I saw this movie fifty years ago on a Sunday afternoon in November of 1973 at the Uptown Theater in Chicago. It was part of a double feature, playing along with The Sacred Knives Of Vengeance. As a teenager, I was obsessed with kung fu movies. I later got into trouble when I returned home for having snuck off to the movies without telling my mother and missing family dinner. I saw the movie with two of my classmates, who would be killed in a freak car accident one year later in November of 1974, that was the last time I ever saw Michael Jimenez and Adrian. We were all thirteen years of age, just young lads. Its hard to believe that the two of them have been dead almost fifty years, both being deprived of the opportunity to grow into adults. I walked by the Uptown theater two weeks ago and I thought about that day nearly fifty years ago.

Wow... you're the FIRST person I have come across who mentioned "Sacred Knives Of Vengeance" I cant find that movie at all... The Fox Theater in Detroit was where we watched three movies every Saturday morning; I too, have great memories of my Brother and friends who were with me then, but have passed on... Part of the reason these films are still important to me is this is a way to still look back on those days and remember them...

Those "many" havent seen the rest of the kung fu movies it seems... i love the plot, the story, freaking badass, but its missing one important thing, CHOREOGRAPHY & MARTIAL ARTISTS.... the kicking, punching technique, movements etc. of literally ALL these dudes were absolutely horrible, fighting this way was normal with b-movies & classic kung fu movies, but this is just even below that level, sooooo bad... fighting was so bad it made me wanna just quit the movie the first time i saw it (around 1989), i stayed until the end this time just to see if i maybe missed something because Q.Tarantino recently dubbed it as one of the best movies of all time, i am a huge kung fu movie buff, been watching them for 40 years and i have to strongly disagree with Q.Tarantino, this is not even one of the 30 best old school Kung Fu movies ive seen....

I'm sure it was considered "by many" to be the greatest kung fu movie of all time for about... a year lol Lo may be one amongst the legends but with Lee, Chan, Li and especially Liu coming out with legendary kung fu movies, now, this movie is not even top 20 of all time. I would say Top 50 tho..

Yeah, some of the low tier films that seem to get praise is baffling… Saying that though, some of the players/directors of the genre from that period also put out their fare share of stinkers! Horses for courses I guess.

It's definitely not better than One-Armed Swordsman. I would say it wasn't the best kung fu movie when it came out. And since 1972, lot of good kung fu films have come out. I wouldn't even hesitate to say, that "Murder of Murders"(Yu qing ting), with Chi Kuan Chun and Lo Lieh is better than this. So it's not even the best Lo Lieh movie.

For the era and fighting style...this is very well written. Nice exposition...yer a bit brutal. Eye gouging was way ahead of its' time in 1972. The cinemas were packed on this showing of a classic kung fu movie. The father ambush was always very emotional for me...as a kid. Something about bullies...the 3 against one ratio,I guess. Plus that final confrontation was always special.....that dramatic music from some American TV series as I recall...pure magic.

Some folks will disagree with some of my must-see picks, but most likely them folks will find one or more they will also like: Five Deadly Venoms Crippled Masters Kid With The Golden Arms Shogun Assassin Blade Of The Immortal Geisha Assassin Hapkido-1972 starring Angela Mao with a young Jackie Chan as an extra playing bad guy dressed in black standing at the entrance of Japanese dojo! Sister Street Fighter Hanging By A Thread-1974 over the top action where Etsuko Shihomi shows mad nunchucks skills👍! Lady Snowblood (more 1970s goodness!)

Hmm the moves are kind of realistic are they? Lots of evading, snap kicks and some sweeping.
