't need to make any decisions on their own like they do now. It's not a coincidence that both the Halo and Gears franchises have stagnated and, let's be honest, have died under Xbox's leadership. They rode off of the coat-tails of others either shooting themselves in the foot (Sony) or 3rd party companies coming up with great games and then buying the exclusivity (BioShock, Mass Effect, Gears, GTA IV: EFLC etc).

How the hell did this happen with Arkane, especially with Harvey Smith helming it? Since it was in development before the Microsoft acquisition of Bethesda...is it possible that Bethesda's pre-acquisition emphasis of sales, microtransaction escalation, etc obviously shown by Fallout 76 & the horrendous Wolfenstein Youngblood (which Arkane assisted on) diseased Arkane's evolution into developing such an uncharacteristic Multiplayer Looter-Shooter for mass appeal purposes? Hopefully, moving forward Microsoft overseeing Bethesda's studio will allow Arkane to develop in a passion-centric manner, & not, on a profit-purposeful 'Fallout 76' railroad.

This is just another example of Microsoft buying studios and then immediately setting them up to fail. Both Microsoft and EA excel at ruining the hard earned reputations of the studios they buy, when EA bought Bioware they were one of the most beloved studios in the world and we've all seen how that's gone (cough-Andromeda cough-Anthem), hopefully Arcane and Bethesda don't suffer similar fates and become a shells of their former selves.

I feel like the shift from a “always online” game to one that could be played offline really hurt the direction of the game and has lead to a lot of the issues of multiplayer connectivity and pop-ins. If a game wants to be always online Microsoft needs to commit to it. Yes, some will be upset but that’s the price of what they want to build. The guys keep equating the game to far cry and fallout but to me it sounds like they are describing Borderlands. Without the comedy, multiplayer stability/quest progression, storytelling, quest variation etc.

The artistic direction of it hooked me instantly and the gunplay with the abilities keep me playing with my brothers, that being said repetitive and boring missions are a given in games similar to redfall, the fun is what you make of it during those missions.

I own both an Xbox series x and a ps5, PlayStation is doing well with its cadence of great games and Xbox just seems to struggle with first party releases, I hope they can start to do better but man is this disappointing. I’ve played redfall quite a bit now and it is so far away from how Arkane games feel and play, I wonder if the team didn’t have any real passion for the title and have pushed it out asap to start work on something else 🤷‍♂️ starfield HAS to hit hard and honestly I’m skeptical now

When this game was announced I felt like you could slap any studio on this and I would believe it wasn’t Arkane. Which Arkane fan wants a game like this? This game strikes me as a game that they made to achieve more mainstream success because their games wearn’t hitting, and then deathloop came out and hit and they were like damn, we didn’t need to make this.

“Nothing exciting to find” speaks to real issues with the DNA of this game. I think people looking to blame Microsoft might miss the point here. This was already being worked on before Microsoft purchase, as evident by the cancelled PS version. But focusing on one console and getting delayed both didn’t help this game. Arcane and these other developers (343 with Halo Infinite, Rocksteady and Suicide Squad, BioWare and Anthem, Godfall, Outriders, etc etc) all need to give up on these open world shooters and focus on story and gameplay. It’s concerning that even Sony after the Bungie purchase has mentioned how many open world mmos they want to release in the next couple years. None of these companies are getting the message.

I have owned consoles since Atari 2600, min 1 a generation and some all a generation. The Xbox One was the first console I was disappointed owning, I feel like the Series S/X is starting to become a disappointing purchase too. The console itself has good features and Game Pass is saving it at the moment but we are 2 years into the console generation and they still haven't really delivered on games. They purchased all those studios and we are still waiting for games.

I was hoping someone would bring up controls. I played about 15 minutes of Redfall and couldn’t believe how badly it controls. Stiff, floaty, and just awful. Gosh I was so hoping this would be a win for Xbox.

I find textures that take several seconds to load in on Series X quite offensive. I find a modern game looking like it's rendered at sub-900P but is locked to 30fps offensive. I found a lengthy list of things to be offended by while playing a game I sorta-kinda got for free*, and that's really sad. * excluding monthly Game Pass Ultimate subscription fee

I got my friends into xbox for halo infinite and it’s just embarrassing that even though that was decently fun, nothing has come out since then. So I have one forza friend that I play with but that’s the only reason to have an xbox… which is something I only play 30 hours each time a new Forza comes out

It's entirely possible that my take is misinformed (I don't know much about if there was team-turnover or how Arkane operates) but you can't convince me that anybody who worked on some past Arkane hits was thrilled to make this game. It's such a huge departure in style and philosophy from everything they've done. Smacks of when nearly every single-player game had to have a weird multiplayer tacked on. Really, really disappointing and the worst kind of bummer: the trainwreck you can see from a mile away.

Your right they would of never green lit Game Pass. Microsoft thought they had the cheat code to gamers hearts and minds by throwing money at it. Sony cares about making good games because they need people to spend $70 on every single game. Xbox doesn’t, that’s everything.

Looks like XBox are desperate for the Activision deal, unfortunately that could be delayed a long time, even if it goes through. Game Pass is the only good thing and that's not a console seller. I bet Big Phil will be having some tough meetings with the Microsoft heirachy. If Starfield flops, do wr think Phil's job could be on the line?

This has been my fear for a while now. I worry (not arguing it's the case) MS is going the route of Netflix with quantity over quality. The more releases stack up like this, the more worried I am it's becoming true. Say what you will with fanboy flags aside, but Phil Spencer is at least a gamer guy. If this doesn't turn around, I fear MS replaces him with a numbers/ suit person and s/he prioritizes the value (consumer) and profit (MS) disposition by shortening development time to get out more games and quality takes another hit in the name of monthly game subscription value. The nightmare is that happens with the Activision deal falling through, so they look to buy someone smaller like 2K games, and then MS ruins GTA and Red Dead.

I'm so tired of these mediocre games from Xbox, I as many have been more than patient. The only decent game they have had this Gen is Forza horizon5. Last gen was a mess and quite frankly have had enough.

I think older gamers with more experience with the range of games and the evolution of games have one view (2/5) ...and the younger (Gen Z) players think the game is fine... unremarkable, but acceptable. I think that it really boils down to perspective.

I don’t understand one thing, the preview video was very positive, everyone was more positive about the game and looking forward to it, now its out the review is thats it basically sucks…? How could you be excited for it when you played it last and now it’s totally rubbish? surely you would of seen or felt that in the preview no? Just hope nobody preordered it off the preview and then found out how bad it was

Either Microsoft needs to take a good long look at the way these studios are being managed and the quality of games coming out or Microsoft is okay with mediocre to okay games being released because it is on Game Pass. I've lost any excitement for Starfield and fully expect a mediocre experience.
