Atomic Age and Stone Age collide when a new planet appears in our solar system, within sight of Earth, prompting a two-man, two-woman rocket flight that finds giant animals and reptiles, some reminiscent of our planet's prehistoric monsters. A key early low budget Bert I. Gordon production with the "prehistoric monsters" played by a magnified iguana and other lizards!
Cast: William Bryant, Wanda Curtis, Douglas Henderson, Patti Gallagher, Marvin Miller (Narrator)
Director: Burt I. Gordon

It's amazing what you can do with some old sets, some old costumes, some old V2 footage and lots of stock footage. A story that gets right to the point and is all done in 63 mins. Loved it!

@@Estes705 - And they used to be so hard to find here in Australia before the internet. I was shocked, shocked I tell you, to see "The Giant Claw" on late night TV back in the late 80s. I'd seen clips from it, but never the whole movie. goodness knows who decided to program it. TV stations in Australia have never tried to accomodate the SF lover.

They could have paid for the entire space program without taking a dime from taxpayers, if they had just charged fees for every time that V2 footage was used in sci-fi movies. 😊

In 1974 I was sick at home with no school and I walked into my parents room and put on the big TV and KING DINOSAUR was on! It was the daily movie on channel 11 in Los Angeles. It was even introduced by a host in a yellow sweater sitting in a big chair by a fireplace, all this for KING DINOSAUR!! and the whole movie was only an hour! It was ridiculous, silly and dumb, I loved EVERY minute of it!!

Within 3 minutes I knew I was going to like this movie. First astronomers didn't see the planet until it was close by and second they had to build the rocket so it could withstand the pressure found in outer space.

Bert I. Gordon ranks somewhere between Ed Wood and Roger Corman. The movie posters for Gordon's films were better than the films. These films take us back to the old time Saturday Kids Matinee. Lottsa fun back then.

The pressures found in outer space? I think they're getting outer space confused with undersea. Perhaps we need to call Lloyd Bridges. 😮

What did they think the potato bug was going to do to them? Definitely very cheesy👍👍, top marks. To get the full impact, you have to pretend you're about 9 and in a station wagon with the family and friends on buck night or carload Thursday.

Where to start? Lippert Studios where the word quality is not in our vocabulary (but some fun is.) Love the jaunty music during the montages. The V2 was the go to rocket during this time period despite not being interstellar. Explorers who set off without blazing a trail. Snake, scream bang bang. Still watching, though, aren't I?

I can't understand why they didn't help that poor alligator around the 26 minute mark! First it gets attacked by a weird bipedal alien (Ralph), who stabs it multiple times with his knife. Then they do nothing to help it. Shocking. *** A few minutes later: Another unprovoked attack! This time Ralph has assaulted a large insect. Make that a very large insect. He shoots it several times, killing it. What is wrong with these people? *** A few minutes after that: Well, at least they're treating "Joe" kindly. What is Joe? Some kind of marsupial? *** Women had one standard way of dealing with stressful situations back when this movie was made. Scream, scream, scream!!! And tangle their hands in their own hair while screaming. It doesn't seem like it would help much if you stop to think about it. Men were there to shoot at things, make clumsy passes at the gals, and tough it out when the going got tough. *** Okay, so, let's take a little trip to that island. Hmm. Seems kind of barren, but that doesn't stop the unseen orchestra from playing, just like they've been doing all through the movie. That was how classical musicians stayed employed back then. They played behind all the movie footage. Audiences must have expected that, I suppose. *** Uh-oh! A giant iguana. What do we do now? I know, let's shoot at it! Oops. It got mad. Who could have predicted that? Now they're trapped in a cave and the iguana is out for blood! *** Well, what do you know....here comes a baby alligator, pretending to be a huge dinosaur! And....he's gotten into a massive grudge fight with the iguana! "Can't we all just get along?" I guess not. This doesn't look good...but help is on the way! Geez, the baby alligator didn't make out so well, but he's got a tag team partner...some kind of lizard. A skink? A monitor lizard? Well, I'm not sure, but here we go with round 2. Come on, Skink, use the Camel Clutch!!! So, our fearless four have finally gotten away from the giant lizards, and they've decided to "bring civilization" to the new planet....by setting off an atomic bomb on the island! One thing is 100% sure...........these people are Americans! Now that they've made the place "safe for democracy" by blowing it up, everything is gonna be peachy keen. I predict that in ten years time there will be a McDonald's and a Burger King every few miles, and Planet Nova will finally be "civilized". Yessiree! Roll the credits, Jack. Another happy ending. 😄

Boy, a person really has to suspend reality for this one. Jet engines, not rockets, to travel out of Earth's atmosphere and gravity, pressures in outer space, when outer space is almost a perfect vacuum, a fission reactor into space, back then, and etc.??? That's just the first 5 minutes. They did mention rockets, a couple of minutes later. Cashmere sweater, skirt and necklace, beauty shop hair, while picking rocks, as a geologist???

Since the 1950s when I first noticed such things I have loathed women in these sort of pictures. disaster films and most especially in westerns. Audio was great - didn't have to use the CCs.
