Yes, Bran WILL be King in the books, but he will be a greenseer king. Take a walk through everything we know about greenseers, wargs, skinchangers, and what they've done with their power in Westeros to get an idea of what "Bran the God King" really means.
BONUS: the definitive collection of "Arya leads the huge motherf---in' wolfpack against the wights" foreshadowing.... yeah buddy!

Excellent content as always! I know it's a lot of work putting in all those images, but it's well worth the effort. Spectacular visuals (better than the show, as I can actually see them!) and spectacular analysis, though also a bit of a potentially tragic, or at least a bit dangerous position for Bran to be in. A warg king is no child's play (all the puns intended). If Bran is a warg king in the books, there's a level of perverted wish fulfillment, methinks. We all love a good fantasy story where the crippled boy with a magical destiny grows up to be king (who has the best story?), but what does that actually mean for what the child has to sacrifice and suffer in order to make it so? Is it *good* for the child to have such a heavy burden on them? Is it good for the realm to have a ruler who had to give up a piece of their humanity to become the kind of god king they wanted? That's at least a part of what we should think about too. A good story in the abstract, but actually rather dark and sad when you see what it cost.

i found it a little jarring to hear tyrion announce that a good story was the most important element in the fitness of a ruler when it had never been mentioned as a theme by anyone, and indeed as a concept seems more at home in hollywoo than westeros, but then, there's a starbucks in winterfell, so wtf do I know?

Same here, but if you think about it it's right in a way, maybe not exactly just bwcause he himself has a good story, but really when it comes to Brans abilities, taking into account the person wasn't already or hasnt become a total psychopath due to the change, his abilities would be amazing for a good king. He could see what's happening everywhere, into the past to see the truth of things and what does/doesn't work, and so many other reasons. Then obviously seeing into the future has it's own self evident benefits lol. But if it's a shit person...Yeah, surveillance state to the max plus a Minority Report deal thrown in too....That would be not good most likely lol

Great video! Further evidence: in Arya IV she recalls Robb and Jon organizing a prank. Jon covers himself in flour and tries to scare everyone in the crypts by acting like a spirit. Bran begins sobbing and wraps himself around around Robb's leg, but Arya stands her ground and punches jon (or as she says "the spirit") and then chastises him for 'scaring the baby'.

@@Jon-pw2ik completely agree. David really understands the hidden meanings and gems behind Martin's work. I feel like people think just bc Martin writes in a 'gardener' style, he just let's shit happen and watches as it grows and that makes the book. It doesn't work like that. The asoiaf books are so meticulously written with foreshadowing, symbolism, parallels, metaphors in uncountable places, it is astounding. The commenter really doesn't seem to understand the depth of this world
@tylerdurden3722
@tylerdurden3722 Жыл бұрын
@@stars-and-clouds Martin himself described that, that's exactly how he writes. Because he finds the architect writing style boring. He wants to be surprised by his own work. E.g. Originally, there were no dragons in his story. The Targaryans were pyromancers in the original idea he was beginning to put on paper. Of course, his work is loosely based on real world history and myths, and put together in a mostly logical and coherent way...but vagueness is intentionally added especially when it comes to past and mythical elements. Westeros is mostly based on Britain. England was once made up of 7 kingdoms, before it was unified into one kingdom, England. The Celts are the inspiration for the First men, weirwood trees etc are inspired by druids and their tree worship. Bran the Blessed was a realworld mythilogical person who could see the future, and his name means Raven. The Wall is Hadrian's Wall that seperated the Picts, who are the wildlings. The war between the Starks and Lanisters is inspired by the War of the Roses (a white rose vs a Red rose). House of York against the House of Lancaster, where virtually all the males on both sides got wiped out, a mentally unstable king is involved. Robert baratheon is inspired by Henry VIII, the wild card who became king. Aegon the Conquerer is based on William the conquerer. The Ironborn are the Viking presence in Britain. The Andals are the Angles, Saxons and Jutes. Harren is based on Harold. Etc. By looking at that, one can deduce Martin's style. He follows the real world inspiration very loosly. He cherry picks certain things, jumbles things up. He merges and swaps things from different time periods. Characters are created from elements of multiple real characters, and single characters become elements of multiple other characters. Most of the elements of the inspiration isn't added. It's intentionally made as unpredictable as possible. Predicting is possible, but only to a degree. The mythical elements are even less predictable, by design. In order to deduce the original structure of the basic world, you have to imagine the plot without dragons, and who knows what else. Such changes and additions happened several times, and continues to happen. To me it seems, the mythical aspect of his original idea was based on people with strangely colored eyes, that represented the potential for various types magical abilities, depending on eye color, all of which have a dark side and sinister past. Dragons and many other elements got woven into whatever the original idea was, altering the original idea as he goes along.

1:07 I definitely didn't think Brian would be king but I always thought that he was kind of the main character not Daenerys or Jon Snow. Like it was his story and he would have the greatest impact on the epilogue and world after. So I don't think he's a literal king but I did think he would stop the Others. It wasn't shocking and kind of pleasantly surprising that one thing in the show ending made me happy, but I don't think anybody really predicted that he would be king of Westeros
@lazerbeam134

My theory is that Jon and Danaerys are being set up as the champions of the Lord of Light and Bran will represent the Old Gods that Melisandre has implied are merely facets of the Great Other. That will put Jon in opposition with his brother but also make him conflicted with Dany. There is also the other Targaryen floating around to muck things up. Wouldn't it be wild if the Others ended up serving Bran? lol

A watchtower in the middle of a lake with a greenseer in it? Sort of reminds me of the Gods Eye. Watch=eye, the greenseer Bran represents the green men. I love your new video format even more than the classic ones. Btw, I have to be responsible for half of your views, because I always listen to them before falling asleep and often wake up at the end of a whole playlist and start over next night from the point I lost. As for the topic - some points people ignore: 1 The eye colour rule refers to Children, not men, I do think the Stark kids' wolves have eye colours of dead CotF residing in their bodies, unless it's a hide clue - see 6. 2 The percentage of greenseers has to be a current state of affairs - the gene probably disappeared for whatever reason, cause I find it unlikely thy CotF population was ever big enough to warrant these high numbers of greenseers, perhaps the wars caused it, perhaps the magic getting weaker in he world, perhaps disproportions between sexes. 3 The skinhanching and greenseeing (and Dragonlord?) genes have to come from mothers in my opinion - Varamyrs children are one of many many proofs. 4 Greenseers are said to control all *living creatures*, if I recall correctly - so humans, humanoids, animals and magical beings such as dragons, I don't think it includes wights, because I think Others' powers are twisted, corrupted, reversed weirwood magic, though this is just my feeling, it would fit the yin-yany vibe of the books. I wonder however if skinchanging a dragon would be lethal or at least traumatic, since they are alive, magical fire, the the for skinchanging White Walkers. 5 Aside from true greenseers, there are so many... seers in our story - Jojen, Ghost, Dany, Mel, Quaithe, tho girl from Ariannes WoW chapter, so perhaps we shouldn't be too concerned with Bloodravens lecture. 6 Three Eyed Crow is another force, outside of weirwoods and Children, we need to take into consideration - Bran doesn't have any greenseer traits, until the trickster manipulates him into opening the 3rd eye, his powers later peak through trauma, darkness and possibly Jojens sacrifice - maybe Bran is more made, than born a greenseer? Maybe powers on both sides - 3EC and CotF wanted to give powers to someone of Stark bloodline? 7 I suspect Jon can be the second, if not the frst Stark warg actually - considering how powerful he seems to Varamyr, despite having least warging experience apart from Sansa, plus he has that boost of Targaryen, Blackwood and Dayne blood from his father.Lets see what happens after the ultimate trauma, darkness and warging experience of dying. 8 Lastly - I love that you pointed Ancient Bran also being wed to the weirwood, I keep thinking about the seeds In the paste and the tree literally passing through Bloodravens body, sucking his blood and life force and it's a disturbing thought.

I was wondering about some possible foreshadowing in the show. When Dany is in the house of the undying, she walks into a ruined throne room, she walks towards the iron throne, but never sits on it, instead there is snow on the throne. But of course when she finally enters the throne room, there's no snow only ash from the city she's just burned. In your videos you have provided a lot of links between ash and weirwoods, Yggdrasil being an ash tree and so fourth. Is it possible that the scene from house of the undying is foreshadowing Three eyed crow Bran, as a representative for the weirwoods, on the Iron throne, with King Jon Snow being a red herring?

You have reveled many secrets and an overall understanding of ASOIAF, but I think more than that, you have discovered a way (Georges way rather) that each characters arc is laid out. I've long toyed with a theory/observation about the parallels of Bran and Arya. "Growing up as a middle child of Ned Stark, I loved stories, esp morbid ones. I wanted to be a knight, but when I told people they'd just grimace and glance awkwardly at my legs. But the kid of the hand of the king gets a few strings pulled. So now I'm gonna get Dancer training, and fight like they do in the East. Aw shit, bye Dancer. Guess now I'm headed north with some guys who've got links to my dad, his past, and secret children of the throne. Along the way I'll cross paths with Sam Tarly, pass through a dark Weirwood door, and surrender my identity to some creepy 'face' people." They seem to be unfolding of one story. Like George set out to include all this in Arya's story, realized TFM & WWnet was too much for one character, and spun Bran off to go hard into old magic. I'm sure you've already covered this. But my favorite implication (beyond being a neat is observation) is how the ellision of Faceless Men and Greenseer/Three Eyed Crow threads fits nicely with Euron. The Crow's Eye, ascendant through Faceless Man killing, is like the most nefarious employment of both in the whole story.

George has to have been craving an opportunity to do that homophone play from the second ge introduced wolf princes, right?

Any thoughts on the significance of Stone.....lady Stone Heart, Dragon Stone, Black Oily Stone. It seems like Bran(Green) brings nature back to life where Ice(Death) brings and end to life and that is green. I feel like Stone and Fire have some relationship ....any thoughts? Was there a song of stone and fire that brought the doom of Valyria.....possibly like the second moon effecting death and nature on the surface......could there be something below that effects stone and fire? Valyria was stone and the fire consumed it.....could death also be fire when required?

the black stone under THE tower in hightower which has so much mysteries surrounding it & it similarities to the ones in iron islands. Then there is the setup of a fight between euron greyjoy & leyton hightower surrounding oldtown in the book. Sansa taking the bastard name of 'Stone' might be another farfetched link

Yes QUEEN ARYA!!! Agree with everything except the emphasis on the amount of killing Arya is going to do as I believe once she interacts, possibly gives the gift of mercy to Lady Stoneheart, Arya isn't going to have a taste for vengeance anymore. She'll serve justice and mercy though and still fight for survival, but I think her vengeance/list will be gone by then. I also believe that the point of her HoBaW arc isn't about her actually becoming an assassin or Faceless Man, but about honing the skills she only began to learn from Syrio. So no I don't believe she'll be an actual assassin.
@DavidLightbringer
@DavidLightbringer 4 жыл бұрын
It's possible I wasn't clear on that point because it was a bit of an aside, but no I don't think she will actually be a "faceless man," but one who has learned their skills and then gone off and done their own thing. I also think (and hope) there will be some progress from carrying out revenge to letting go of hate and anger for Arya, but we will have to see. Either way, she will be leading that wolfpack by the end, I think.

Maybe Lady Stoneheart will have a redemption arc, giving kiss of life to another person - some people say to Jon, but he would have to be stored in Ice cells to be worth resurrecting before she'd get there.
@rianbeegles3349
@rianbeegles3349 4 жыл бұрын
@@ocandro If LS is even capable of redemption I think it would only come about if she witnesses another one of her kids die - probably would be Arya - and she ends up sacrificing her revenge by giving said kid the kiss of life. I'm not convinced though that LS is even capable of redemption. I also think her giving up her life for Jon to be resurrected is far fetched. It just doesn't work for me. I also believe her story for now is sticking to the Riverlands where she can get the most revenge. I do also believe she'll be the one to kill the Frey's, not Arya. So unless Jon is in the ice cells for months upon months and LS just miraculously gains sanity then I'd say it's going to be Melisandre and possibly Bran doing the resurrecting.

his powers have so much potential if used correctly. - 1 If he could somehow warg into a person permanently, he could be immortal and just switch bodies every time. He'd have to master warging to the highest degree but it's possible. - 2 There has to be a way for him to reforge or rebuild his body, with all the magic in the world, there has to be. It might be painful but it'd be worth it. soldiers

Pretty sure I watched those but there seem to be so many possible connections and symbolic ties between basically the entire history of the North and the children and the others that I find it very hard to sort of keep an overlaying "canon" theory in my head it would seem haha. I wonder if the Faceless Men have a Weirwood tree deep in their temple. If Bran is supposed to be the ultimate weapon of the Old Gods/Weirwoods, a greenseer who can rule the Iron throne and train a new green seer over the course of a century and a half to succeed him, in response to the First Men and Andals, and the Faceless Men worship a Many-Faced God (like thousands of trees with faces) and are possibly implicated in the Doom of Valyria as the first Faceless Men were slaves of the Freehold "who had been given the Gift", as Jaqen also alludes to the slavers being given the gift as well (gift of death). Perhaps the Faceless Men were acting on the behalf of the Weirwoods as well, who foresaw Fire and Blood dealing the final blow to the Weirwoods after the First Men and Andal invasions. Or perhaps the Weirwoods of Essos (if any existed) were wiped out by the Valyrians. This would also provide a reason as to why Jaqen was in a prison train, as perhaps he had some insight he would end up at Harrenhal which is where the Isle of Faces is located (funny name huh), as well as being a fortress made of weirwood and dead bodies.

the "Arya thing" seems to be a nod to the fact that Northeners seems to look alike. Lyanna, Arya, Alys Karstark, and they even had Jeyne Pool masquerade as Arya. ... or, mayhaps its the Northerners having some of the genetics Children of the Forests that make them look alike.

I think I can help, Jon was supposed to be king. Thanks to Ned basically hanging him out to dry, he ended up at the nights watch, and gets killed. Since Jon has died, he cannot become king. It may kill him permanently. I believe Bran, and Bloodraven we’re trying to save Jon. Just my take on why Bran installed himself as king. He sends Jon up north to do whatever he wants.

Varamyr's POV intrigued and disgusted me. What he did to Haggon in particular was just sad and unnecessarily cruel. The guy raised him and tried to teach him to be a decent person and he killed him and knowingly used his power for evil. According to Varamyr he cried when he died- I wonder if it was because he realized he raised a monster. But being ripped from his second life is the icing on the cake. That's COLD. In the harsh world they live in, I think it's pretty damn realistic. Some people are good, some people are evil. Same thing applies to skinchangers. We know Bran is super powerful but I wonder if Jon or even Rickon could ever be able to be as powerful of a skinchanger as Varamyr (I don't have a source but I feel like they could be stronger than Varamyr). If they could, they'd probably be like the warrior-king skinchangers you described. Very cool to think about. Awesome video man!

I can think of a couple... First of all it's hard to do that to anyone, and it's made clear Hodor is more susceptible to Bran because of his 'simple' (broken or traumatized) mind. NK is some kind of ancient wizard, so not an easy target. Secondly, his physiology is totally alien to humans, being a being made of ice. Probably Bran can't be inside the mind / body of a dragon either, too hot

Imaginative take on the Stark ancestry, I never applied the implications to Arya before! I had a theory about 2 months ago regarding the Marsh Kings www.reddit.com/r/asoiaf/comments/c7fvkh/spoilers_main_thenns_transplanted/? Also think the Varamyr prologue gives clues of what might of happened to Benjen. I can’t remember if I mentioned that one before?
