The only books kobo doesn’t have are the by authors that have published through amazon so those books can only be sold there. All other authors that can sell everywhere are on kobo and other ebook stores

There are SO many books I have bought on Kindle that are not available on Kobo, unfortunately!

I read a lot of international authors, especially korean and japanese authors. Are they in there? Because honestly most people read romance and romantasy these days, so I don't trust people when they say most probably they have most books in there

I'm a Kindle guy and I've always used the amazon bookstore and I ended up buying both devices: love them both. 🤩 It's nice to discover the Kobo would and NOT give all my hard earned money to amazon.

Thank you for actually showing how easy it is to use Overdrive on the Libra! I've watched other comparison videos and they mention the Overdrive integration briefly, but don't actually demonstrate. I'm finally thinking of upgrading from my 10-year-old basic Kindle, and for the most part I've been leaning towards the Colorsoft, but that demo turned my head for sure. *I don't need both I don't need both I don't need both*
@AmbersBookNook6 күн бұрын
Of course and thank you for watching!! I think I’m going to go with the Colorsoft just because I don’t really need to annotate(even though I like too I just spend more time doing it) and I read a lot of dark romance that are only on kindle and I’m just too lazy to transfer at the end of the day😂 I also like the screen more on the Colorsoft. I’ve been trying to convince myself I don’t need both for like 2 weeks now😂
@AnnaReed426 күн бұрын
@AmbersBookNook yeah the contrast of the Colorsoft looks so much better, which is one of the big reasons I'm leaning that direction. And I doubt I'd use the pen, even though I am a sucker for a stylus.

In Canada the benefit to Kobo ecosystem is that Kobo seamlessly links to Overdrive/Libby enabling borrowing from your public library. Amazon has chosen to disable Bluetooth making audiobooks impossible to use. I love the buttons on the Kobo, especially when the upper button is set to page advance. I also appreciate how easy it is to adjust brightness by sliding your finger up and down the left side of the screen, no extra steps required. I have both the Kobo Libre Colour and a Kindle Paperwhite Signature. The Kindle stays in the drawer.
@AmbersBookNook10 күн бұрын
Yes I have heard that in a lot of countries outside of the US they have disabled Bluetooth and don’t allow you to send your library books to the kindle and that is so dumb to me, it makes kobo that much more appealing than Amazon! I just feel like kobo actually had people who use these type of devices/ listened to user feedback to make these devices where it feels like kindle tries to sound like it’s a better device by throwing in random things that are more “premium” that we don’t really want and then charge a ton for it.

I love my kobo Libra color. I don’t notice any yellow on mine at all. The stylus is great and I love interacting with my books. I have both devices and love them both for different reasons.

Great video! It's hard to choose. I guess eventually I'll buy both. But for now I'll start with the Kobo because I want to try reading with buttons.
@AmbersBookNook12 күн бұрын
Thank you! I’m still having a hard time choosing, I like the screen better on the kindle but idk if that outweighs having the bottoms and overdrive directly on the device for me. The buttons are an amazing feature though!!

On the kobo, I love the auto rotation, the buttons, the cases are amazingly designed and feel so nice. It’s my winner.

Yes I love them so much, the oasis was my favorite kindle for that reason and I’m sad Amazon decided to discontinue that

Best comparison yet! Liked and subscribed. I am probably going to return my Colorsoft. It isn't bad per se but I am not a fan of the color layer screen door effect. My 2018 oasis is much more crisp with text. I might just get the Paperwhite or wait for an update on the Kobo Sage.
@AmbersBookNook8 күн бұрын
Thank you so much! Yeah I really enjoy highlighting in different colors so that’s the only thing that makes me want the colored screen but I definitely appreciate the clarity that you get with the B&W screens

I make use of the ability to synch between my different size kindles every day and also with audible so I’m not switching. However the kobo does sound great too especially the annotation and overdrive integration. I can see why people love theirs. A lot of manga is black and white by the way. Great balanced review, subscribed!

Thank you for doing an unbiased comparassion. I've seen a lot of people praising the kobo without being completely honest about the cons. Yes, we all hate amazon...but I read a lot of indie authors and many international authors that I'm sure many of the books I want won't be on kobo......because a lot of people that are praising kobo are boycotting amazon, so it will be stupid to buy the books on amazon just to transfer them to kobo later, amazon will end up benefit from it anyway.
@AmbersBookNook2 күн бұрын
Thank you for watching! Yes I agree, I’ve seen the same thing and that’s a huge reason I got it initially. I do really like the kobo but for my reading preferences I can’t bring myself to make the full switch. I also would love to get out of the amazon ecosystem but like you said they are still going to benefit from me buying those books to transfer anyway. I’m hoping that as the kobo becomes more popular more of the indie authors are able to also publish on multiple platforms, I understand why they do it though because amazon makes it easier to get their name out there and people to read through Kindle Unlimited. I think both devices have equal pros and cons and it really depends on your reading preferences that will make or break how each person feels about the devices.
@sayuriakirayuu79442 күн бұрын
@AmbersBookNook i'm happy with my paperwhite and it wouldn't be financially smart for me to switch to another system at the moment. I do like the bottoms on the kobo and looks pretty, but I don't really care about the coloured version for now and when it comes to reading preferences I think the kindle looks better. I will keep an eye on the kobo in the future. Hopefully we can get out of the amazon ecosystem because it harms small book stores too
@MEO-iq1kr3 күн бұрын
When both screens are adjusted properly, I prefer the Kobo screen--but not by much. Having integrated Overdrive/Libby and Pocket (for articles found on the web and then saved to the Kobo) coupled with the ability to read more ebook formats is more useful to me. I also like the buttons, the power button on the back and the side charging port. The only thing I prefer with Amazon is the broader library, but most of that exists because of Amazon-published authors. And for B&W only readers, I prefer the 8" screen to 7".
@AmbersBookNook2 күн бұрын
Yes I agree, those features are what makes the kobo such a great device! I think the type of books people read are going to be what makes or breaks the ecosystem that works better for each person, I’m hoping that as the kobo becomes more popular a lot of indie authors feel more comfortable to publish on the other platforms

After 14 years of kindle it's all kobo for me. I'm in the UK & amazon don't allow library borrowing outside the USA. As I got my libra colour for £170 I'm shocked that the coloursoft costs £100 more for far less features.
@AmbersBookNook10 күн бұрын
That’s kind of where I’m at, I’m still using them to try and decide but I am heavily leaning towards the kobo as I’m realizing more of the books I’m interested in are actually in the kobo store where before I thought most of the KU books weren’t, I just am not a fan of how expensive amazon makes things compared to other companies

Great review! Very through. :) I've had the Paperwhite Signature Edition for a couple of years, and I just got the Kobo Libra Colour. What really tipped the scales for me to the Kobo was the pen support. For a couple of years now, I've wanted a pen-enabled device to write notes on. Not just on books, but regular notes (e.g., shopping lists, to-do lists, etc.) The Kobo really does that well, once you get past the "writing on glass" feeling. And I find it hard for Amazon to justify the $280 price tag when it doesn't have pen support and is essentially using the same Kaleido 3 technology as the Kobo (albeit with an extra filter). From the comparisons I've seen, the Colorsoft *does* have the more saturated screen, but that comes at the expense of some detail. (I don't think you'd notice it just reading books, but I've seen some comparisons reading comics, and it's noticeable if you compare them side by side.) I just don't think the screen is *that* much better to justify the price, especially when you consider that you can get a pen for about $30. I'm > 50, so I don't really notice a screen door effect with my eyes. :) You mention the Metapen M2. The Metapen M1 also works. That's the one I have. I've paused my subscription to Kindle Unlimited. I've used it to read some things over the years, but I don't think I'd miss it much. (I also have a couple of things I self-published under KU, but I'm thinking of withdrawing them from that program. It would be dumb to not have my own stuff in the Kobo Store now that I have a Kobo. :)) And I'm with you on the pronunciation of Calibre. I've heard it both ways. :) One thing I wanted to mention that I haven't seen any reviewers bring up: The Kobo Libra Colour doesn't limit your Bluetooth to only using headphones. You can connect a Bluetooth keyboard if you want to. That's a feature I've been looking for for a long time on Kindle, because I don't like using the onscreen keyboard. Connecting a Bluetooth keyboard to the Kobo, you can add a note to a book much more easily than using the onscreen keyboard. (I kind of wish Kobo would let you use the stylus for those notes, too, but the keyboard is faster than using a stylus, anyway.)
@AmbersBookNook8 күн бұрын
Yes I absolutely love the pen support! That and the overdrive integration are what sell me the most with kobo!! That’s good to know that the M1 also works as I know that one’s a little cheaper! Oo I’ve never thought to use a Bluetooth keyboard but that is awesome that you can do that with the kobo😄

I agree, that biggest thing for me with comparing these two is that they are both the more “premium” options from the company since kindle got rid of their oasis and I know a lot of people really want that device upgraded rather than discontinued
