Barry Starcher. Using Atticus is so much easier and in comination with Prowritingaid what more could an author want. I used kindle create previously and found it so much more complicated and the end result was not as good as Atticus. For those that have not used Atticus, you should try it. Nothing out there as good.

@@carolinehurry183 I'm not sure what you mean by dividing intosections. You have unlimited chapters and ornamental breaks. Any problems I had, and there were plenty to start, I contacted the folks at Atticus and they were wonderful.

Once you make internal linking to text other than chapter headers I’ll be buying Atticus, as everything else looks absolutely great. My non fiction books have lots of internal cross reference links needed to regular paragraph text and images, so I’ll have to stick with Word for now.

Just so I'm clear, I shouldn't put my cover artwork in this program, right? I think I seen another video where when I upload to Amazon/Kindle it asks for my cover artwork. I'm assuming that this is why I don't input it into Kindle Create. Do I have that right? Btw, thanks a ton for the video. This was WAY easier than formatting it in word.

If I were you I would use Kindle Kids' Book Creator instead of Kindle Create for a children’s book. That's what I did and in my opinion it's so much easier to use and navigate. Or just let IngramSpark do it for you and they will not only publish it to Amazon (Kindle), but all of the other digital platforms as well. I'm in that process with IngramSpark now. Although I did find your video helpful, Kindle Create continues to make me crazy! I spent hours creating my book with Word, carefully setting all the headers and creating the Table of Contents, only to have many of them missing in Kindle Create. Also the images I had placed for each chapter suddenly ended up in the middle of a page. Although I do understand why page numbers can't be shown because you don't know what device they will be viewed on, I spent hours trying to just add a header with the chapter number. Apparently impossible. Even more frustrating the Preview is different and almost impossible to correct.

We use Vellum that flips all our Word formatted eBooks into the above mentioned formats. It's worked well for us.

@@lindaeberle7303 Thanks, Linda. I've used Vellum in the past but I'm using Atticus to format my books now and that's the program I'm really interested in at the moment. It's a great program. I would just like to see examples of how others have used Atticus, uploading to those mentioned platforms and what the final product looks like. I would have thought some authors might have examples of it on KZbin but I can't find anything. There are plenty of tutorials on how to use Atticus but none with examples of uploading to KDP or Ingram Spark (my preferred platform). I'd really like to see it in action.

Hi Wally. Thanks - next week, I have a video coming out on how to upload a book to KDP - I'll plan one on Ingram Spark. However, in the video I don't specify if the ePub file I upload was made by Atticus (even though it was). As for how the books look with both, we actually worked with both KDP and IngramSpark to ensure our coding is compliant with them - and how you see it in the previewer of Atticus is exactly how your book will look on the devices the reader uses when reading - no matter which market.

Great video, having trouble with the way Kindle create is formatting justified text on right-hand side. It is hyphenating words where I don't want instead of just adjusting the spacing. Going a bit mad. Any ideas?

No - that's sort of the problem of using Kindle Create. Personally, I think Amazon needs to spend a LOT more time fixing/improving the software (especially since the mother ship has made so many changes which aren't reflected in the program), but they are reluctant to do so.

Every time I use kindle create or kids book creator and follow all the directions, the preview looks perfect and horizontal for a kid's book, but once i actually purchase it (using other accounts) the actual download is no good. All over the place, but on the previews during upload it looks great. What is going on?? Ive tried all files, epub mobi and now the actual KPF format. They only mess up once you actually purchase and download from the kindle (not on my author's preview, looks good there)

Generally, what Kindle Crate shows you won't necessarily be the quality the reader will see. As for resolution specifically, no. But if the resolution isn't good enough, Amazon will reject it.

You're welcome. As for the question, yes you can - so long as you don't register your ebook with KU or KDP Select. Those require you to only sell on Amazon.

How do you move the table of contents to a page of your choosing? That's probably a shortcoming of Kindle Create that the company may consider fixing in later updates.

I have a question. I upload my manuscript in 2023 and having made many corrections uploaded the newest manuscript, and while I read the sample and it had the 2024 addition when I paid for it, it reinstated the older version. Have I done something wrong or am I missing something. Thx

I thought you meant that if you use kindle create, they would charge you .15 per meg delivery fee so I uninstalled it. Then I found out that they charge this fee no matter what program you use to create the epub if you are charging in the 2.99 to 9.99 range for your book. So I reinstalled it, LOL. I can't use Atticus because I need a fixed-format ebook for a picture book.

The size of the kpf file isn't the size of the download. For example, my largest kpf file is 43MB, but the delivery cost is 16¢.

That is correct. Amazon takes your file and configures to what their download cost is. However, it has been well documented by others that the result of the KPF file from Kindle Create has been larger than software.

For something like that Kindle Create would not be a good choice. It’s not built to handle that and your download charge would be astronomical.

If your book is fiction, is it wise and/or necessary to have a table of contents to list your chapters? Or is it better to go without? Feedback on video, Dave @Kindleprenuer, slow down your speech a little when explaining, and also the directions when using the cursor/arrow tool for highlighting where on the screen. You have to hav a Table of Content for an ebook - and it has to be clickable/hyperlinked. As for paperback/print, that can be up to you. However, I don't think it detracts necessarily.

Yeah, Amazon hasn't put much effort into the program and so it hasn't updated. This is starting to cause problems because certain newer updates to operating systems either are starting to have problems with it or aren't allowing it to work.

Hi Dave, you mentioned that KDP actually charges the author $0.15 cents per megabyte. I’ve an ebook selling at $0.99 and receive a royalty of $0.33 which seems about right @35% royalty. If they’re charging me $0.15 for every download, I should only be receiving $0.16 - something doesn’t add up here. Are they really charging for downloads? Just asking.

It's 0.15 per Megabyte....so if your file size is only 0.1 Megabyte, then it would only cost you 0.015 - so one cent. It all depends on your file size.

Why is this program so limited in what you can do with it? The font choices are horrible (there are only three), and there's no way to adjust text size. Not only that, but you practically need a magnifying glass to read the site directions. My guess is that the same people who designed the crippled Adobe programs also designed this thing. Kindle Create totally sucks. A slap in the face to all writers who use it.

Kindle Create - well, it's a free program, so it was designed to be just enough. As for font choices though - do note, this is for ebooks which means fonts don't matter. They don't matter because you can't program a set font. Once it is on someone's kindle, they choose which font, and can resize, etc.

@@KindlepreneurLet's be realistic, my friend. It's a 'free program' because Amazon profits from the books I sell on Kindle. So they are not providing me a means of placing my books for sale there out of the kindness of their heart. Also, I am referring more to the font sizes for the title and chapter headings. You get maybe half a dozen choices of font size. Readers shouldn't have to screw around with adjusting those, that's just ridiculous.
