I know its an old video. But im doing coilover on a 93 ttb RHD ranger. Its body lifted as well as suspension lifted, totalling 10". I have been looking for a video that tells what springs to order. 200/200 if that works for u, it will work for me. Thanks for such an awesome channel. Build theory and they call me wally are 2 others that i use often as well. I have tried joining forums but it seems like mostly douche bags are on forums so i use yt and mind my business, build my stuff and distance myself from the clowns!

And 1 of the commentors said kings have to be rebuilt yearly. That sux, so i prolly wont be using king. But the spring rates will get used.

Also, on my ranger. Behind the factory coil spring perches, it was completely rusted out so i put in plates. Is that common on fords?
@RecklessWrenchGarage2 жыл бұрын
As for the kings needing to be rebuilt every year, that all depends on how you use them. I would suggest speaking to a company that deals first hand with rebuilding shocks to get an idea how often you should look into a rebuilding them based on the area you live and the type of use they see. We have kings on the Ranger and Stuburban. The Ranger was set up for almost two years before the shocks were torn down for tuning. The Stuburban has had them on since 2018, and only the rear have come apart for repair due to damage a year after they were installed.

How are you liking the rear spring rate of 150/150, would you do anything different softer springs, shorter shock? Are the springs ever hitting the shock since they are so long and soft? What is your estimated vehicle weight? How much up travel are you getting? Thanks for your answers in advance I am in the middle of procuring my own set.
@RecklessWrenchGarage3 жыл бұрын
When the shock was mounted like this on top of the axle, I eventually went to 100/150 springs since my backend is so light. My weight of the entire rear is 1700 lbs, with about 5-600 lbs of unsprung weight. After building the trailing arms, I think that is a much better way to go for how I drive. With how lightweight the back of my truck is, it was really hard to find springs for it. That was one reason for the trailing arms is to give me better spring tuning options because I can use a heavier rate. Total weight was 4700 lbs.

Nice explanation of the coilovers. How's the 200/200 working for you?
@RecklessWrenchGarage6 жыл бұрын
So far we have not tested it more than 5 miles or so. The ride height is perfect with the 200/200 though, exactly the height we were going for.

@@RecklessWrenchGarage slider is going to marr up the shock body. better off using that spring rate, but changing the lenght to get your ride, then using a light spring as a tender coil with your pre load.

I am wondering 4 link suspension is more worth than leaf spring? Actually i wanna get my m1008 front leaf converted to parallel 4 link. But I don’t know what it benefits . Ride quality is much better?
@RecklessWrenchGarage3 жыл бұрын
The easy answer is a link suspension will offer more movement/flexibility than leaf springs. They can be setup to be more comfortable, reduce alignment changes throughout travel, prevent axle wrap and maintain more precise characteristics... With the correct leaf springs and shocks, you could potentially match the ride quality of most common link suspensions. The rear can be set up to have plenty of travel on leafs, but the front will be limited due to things like steering, and pinion angle change.

Why did you choose these coilover shocks over a bypass shock like the radflo? Please let me know, love you guys!
@RecklessWrenchGarage5 жыл бұрын
A bypass shock has a totally different purpose than a coilover shock. Coilovers’s support vehicle weight and control motion, bypasses control motion at tunable parts of the suspension travel.
@razorsazors5 жыл бұрын
@@RecklessWrenchGarage I worded that poorly. I guess what I mean is why spend money on premium coilovers instead of getting cheaper ones that support weight but do a bad job of actually dampening and running radflo. Is it better to run high quality coilovers instead of cheaper coilovers and bypass shocks?
@RecklessWrenchGarage5 жыл бұрын
I would not say that the king coilovers only support weight but do a bad job dampening. A single coilover shock will never dampen as good as a bypass shock. A bypass shock has its place in racing and going fast. This truck will not race and will only occasionally see medium speed off-road. Also, radflo shocks are priced higher than what king shocks are. I had many reasons for choosing the king coilovers, filthy motorsports has several good videos on them.

@@razorsazors your arm chair pre running bro. tuning is what is more important. a tuned CO will work just fine. vehicle weight and driving style is what dictates if it needs bypass's or not. most people that have them dont need them if that makes any sense.

Hey brother you think you can help me out and direct me the rite way I currently have a dirt logic 6 inch lift on a 08 gmc 2500hd diesel and I realy want to convert to coil over kings but I’m having trouble finding the the rite conversion kit and I’m not sure if it’ll just be cheaper to drop my lift to a 2.5 lift and buy coil overs then
@RecklessWrenchGarage4 жыл бұрын
Currently, the only place I’m aware of that offers a conversion kit for the 2500HD is BDS. I was looking into it for the 05 Suburban and the 03 Silverado I have.

@g__wizz5 жыл бұрын
cry about it. its not a kia. thats the price, but the best way to explain a 2.5 or larger shock is its basically the equivalent of a built motor in your car but for your suspension. plus the fab for install generally costs more than that lol. but its worth it. every penny.

wrong guy... gets stiffer as shaft speeds increase. bypass shocks are position sensitive, those kings are velocity sensitive shocks.
@RecklessWrenchGarage5 жыл бұрын
As the shock goes through travel the spring rate will change when the dual rate slider contacts the slider stop. That is what was said in the video, not that a coilover acts like a bypass.
