For a second, I thought this video's title was a headline news story. 😂 I thought, "That's crazy, how could those Brits have turned on Charles so quickly?"

Same. 'They just crowned him! And now they're already - oh wait, different King Charles. Never mind.'

Cromwell became more and more like a king and in the end was buried in royal robes and a crown. Plus ça change....power corrupts and all that.

Childhood is seeing Charles as the bad guy, adulthood is realizing he was wasn’t great but his execution wasn’t just.

Charles I had a tumultuous relationship with parliament, and tensions between the two reached a boiling point in the 1640s. The king's attempts to rule without parliament, his imposition of unpopular taxes, and his refusal to make religious concessions to parliament all contributed to the growing conflict. In 1642, the country descended into civil war, with the king and his supporters, known as the Royalists, pitted against the parliament and its supporters, known as the Roundheads. The war lasted for several years, with both sides winning victories and suffering defeats. In 1646, Charles surrendered to the parliament's forces, but negotiations for his release soon broke down. In 1648, he made a failed attempt to regain power by allying with the Scots and starting a second civil war. After the Royalist forces were defeated, the parliament put Charles on trial for high treason, and he was found guilty. Despite protests from his supporters, including a last-minute attempt to rescue him by force, he was beheaded in front of a large crowd in London.

Imagine committing treason against yourself. I’d just pardon myself then be like, yolo.
