It's all fantastic. The dynamics are unprecedented in rock. And yes, Mr Lake's vocals are sublime, as they would continue to be for so many years and so many recordings.

As I read some of the comments here they certainly made me relate. I am now 73 years old, a lifelong guitarist and musician. Music was always the center of my universe since I was about 4 years old and my sister would bring home the old 45 RPM records. She would have me sit with her while we listened to this new kind of music called Rock and Roll. I played in my bands since age 14 and was considered a Hippie. I first heard King Crimson, and Greg Lake immediately when they released this incredible and awesome piece of work. I still have it in my old vinyl collection. I taught my eldest son to play guitar when he was 12 years old. He went on to become a rather famous guitarist and musician. His first group signed with Island Records in 2002, MTV video in the top 20, toured all over the US and Canada...Then he formed his own band, wrote all the songs, played guitar and sang. He named this group Jade Lemons and the Crimson Lust! So the legacy continues. Jade died April 6th 2016. My heart is broken forever, but he lives on in his music. They all do.

I am a 68 year old paraplegic, paralyzed doing what I loved the most, skiing. Music has always been a huge part of my life, especially extended works. Terrapin Station, Mountain Jam, King Crimson, Tubular Bells, too many to list. Now I listen with an entirely different perspective. My mind dissolves into the magic I'm listening to and it brings me back to a time when entering adulthood, anything was possible with your future life. No regrets with where I have arrived. The one constant throughout has been music. The stories of loved ones lost really touched me. I grieve your loss and wish you comfort, knowing your love of music helps you through heartbreaking times. Love and peace to all of you.

I went nearly completely paralyzed for a while from a disc herniation in my spine, and no one did anything. Felt like surgery without anesthesia. Ended up going 10 days without food, used a cane to drive from ER to ER from doc to doc, and people laughed at me while I begged for help. Idiot. Was left partially paralyzed, but can still walk, and no one cares. Wish I could go to the Mayo clinic before another disc herniates and I starve to death in a puddle of bodily fluids in a ditch like last time.

I love king Crimson, especially this song. I remember using it for a D&D inspiration, the purple piper was a maddened bard, the black queen an evil necromancer, the crimson king a violent tyrant, the Gardener an execution, the patterned juggler juggled skulls and the yellow jester a puppeteer using creepy marionettes. The reality: Island-Atlantic owned the rights to these early albums. Fripp probably had to buy the rights back from them. People are way too quick to put the blame on the artists, but the standard for signing on a record label, was to give the rights to their songs to the company. You had to hold out, and insist on retaining the rights, like Ray Charles did. But most bands didn't, they were just excited to get a record deal, and would do whatever, not knowing until later how they had been screwed.

I got this album in my home town in 1980. Unfortunately it was without a cover. Only LP. Though it wasn't new it impressed me and my friends immensly. Someone told such legend about that band-King Crimson-"They could record only one album and died in the air crash". That's why the song" Epitaph" was taken by us as a farewell to the dead musicians. The rusted chains of prison moons Are shattered by the sun I walk a road, horizons change The tournament's begun The purple piper plays his tune The choir softly sing Three lullabies in an ancient tongue For the court of the Crimson King The keeper of the city keys Put shutters on the dreams I wait outside the pilgrims' door With insufficient schemes The black queen chants the funeral march The cracked brass bells will ring To summon back the fire witch To the court of the Crimson King The gardener plants an evergreen Whilst trampling on a flower I chase the wind of a prism ship To taste the sweet and sour The pattern juggler lifts his hand The orchestra begin As slowly turns the grinding wheel In the court of the Crimson King On soft gray mornings widows cry The wise men share a joke I run to grasp divining signs To satisfy the hoax The yellow jester does not play But gently pulls the strings And smiles as the puppets dance In the court of the Crimson King

He was the only constant through the bands history..I guess that when there was music to be played..Acrylic Prism would appear to play it .Rest in peace my friend..

While I did find this song because of JoJo, I think it's a masterclass in ambience. It creates a feeling of dread that's incredibly hard to recreate, but it doesn't succumb to dissonance to achieve that. It's a beautiful piece which brings to mind feelings of grimdark fantasy.

It's literally the only reason why the dark tower exists, this song is pure lovecraftian horror the crimson king is an eregore a dark thought dreamt one day. A being of pure malice and agony, we've been in his court a long time and there is no way out. I also love how childish this song is its like a lullaby. It's so insulting to the listener but that's like my favorite thing about the song. Sorry I don't mean to dump all this on you but I truly believe this is one of the greatest songs ever written. I would honestly love if he was used in a more serious man very effective villain, don't get me wrong I love him in Jojo buy he is but a man, the real crimson king is a horrid manifestation. If we were to make an arc out of this album the only people capable of fighting against him would be the schizoid man and the moon child but that's like some really nerdy shit that I don't think anyone would take seriously lmao

@@sad-death I missed this entirely, I'm not really into KC but this song is legendary for prog rock itself and the whole movement, like Genesis and Yes, the earliest British prog, industrial was born through these songs, and ppl didn't even have categories defined yet for these sounds, so they broke them down in chord structures, beats, and instruments, ppl are so stupid with their boxing in and labeling of things, so they have to categorize everything, this album was known to be the most confusing for those types of people, kind of like mr bungle came out of no where, even early rap music was the same, they defied defining. So reading your comment, and others finding this material by JoJo and other quotes in the comments tells me this generation gets it, although I never heard of JoJo 😂

@@alltimegamerpro2538 A guy With A Dead Channel here, the joke here is that children commonly scream whenever injected. In popular meme culture it is common to add a screaming effect after the format, hence implying that the singer is like a child being injected with a needle, however in this case it is impossible to add an image or clip without ruining the joke, therefore in memes on youtube timestamps are the preferred method of replacing the left out images and are arguably better as you will not be able to predict what will come next. N this case the timestamp implies that the singer in which sings the lyrics to this song is a child being injected with a needle and screaming with agony and fear at the thought of it. A guy With A Dead Channel out.

Stairway to heaven is nonsense, King Crimson blows zeppelin out of the water. Fact, not opinion.

I heard King Crimson for the first time when I was 15 years old. We passed each other a joint and were well stoned and this music was simply the greatest! Today I'm 70 and I still love it and will forever

@@aesophspade7510 I do. Especially people who don't live in the UK or the US who aren't aware of King Crimson because they aren't on major streaming services. Like I only found out where I can buy their music a month ago and I've been aware of this band for 2 years

Just a wonderful memory... Late October '75, crossing the quad at my college, walking past the old stone Kirkpatrick Chapel on a dark, windy night. One of the stained glass windows was open, and I heard THIS... Magical! Guess one of the choir members brought it in... It blew me away and I never stopped loving this band.

My older brother had this lp, I was around 11 the first time I heard it. It was great then like it is today at 65. Such a beautiful song. It was great having an older brother that grew up in the 60s. I was exposed to such awesome music and then my music of the 70s. What a great time it was to grow up in.

My dad passed away fighting covid. It was his favorite song. Now I just realized why she is so beautiful, sad, scary. This song will be played in my heart forever. Rest in peace, Dad. Edit: THANK YOU ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't even know how to describe this song. It's sorrowful, hopeless, and yet so beautiful. The lyrics are enigmatic, and just... magnetic. No better way to describe it. Genuinely one of the best songs I've ever listened to
