It surprises me that this was from 1969, there was nothing really this technical at the time besides maybe Zappa, but still he wasn't as heavy as this was. Edit: When I say "technical" I mean switching time signatures on a whim, speeding up and slowing down at random, super complex song structures and guitar lines, noise coming in-and-out of nowhere, can only recall Zappa and some jazz musicians doing this stuff at the time, but these guys merged it with hard rock and turned it into something new. Ahh, the mother of progressive rock music. Scary beginning, heavy fucking song. Many were listening, Genesis, Yes, the still evolving Pink Floyd, Gong, Hatfield and the North, young kids from Canada, Geddy, Alex, Neil, John McLaughlin, endless list goes through Radiohead and Muse too. What an influential album. And then there is that cover. Mom made me take it off my wall.

@pimposki62323 жыл бұрын
weirdly enough, radiohead hated prog and saw it as self indulgent trash. they grew up on punk and early alternative rock, so i suppose that might explain it. thom apparently respects pink floyd and likes a couple of their songs, and according to jonny meddle is the only good prog album ever (and that, during his quest to find a good prog album, he heard genesis and, despite not liking it, decided to steal the sound of the mellotron and use it all over OK computer), but otherwise they all hate prog apparently. around the bends/ok computer they were semi-frequently called "punk floyd" or otherwise compared to them, despite not being into prog at all, which i find pretty funny

Actually, Robert, if you do read this, I'll second the motion. Mr Rick Beato's videos are purely appreciative and are made for entirely educational purposes. He taught jazz guitar at University when he was younger and later became a producer. His channel, called Everything Music, is dedicated to celebrating the technical aspects of creating, and the emotional impacts of, many modern classics, such as your track above. Indeed the album "In The Court Of The Crimson King" featured in his "Top 20 Best Debut Albums Ever!" recently. Unfortunately he was unable to delve deeply into a discussion about the hows and whys because the small 9 second excerpt he chose to edit into his video (as a reference) was blocked by youtube on behalf of your management company. I can understand that but I do believe that in this instance it would have been apropos to an even fuller appreciation of the track and its place in the history of music to have allowed Rick this one pass. In fact, to reiterate the point above; I believe it would be of service the the legacy of King Crimson to allow him to produce one of his "What makes this song great?!" videos about any of the King Crimson library. I for one would be delighted to watch it!
