For me, Abigail is #1 I wore out two albums and a cassette when it first came out. I think there's a reason KD did a tour where he featured the entire album start to finish, between the songs/story and stage show to go with it, it can't be topped. It was also a huge influence on me as a big horror fan to the point when I wrote my first novel in 2016(late bloomer what can I say?) I named it and its main character Abigail.

Them has been in my top 5 albums of all time since I first heard it, back in the mid-90's, and in my opinion Andy/Pete are the best guitar duo of the 80's because of their work on 'Them'. Also Herb's solo in The Exorcist is one of my all time fave solo's. But your rankings were redeemed by putting The Eye up top. The Eye is so great, and one of my faves too. My rankings. 1. 'Them' 2. As a long time fan of the Goth Rock genre, Spider's Lullabye is the album that got me hooked onto King Diamond. I purchased 'The Puppet Master' a little over a year ago and I'd place it at #4 as I think it supersedes Spider's Lullabye. Rarely, if ever, do I agree with your rankings, but one thing I can say is that there never seems to be any rhyme or reason to your opinions in these rankings. There are so many things to factor into the equation when you're attempting to measure each individual leg of the career of a band that's been cutting records for 35 years, but you never give any specifics when it comes to how you gauge these albums and how you weigh one against the others. Just because there are ten or twelve songs on a particular record that happened to be recorded during the same sessions, that doesn't necessarily mean that each and every single one of them is going to have the same sound or feel. You have to weigh each record against itself if you're going to attempt to weigh the songs on that record against the songs on another record, but you never provide any information about what makes a song stand out. With King Diamond, the songs are so intricate and complex - there are so many changes, that it's really more about how well the end result comes together than it is about the individual parts. Aside from the absolutely stellar guitar work, there's the production quality to be considered - some records just sound a whole lot better than others, even of the material featured on that album isn't as strong or as good. And it would be silly to ignore the fact that the story each album is structured around is going to have a big impact on the music. It's not always the case, but the strength of the story - and the strength of the particular portion of the story that any given song deals with is going to have an effect on the power and intensity of the song. That's not true for every band, but it's a general rule of thumb for King Diamond. Everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion. Taste is subjective, and thus there's bound to be a wide variety of different opinions when it comes to preferences, and that's perfectly understandable, but let's be honest - you're ranking what is not "arguably" the strongest string of consecutive releases in the band's history, but what is INDISPUTABLY the strongest string of consecutive releases in a way that proves that whatever criteria you're using to make these judgments is just seriously and inherently flawed. Instead of ranking "Abigail", "Them", and "Conspiracy" #1, #2, and #3 where they belong, you have all of them ranked #4 and below. That's insane. Even King Diamond and Andy LaRocque themselves would find that to be laughable. And while "The Eye" is a great record and features some of the best technical guitar work in the band's history, it feels very artificial. The guitars are much too bright, the drums don't sound authentic, and the record on the whole lacks that in-your-face atmosphere that all of the first four releases had to them. "The Eye" is definitely the last installment in the classic era of the band's history, and I wouldn't argue that it's the weakest musically, but it definitely lacks the oomph and the charm the others have. You call "The Spider's Lullabye" 'consistent.' In what way is the record 'consistent'? It's anything but. There was a five year gap between "The Eye" and "The Spider's Lullabye." During that time Mercyful Fate reformed and released not one but two albums and they toured for both of them. "The Spider's Lullabye" is not a consistent record at all. In fact, it's all over the place. It was the first album since "Fatal Portrait" that didn't revolve around a single story, and the story that connects the back half of the record is by far the silliest and most forgettable King Diamond storyline of all time. Spiders. Scary. Wow. The horror. And there's plenty of filler to be found. It's the most un-King Diamond sounding album of the man's career. The songs are extremely simple, bare-bones, even to the point of being boring. Yet you claim it's a superior offering to "The Graveyard", a record that's got fantastic production quality, a beautifully, hauntingly dark feel and tone. Again, any diehard King Diamond fanatic who has listened to all of these records hundreds upon hundreds of times would find that to be extremely strange. I agree that "The Puppet Master" is the band's strongest offering of the millennium, but I certainly wouldn't elevate it above the classic first five releases. I'll also agree that while I used to be a big defender of "Voodoo" I've come to accept that it's nowhere near as good as I wanted to believe it was. There's a special quality about it, it's got character for days, but I think overall it's just too far removed from the tried and true formula of what works for the band. At the end of the day I think it would just be nice to offer a little more information so that your viewers can understand where you're coming from. It's not like we were cheated or anything - you said "I'm going to rank all of the albums", and that's exactly what you did, but comparing "Fatal Portrait" to "Give Me Your Soul... Please" is akin to comparing cheese to chocolate. How does one go about it? Sure, it's possible, we do it all the time in everyday life, but we're here to hear how YOU do it. Thanks for reading and I'll keep watching. All hail the KING!

Puppet Master and Eye need to drop rank a bit. Abigail is by far the best, it's got the most high quality songwriting. Not just saying that because it's a popular one. Puppet master is Kings best work after 1990. I also enjoyed House of God, but graveyard, spiders, and even Abigail 2 are meh.

Ranking his albums is blasphemy. King hasnt bad album. Possible the only one metal artist constant all his career . Every his album is diamond, unique, irredeemable. Asking which his album is best or worst is as asking which of your children you love more. His albums are like collection of 12 pearls on necklace.
