At least the Viking Norsemen fought each other for the Title, since when did the Von Battenbergs of Rhine and Gothe and of course Windsor do anything like that.
@thealmightyaku-41536 ай бұрын
The lineage of the King goes all the way back 1600 years to the Romano-British chiefs who defended the southern British coasts, to King Cerdic. Also, every male member of the Royals is a former member of the Armed Forces. For all his many faults, Prince Andrew, for example, fought in the Falklands.

@@thealmightyaku-4153 The Angles, Saxons, and Vikings formed England, and then the Normans transformed the nation into what it is today with the Anglo-Saxon Norman Language from 1066. The Romans never had any Kings. The Norman Conquerors transformed the Law, the Church, and the Language. The Normans built Windsor Castle, and then the Von Battenburgs of Rhine, Gothe, and Hesse assumed power. They only changed their family name from Von Battenburg to Mount Batten to suit the commoners and then changed it to Windsor after the Norman Castle. The Three Lions are the coat of arms brought to England by Norman the Conqueror, Duke of Normandy, and Duke of Aquitaine. Richard, Cour De Lion of Aquitaine and Normandy. But today, it is more about Marching bands, Regalia, and Tattoos; Swords are not used. All the pomp and ceremony is about Tourism. Great Britain is the Latin term for the Largest Island of the British Isles, like the Grand Comores and Grand Canaries. Grand equal to Large! I am looking forward to the unification of Ireland!
@thealmightyaku-41536 ай бұрын
@@cliveengel5744 The Royal Family can trace its lineage back to Cerdic of Wessex. The Anglo-Saxon Chronicle maintains he was an Angle, descended from Odin himself - but "Cerdic" is a native Brittonic (ie. Celtic) name, as are the names of 7 of his immediate successors. (Also, the Romans did have Kings - the 7 Kings of Rome, and native client kings beneath the aegis of their Imperium were common, like Herod the Great, and it was their general policy to work with local/native prominent families and royal houses.) After the departure of the Roman Empire from Britain's shores, the native Romano-Britons tried to maintain & continue their policies & maintain security (some say the last true successor to the Roman Empire in the West was actually a minor Welsh kingdom). That meant giving native chiefs authority, and hiring foreign tribes as mercenaries, foederati, who were then paid in settlement rights - ie. the Angles, Saxons, & Jutes. King Cerdic seems to have been one such native Chief who hired Angles to help keep order and maintain coastal security. Indeed, it may even be that the lineage of leadership might go back to pre-Roman times, since Old Sarum, the original ancient seat of the House of Wessex (or, rather, Cerdic's tribe, the Gewisse, which also may have been a native Britonnic name) was originally a native Britonnic hillfort built in 400 BC. Funnily enough, Old Sarum is located near to Stonehenge. The House of Wessex eventually took over all the lands settled by the Angles, Saxons & Jutes, ie. England. They incorporated other Anglo-Saxon Royal Houses, too. William the Conquerer took over England himself because he claimed the last undisputed English King, Edward the Confessor (who was childless) appointed him as his heir and successor - which was true. William was also a relative of Edward - grandson of Edward's maternal uncle, Richard of Normandy. All the Germanic Kings & Royalty were related to each other. William the Conquerer married Matilda II, who was a member of the House of Wessex, & the Wessexes also fled into Scotland, marrying into their Royal line, which then also later married back into the Norman line via the marriage of Matilda of Scotland to Henry II. The Royal Family may have changed its names as various Houses rise or fall, but their lineage is unbroken going back, at least, all the way to Cerdic, who was himself likely at least half native Briton. A 1600-year lineage of native Royal rule. William the Conquerer insisted on maintaining as many pre-existing Anglo-Saxon traditions and practices as possible. Which he did. Swords are still used - the Sword of State, for example, or the swords used to Knight people. "Great Britain" is not the Latin name. "Great" is a Germanic word. "Britain" is also not a Latin word - it is a native pre-Roman Celtic word. It seems to have been the native Celt word for the Island itself, or the largest tribe at the time of the Roman invasions. The Welsh name for the Island is "Prydain", after all, which every linguist on the issue agrees is related to the word "Britain." The actual Latin word, Brittania, simply means "place of the Britons".
