No one sees this but I have to say it. There is so much wrong with KF’s Game of the Year system! There is a reason why games like Elden Ring or Metaphor would never win GOTY in KF. There are 8 voters; if all put a good game that’s not game of the year caliber in their mid #5 spot, it gets 48 points. On other hand if, a unique but masterpiece gets #1 for half (4) of the voters but is not even played by the other half, it only gets 40 points and loses to that mid game! So Metroidvenias, Souls-likes and multiplayers never get chosen because at least three of the judges would never play them!

There is a reason why generally in sports or in legit rankings #1 to #3 get exponentially more points than #4 to #10. As a recommendation, do what F1 does, and recalculate GoTY of the past few years and compare it to your current system. In the correct system #1 gets 25 points, #2 gets 18, and positions 3-10 get 15, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2 and 1, respectively.

The reception of Dragon Age is perplexing, as it seems to have garnered a cult following despite its generic nature. While Dragon Age is not without its merits, it is undeniable that there are numerous superior games available. Examples include Black Myth, Helldivers, Silent Hill 2, Palworld, Dragons Dogma, Stellar Blade, Warhammer, Concord, and Dragon Quest 3 Remastered. The absence of recognition for these exceptional titles is a glaring oversight.

One night, I downloaded Balatro on my tablet through nefarious means, and played it for about two hours straight. The next day at work, I wanted to play more, so I bought it on my phone. I then bought it on PC. Balatro isn't my game of the year, but it is definitely a runner-up and the biggest surprise for me this year.

It’s not OLED. For two reasons one if you made that the only product you released without a 2Q method, you instantly raise the price way too much. You would be willing to pay that price, but there are a lot of parents with two children who do not want to buy two systems for over $400 each. Next, let’s assume you did somehow get them to go OLED and have a 2SKU method that makes it too expensive to produce. That means you have to keep both in stock and that’s very difficult to do when you’re just launching a platform. Which one will the market prefer that puts more demand on you and suppliers so you try to avoid that

Just for the Balatro discussion where Bless said it might be the best 52 deck of card game. Not debating that but if people wanted to know other good card games with friends using a deck of cards, try some Italian games like Briscola or Scopa. There are good videos on KZbin showing you how to play.

Fell off Veilguard hard. The quality of the writing just stood out so much when compared to the other RPGs that came out that year. Kind of worried for the new Mass Effect if this is what we got.

I think the developers hinted that ME will have a different tone and style from Veilgaurd. They seem aware they need it to be more mature. That should be reflected in the quality of writing.

@@David-uc6sg if you played it and it came out this year you can just put it on your list. If a bunch of them independently from each other all put it on their list, then it just speaks to how much it SHOULD be considered for game of the year when it's just a "Well technically" that stands in the way of counting it. If you'd already played Elden Ring two years ago there was no barrier of entry for the game that essentially felt like a 1.5 sequel. It would be weird to decide that you can't put the game that took all your time and mindspace onto the list because other people who aren't in your position can't play it as easily as you did.

@realrobrose Erdtree is an addition to a game that was released in 2022, not 2024, and Hades didn't release this year. Give them their flowers on the Smileys since there was a "best dlc" and a "best early access" categories. Goty should be for the best, full released games of the year.

The top 10 is just taking all of their top 10s and the ones that appear the most get the most points. So a game that's all of their #5s is gonna be highlighted while the games thats just one of their #1s might not make it.
