I remember as an 8 year old American child being awakened by my mother in the middle of the night and taken next door to a neighbor house that had a television set to watch Elizabeth being crowned as the Queen. (very unusual at that time as it was broadcast live) Now at 76 years old I am watching that same woman being buried and her son who was born when I was 3 years old being crowned King. Time moves on. I hope Charles is as successful as his mother was.

I have lived for the entirety of Queen Elizabeth II's reign and now I will see the reign of her son, King Charles III. I have seen much come to pass in my 71 years and I will likely forget some of it when I reach my "old" age and time to jump to my next adventure. But I will never forget Queen Elizabeth nor the crowning of King Charles III. Although many may think these ceremonies are "arcane" or "bonkers" as the one reporter stated, to me, an American, I find them enlightening and fascinating. Traditions matter. They are what hold families and countries together. Long live King Charles III. God bless the world.

My own mother and Queen Elizabeth were both born on April 21, 1926. Every year when we'd celebrate my mons birthday we'd also toast Queen Elizabeth. I'm glad for Charles that he had six more years with his mom than I got with mine, and I'm sad for him that he's now lost her. No matter how long a life our parents may have it still feels too soon to have them pass on. I think Charles is a decent guy who will serve well as King. Condolences and best wishes to him.

Can't help drawing the analogy with Edward VII, who succeeded his mother Queen Victoria in 1901 at the age of 59. He'd waited all those decades to take the throne, and Charles has waited even longer. Edward died nine years later in 1910 at 68--five years younger than Charles is now; it'll be interesting to see how long Charles lasts. To equal Edward's reign, he'd have to make it to age 82.
@paulbrookes67052 жыл бұрын
Edward VIII let a very dissolute life and was overweight and suffered from bronchitis. His life style was not good he smoked and drank too much with little exercise. Charles on the other hand is mindful of his health and is fit for his age. Hopefully he'll live much longer.

There's a big possibility that Charles is not as ambitious as his young-self. Similar with Biden who had decided to leave a quite semi-retired life but then was thrusted into the politics when the country was extremely divided. Charles, although is undoubtly happy with the coronation, would not be very excited about his new role. After all, with new role comes new responsibilities and he's definitely not young anymore. There's so little of additional physical rewards comes with the role compares to the additional responsibilities.
