Welcome back to another Peak District hike! In this weeks video I am returning to Kinder Scout for a hike up to Kinder Low via Jacob's Ladder.
Here is a link to OS Maps of a very similar route I plotted before doing the walk. Please only use this as a guideline and properly plan your own route :)

We chose this route for our first time up Kinder Scout today! Was lots of fun scrambling down instead of up! (We were the only people doing it that direction too!). We parked at Barber Booth and must say that the walk back to the car park is not for the feint hearted especially after an already long hike!

Great stuff as usual Alex, my "home" NP as well being a South West Sheffield boy, though living a bit further away now in North Notts. I love your "Another beautiful day in the Peak District National Park" intros and that goes through my head every time I'm out there.

Another good video Alex - we are looking at getting back to the peak district this month (April). I think my channel needs some videos outside of Lincolnshire. I'm thinking throw the drone down Winnats Pass before getting some nice cinematics of Mam Tor and Derwent!

Great video Alex! Just love that route, though I did it in reverse. Hoping to do a hike in the area in a few days time with a mate. We are doing Rushup Edge which is less busy than Mam Tor - which I did a week ago, and it gives fantastic views of the Edale Valley. We plan to get coffee in Edale before climbing up to Hollins Cross then descend to Castleton and then up over the hill via Treak Cliff Cavern to join the old road and back to the NT car park below Mam Tor. I live just a half hours drive from the Peak District and there is no finer place in my estimation! 😀

Thank you Peter!! That sounds like an awesome route!! I’m a big fan of Rushup Edge also, the difference in footfall up there compared to Mam Tor is crazy yet you still get stunning views. One of my favourite cafes is in Edale, called the Penny Pot, amazing cake!! Hope you had a great walk and thanks for the support as always 😊👍

Great video. I have walked up Winnats Pass previously and along The Great Ridge but that's the extent of my Peak District experience up to now as I always tend to gravitate towards the Lakes. However, your Peak District videos are really inspiring me to prioritise getting back to the Peak District asap so thank you. I look forward to more of your Kinder videos 😊

Super video, Alex. Really like the idea of your mini series. I've still got so much to explore in the Peak District and especially the Kinder Scout plateau, so would really appreciate seeing some of your recommended routes, especially the lesser known stuff. A real inspiration to explore further and get to know a new area.

Nice video again Alex. Like you i too have an affinity with Kinder Scout. I found out what those Spike things are for now and i found another 2 plus a Plastic one with a hallow centre a couple of weeks ago and also i bumped into 2 old men that said they are volunteering for National Trust and sawing down those Miniature Pine trees ....That seems such a shame to me and wrong on many levels but they said that they take water from the moss which again doesnt seem right . I hope they are correct and it's not yet another example of Man thinking he knows better than nature. Dont for get your Kinder Eggs this weekend ;)

Super good video Alex! You are so right that Kinder can get clagged out at the drop of a hat, it’s very unpredictable! The sun did turn out for you though, and wasn’t it beautiful! I was so excited to hear of your plans to explore many of the routes onto Kinder, I remember we chatted about that before and there are so many potential routes. I am actually up in Hayfield for a week from 4th April and I have been eyeing up The Cloughs just to the East of Jacobs Ladder. The largest Clough pops up near Pym Chair and looks like an achievable route. We shall see. If not ,then Blackden Brook has been on the list as a route to ascend to the plateau for far too long. I did Nether Red Brook last year and it’s a fine scramble, highly recommended. I went up William Clough and walked along the base of the northern Edge until I got to it. I noticed that the Clough just West of Nether Red also looked like a very decent scrambling route. I cannot wait!

Thank you so much Greg!! I got extremely lucky with the second half, thought the clag was there to stay once it rolled in. Yes I’m finally going to explore Kinder properly this year, Blackden Brook and Red Brook are high on the list, I just need this rain to calm down a little, never seen it so wet up here at the moment! Sounds like you’ve got some awesome plans for your trip! My fingers are crossed that sun is shining on your Kinder walks! Look forward to seeing some pics of your adventures 😊

Great video Alex, thanks for posting. I've only been up onto Kinder Scout once but did the opposite route to you, going up Grindsbrook Clough, across the top, then down Jacobs Ladder. We had similar weather to you then, claggy with no views! I'd love to go up onto Kinder again and explore more so will be interested to see other routes up there in your future videos. 😊

@@alexcripps.outdoors thanks for reply 👊🏼 . We had heavy rain the night before, I kept any eye on the weather forecast and decided to risk it and travel up from Birmingham. The weather changed and sun ☀️ came out , but due to the rain night before the ground was saturated hence the paths were like mini rivers. But the views were amazing, could see Manchester skyline from kinder low. 😎

Thank you Darren!! Unfortunately if you go anywhere in the Peaks at the moment the boots are going to be caked in mud, I can’t believe how bad the rain and mud has been this year 😂 however, Nikwax do a cleaning gel that’s really good for getting a lot of the dirt out, give them a good scrub at outside tap with a soft brush and the gel, they’ll look brand new! 😊👍
