The name "Peter" does not have any significant offensive or negative connotations in most languages. However, in French, the verb péter sounds similar to "Peter" and colloquially means "to f*rt." This usage is informal and may be seen as impolite in certain contexts. If you're using the name internationally, it's typically well-recognized and respected. It's a beautiful country. I took a train to there once from Austria in 1997. Took days to get there. Back in the 90s , it was empty. Zilch tourists. And lovely and cheap. you definitely felt like you were travelling. Almost back in time ...felt like something out of an Indiana jones movie Seem to remember posters everywhere of Bashirs dad beaming down at you either in his nice suit or sheek military uniform. Seriously beautiful, almost a holy biblical scene up in the north Spent weeks touring the so called enpty cities which long abandoned centuries ago you can have all too yourself. A taxi and a guide could be had for 20 quid a day...including fresh bought cheese and bread. You can't imagine how utterly silent those ruined desert churches were .....half domed stone roofs , fig trees growing out of the walls , christain symbols carved in the walls centuries ago , walls intact but now open to the sky and surrounded by deserts and olive trees as far as you can see .... stunningly beautiful. Can't think I'd risk that place these days tho

There were backpackers all over, travellers from many countries in Latakia, in fact there were even 2 hotel rates, one for foreign tourists and one for citizens of Syria. Aleppo had dozens of travel foreign currency shops also for tourists. There were religious tourists to see the Syrian patriarch, students and scholars, tour groups all from abroad visiting Palmyra . The only place I was ever told not to go was the Golan heights and certain border crossing areas in Northern Syria because ''bandits'' operated there.

HTS: nurtured by Turkey, trained by USA and Ukraine, supported by Israel and UK, financed by Qatar. MSM: "It was a popular uprising!"

Well, if you watched live-streaming from Damascus, the ordinary people were jubilant and celebrating the overthrow of the murderous tyrant. HTS is a proscribed terrorist organisation, so you're full of it with your baseless accusations.

HTS is designated by both the US and the Turkish as a terrorist group. The Qataris support them, but literally every domestic actor in Syria had at least some support from someone.

"Basil passed away in a car accident in '94." Imagine the scene: the guy gets behind the wheel of his car, brimming with confidence. The conditions? Perfectly disastrous-dense fog blankets the road like a scene from a horror movie. Visibility? Who needs it! Seatbelt? Pfft, overrated. Speed? Well, let’s just say 240 km/h seems like the reasonable choice, because why not? Life is short-let’s make it shorter! So, there he goes, hurtling down the highway at breakneck speed, practically playing hide-and-seek with fate. Permanent road barriers loom somewhere ahead, invisible in the fog. Does he slow down? Of course not-slowing down is for mere mortals. Our man Basil is on a mission: to redefine the boundaries of human folly. And then it happens-he "accidentally" slams into the barriers at 240 km/h. Yes, ACCIDENTALLY. Calling this an "accident" feels like calling a deliberate cannonball dive into an empty pool a swimming mishap. Perhaps a more fitting term would be natural selection in action, or terminal stupidity. "Passed away" implies a gentle, inevitable transition-what actually happened here is more like Basil catapulted himself out of existence.

At first sight and at all levels, what's happening in Syria is a catastrophe. Firstly, for so many who live there, extreme violence is upon them. Just what is to happen beyond the initial phase is hardly likely to get any better.
