@@hackupboulders Okay. Well Bowie was living and recording in Berlin and just finished his new album that had our friend Fripp playing lead guitar on it. But Fripp wasn't available for the tour. So Bowie's collaborator at the time, Brian Eno, suggested that Bowie check out the new guitarist in Zappa's band who was coming to town. Bowie and Eno went to the show and loved what he heard in Belew. According to Belew, Bowie came back stage while Zappa was soloing on stage and the rest of the band was on break and offered Belew the job. They discussed things further in secret at a Berlin restuarant after the show. While they were dining, Zappa and the band came in and sat right at the next table! So the whole time, Belew said every time Bowie tried to reason with and talk to Zappa, all he did was respond with "Fuck you, Captain Tom". "But Frank..." "Fuck you, Captain Tom." That was the whole conversation. Belew said despite that, he remained good friends with Zappa right until he died in 93.

At 16, I had a weekend job working in a supermarket. With the money I earned I attempted to expand my musical horizon. So occasionally, I would buy albums by bands I didn't know, but had read an appealing 5-star review of. The Dutch magazine 'Muziek Express' published such review of a band called 'King Crimson' who released this shiny red album called 'Discipline'. I went out and bought it (ten bucks) and could not believe my ears. I knew Bill Bruford of his "YES" days, and had always loved his playing. But this was a few steps up. Loved Belew's guitar work, loved Fripp's obnoxiousness, loved Levin's stick sound, what was there to NOT love? One week later I was rewarded, when I took a cassette tape of 'Discipline' to my school, and played it LOUD on Friday afternoon in the school's cantina (yes, it was that kind of school, early 1980's you know) and saw The Most Beautiful Girl of my class get up and dance to 'Elephant Talk' before my very eyes. SO beautifully, the moment almost made me cry.

I once saw King Crimson by chance at Dour Festival in Belgium in 2001. I was there to see the Melvins and remember standing in a field, frozen and mesmerized for more than an hour watching King Crimson. Since then I stored KC in my mind as great musicians, but it took me another 20 years to finally really start listening to their music. I think it's a mature sound perhaps and some of the soundscapes can be a barrier for casual listeners. Today, those same endless soundscapes and all these live performances aren't a barrier but a treasure trove that I can listen to again and again and hear something new. I use it as background for my creative writing. Some of their songs, like starless, epitaph, etc are absolute masterpieces. They are so catchy but also raw at the same time, and utterly unique. I used to love listening to Pink Floyd, but after a short while, you know all their songs inside out and the structure feels repetitive. It doesn't stimulate my brain which needs surprise. Epitaph, if I am not mistaken, was released in 1969? That is crazy. It sounds so much better than anything produced by bands like Led Zeppelin (yawn), Pink Floyd, or Black Sabbath. I love the vocals too. I have come to the conviction that KC is the best music band of all time, and they've been doing this for more than half a century. Ask anyone on the street and they will hum stairway to heaven, dark side of the moon, but will likely never have heard of KC, which just makes the whole listening experience more private and special. For someone bored of popular music, I am glad I have rediscovered KC. This could become my soundtrack for the next decade. PS. I am guessing Thom Yorke studied Adrian Belew. His performance here is captivating. I need to start discovering all the KC formations over the years.

You ain't seen nothing yet. Every incarnation of this band over the years brought something wildly different, but equally magnificent to the table. And you never can be fully prepared for the power of their live presence. Make it a priority to go see them when they start touring again. A live show is the real King Crimson experience.

Welcome! I'm sure it won't be your last time listening to them. This is an exceptional album and concert to start with. I saw them play this concert twice. First night in Toronto Ontario and then drove all night to catch them play in Quebec, Camp Fortune. So blessed to have this pop up on my feed this morning. Enjoy! Peace, love, health and harmony be with you. ✌❤🇬🇧🎶🎸👍 🇨🇦🐈

Do you really think so? I was never a fan of Yes or Genesis anyway! but for Crimson to have got weirder ? more complex perhaps and a very different musical experience these days, but weirder? No. You need to go much further afield to find weirder, like Art Zoid and Univers Zero to even define weird. You may like to see something I discovered about ten days ago, it is called "Missa Furiosa" by Zabiotzeff and crew ( ex of Art Zoid) live 2002, the musical genre is RIO [ Rock In Opposition ]. I have all Crimson's output up to Three of a Perfect Pair, but lost interest after that, but this is ok. Cheers

I saw them (for the first time) on this tour - in 84 I was only familiar with "In the Court..." as it was my father's album. They opened their show in Detroit with "Red" - good times!

I was introduced to King Crimson by an old girlfriend with "In The Court" and loved it as I was already a fan of ELP and Greg Lakes vocals. When this line-up came along with "Discipline" I was hooked by this period with Belew and the following "Beat" and "Three of a Perfect Pair" albums. Incredible!

Ahhh Bill just blows my mind with his flawless technique! l dont think l've heard another drummer play such cool beats! He's tricky and he's all wrist! The guy probably has _no_ rotator cuff problems! Been my favourite drummer all me life! Apparently he's ''Dr'' Bill Bruford now!? Ha! He'll always just be ''Bruf'' to me! Seen him live three times.

I was fortunate to see all three tours with this lineup. In between Bill did a tour with Patrick Moraz, Music For Piano and Drums was the album they were promoting. It was a small venue in Philly. We were some of the first in the door. I grabbed a bar stool and placed it in front of Bill. The guy was amazing. I remember Patrick's keyboard stopped working in the middle of one song. Bill kept on playing the entire time. He was switching drums sounds from the Simmons control panel, improvising until they got the keyboards to work again.

I was there that night too. At the band shell at the CNE. After that show I jumped on a bus and went to Quebec to see them the next night at a ski hill, Camp Fortune. I must say the second night they were more relaxed and some how better, playing longer! The crowd was wild and more intune to them too. Interesting experience! It was phenomenal to get to have that opportunity to see them back to back like that. The best two concerts I've ever seen, and I've been to several! ✌❤🇬🇧🎸🥁🎶👍🙏 🇨🇦🐈
