I was 7 when this show first started and 11 when it ended. Yes it was a bit campy at times but it still was a fantastic show.

I loved this when I was a kid, mainly because I was fascinated with the ocean, ships and submarines. Surprising that I didn't end up joining the navy. But even then when I was a pre-teen, I thought Voyage to the bottom of the sea was a bit weird with the monsters and stuff. Now seeing it again after 50 years, I see it as terribly absurd. Can't even watch 30 seconds of it, the weirdness and silliness are off the charts. But thanks for putting it up and bring back memories.

With so many episodes where various crew are being controlled, impersonated having to fight one another or taken over it's a miracle they're not all paranoid or can ever be sure of one another!

I wonder if the actors wore special eye protection during the release of all the fireworks at the beginning of the show?

When I was a kid I was the biggest fan of this show. Eventually my folks gave me a model of the Seaview submarine for Christmas one year; I think I was about nine years old. I remember my father helping me with much of the gluing and painting. Kept that old model around for years, until…, while I was away overseas in my third or fourth year on active duty in the navy, when my sister’s young dog, Mr. Peabody, got into my stuff and really managed to chew the heck out of the front end of it. Really mangled the hell out of the bow and whatever those really cool wing-things are called on either side of the bow. My sister felt absolutely terrible about it. I told her forget about it cause it now looked like it just got done battling one of the sea monsters or giant heads of lettuce creatures the crew seemed to find themselves confronting every other week or so on the show !

A still shot of the two-headed critter holding the Seaview underwater was on the cover of the TV Guide that week. I think that was one of the first clues the public had as to the size of one of the Seaview underwater shooting models. The more elaborate monsters in Irwin Allen's shows sometimes reappeared in the other shows. The two-headed critter appeared in at least one Lost In Space episode I remember as a human-scale monster.
