Not awkward at all Dani. Human. On the topic of parenting and experiencing anxiety, trepidations, fear, concern about your little guy. Don’t expect that to go away anytime soon. Moving both my kids into their dorm rooms for college was probably one of the toughest things emotionally I had to do. I have a daughter that’s nearly 40 and a son that’s mid 30’s. I’m always going to have their well being on my mind. Cool that you mentioned old maid and Go Fish as games you play with your son, and you recall playing them as a child. That’s the game I remember too, and War. As far as the “preview videos”, you handle it in a very classy manner; I certainly don’t mind. Regarding games I’ve recently backed, I have Sigil, Crumbs, Wrestling Cubes, Tale of Ale, Nice Cuppa, Hyve. I also recently bought this little known game called “Wingspan”. Kindness is the best move

Yeah, I think there’s a lifetime of worry for me as a mom, thank goodness for boardgaming to help ground me and distract me from the stress of it all for a bit. I also did play War with my son. He liked it too! I hadn’t heard of 4 of the games you mentioned that you backed, so I have some research to do!! Thanks for sharing your thoughts with me :)

I’m on the fence about Tend. The game looks so interesting and I’d get it for solo play, mainly. Just not sure if it would get to the table too often

Same here. I plan on trying it on TTS if it is still on there to preview. I am backing it as of now though!

I love playing games with my kids! Sometimes they can pick the rules up quickly, even if they are a ways away from the “strategy”. One recent game that we have been playing a lot is Forbidden Island. Kindness is the best move.

I’ll have to check out Forbidden Island. That’s a game title I hear often, but don’t know much about it yet!

Good video, as always. I like the preview videos. And think it's cool that you are given the opportunity to check out the games. I have been playing Harvest as well. Also Park: Roll an Write, Witchcraft, and i have Roll Player set up also for this weekend. Keep up the great work. And keep up the bike videos, I like them. Kindness is the best move
@DaniChaАй бұрын
How difficult is Witchcraft to learn? Is the replayability good too? Thanks for sharing your thoughts and games you’ve been playing, Todd!! I have your latest uploaded videos on my watch list. Will check them out soon!
@travelinwithTODDАй бұрын
Witchcraft is easy to learn, and i think it is very replayable. It is not an easy game! Lol. Winning is difficult but very fun i think. I am actually playing it right now while watching the Lions football game. It is the same concept as Resist. So if you don't like Resist, you probably won't like Witchcraft. I picked up Cafe Baras yesterday. That is a fun little game. I am playing the solo version. The solo is beat your own score but I am ok with those kind of solo's.

I came across Cafe Baras on Boardtopia for a really good price. I think I only saw a fan made variant, is that right?

@@DaniCha yes. i downloaded it from BGG. its a 2 page document, where you remove cards depending on what card you take from the 4 face up cards. i can find the link if you didn't find it yet.

Kindness is the best move. Another great video. My thoughts: generally I don't mind preview videos though I have a huge problem with FOMO and patience. 😂 But I think it's wonderful you have the opportunity to receive the games and get to do that. When it comes to biking, I love the videos. I have been biking for over twenty years and I love riding at night. Though I will say I rarely ever ride on roads. I love trail riding and am fortunate to have several well lit walking / biking trails near me. I always use lights and am always aware of the surroundings. Wildlife and weirdos are out there. When it comes to having kids, it's never easy letting them go out into the wild so to speak. I wish I could say it gets easier as they get older. I found comfort in board games, reading, biking, puzzles, and anything else to keep my mind busy.

Thanks for letting me know you do like the biking videos. My bike isn’t great on non-paved roads, but I am in search of a good mountain/hybrid/gravel bike for when I get a bike mount. Probably in a year or two though! I’m so grateful for boardgaming and hobbies in general. It has and continues to have a positive impact on me and my mental health.

It’s hard in the moment but I always tell my new parent friends try not to get too mad about something you’ll laugh about when they’re older.

Great video thanks for the life update! Kindness is the best move. I’ve been trying to get my solo-friendly games off my shelf of same. I recently played Oros for the first time since I kickstarted it. Very fun game with a good automa system. I played Alice’s Garden with a fanmade automa. That’s a very simple game to play.

Parenting - remember that we're raising them to eventually be independent and confident. Of course, at 4, that's a long way off, but sounds like he's ready to move toward some independence and make some friends, which is cool. All kids are different so we're supposed to raise them according to their bent/passions, not ours - though with appropriate safeguards because they're still kids. But if they don't like (insert thing here), that's cool. But hey - you're a concerned and involved parents, so you're on a good path there! I can definitely understand some anxiety and that doesn't always go away as they get older. Biking at night - depends on the area. I grew up in a pretty well-lit area and even then it was a little uncomfortable. Being in a TX metro area now - I'd only bike at night on a dedicated bike path with lights. :) I suppose that "kindness is the best move" is kind of like the "Hug to Win" that Flip the Table made a bit more popular. :)
@DaniChaАй бұрын
Thanks so much for the parenting advice and support! It’s ways nice to hear from other parents. Are there a lot of bicycle riders in TX? I hadn’t heard of Flip the Table’s phrase, but that’s a nice one!!
@PeterSchottАй бұрын
Bike riders vary. There can be good numbers but not a lot of bike trails. As for Flip the Table - if you haven't had a chance to listen to their podcast archive, it is well worth it. I think that phrase was borrowed from when they did the Care Bears or Hello Kitty game. :)

I always support my wife feelings as I understand it comes with motherhood. So being on the opposite side of the coin I understand she feels that way but at the same time I don't as men. Both sexes have a different way of upbring. It's great see you're concerned for your children. I really enjoy your unboxings and solo previews of how the game plays. My opinion, things are conflicted when individuals receive games and tell people it's good, or to purchase as I see its a conflict of interest. One must keep good standing with the deisgner or publisher to keep games flowing. So it conflicts with the influencers' true feelings of the game. I think if you go onto game reviews especially when receiving games from publishers or designers be 1) transparent 2) ensure you feel comfortable being honest. I'm finding #2 as a problem now. So many influencers are being very cryptic or word salid that you need a decoder ring to figure out what they are saying. I see this alot more so today than the past. I believe if you did a pro's and con's or what you liked or disliked about game would be a better route. Instead of telling or recommending someone to purchase a game. People view reviews as recommendations. Myself I don't like watching reviews. I like watching unboxings to see content and playthroughs to get a feel for the game to make my own decisions. I know you try to be neutral but everyone has biases. I believe if you are transparent, you would be fine. I normally play medium to medium/High games. 2024 has been about discovering the opposite spectrum light/medium. It's very difficult as there are many very light games for my taste. Discovered my first flip and write game I really enjoy Fliptown. I also have a fancy for solitaire style games. Just played Flatiron a fun light weight building game. On the heavier side I like Dune Imperium, Tapestry, and Boonlake just to name a few. Great video keep up the great work! Take care. By the way I liked the tree in the background. Also, safe travels next month during the holidays. Almost forgot. You may want to wear one of those glow in the dark vest when riding at night. We have a dedicated separated back hill bike lane not close to the road. So incidents are less of a problem. I really enjoy seeing your bike videos as this encourage me on my adventure for 2025.

Thanks so much for sharing your opinions on the unboxing and solo previews! It’s great to get feedback. I fully agree with your thoughts on game reviews. I will continue to try to be as transparent and honest. I agree with you that there’s always biases involved. I have to revisit Fliptown, it’s been awhile. I’ll look into Flatiron! I just got Dune Imperium on digital, and been relearning it. I need to get the strategy down again. Glow in the dark vest sounds neat, I have to look into that for my rides. I’ll try to post more biking videos soon! Thanks for sharing all your thoughts with me!!
