The way Jared Harris acts that coughing fit is incredible. The first time I saw it i forgot it was an actor playing a part and for a moment got really concerned that King George was so unwell 😧 😂 That is true talent right there. Obviously in the genes 😄

It didn't help.. but he had issues from the early childhood abuse as well. With the stress of WW1 and then the unimaginable stress of WW2 and the blitz, I fear King George was destined for a short reign. He's one of my favorite monarchs because he cared. This depiction of him and the King's Speech are amazing.

@@TrevorJNagyAnd HUMAN. He, in the eyes of this Millennial lady, was the first monarch to be caring, sensitive, and willing to put on the line that which was demanded from the British people.

He was an amazing human being too, very kind and humane. He would have been a great king and Elizabeth could have had more time being just an adult with kids, not the Queen

@@jasonkoch3182 Actually they were. in the mid 1930s, German scientists had done a large and comprehensive study on the effects of smoking and the links to various diseases such as cancer, respiratory and cardiac issues. Hitler detested smoking, didn't allow it in his presence and discouraged it in the military, although during the war, it was largely ignored. The study became archived during the war and after the war, the Allies came across the study. The tobacco and cigarette lobbies (particularly in the U.S.) suppressed the study as "Nazi Science". When the anti smoking movement gained traction, much of the work in the original study was the foundation for "discovering" the effects of smoking on health.

The King softly whispering Charles trying to get the child to stop interrupting his parents is hilarious and adorable on many levels. One, he might be King but he's still a Papa, and sometimes kids that small don't listen. Two, that's the current King of England he's whispering too. 😹

No stammer because he was w family. It is common for many people who stammer to most often manifest it when speaking publicly, in front of strangers and in any stressful situations. In the US there was a country singer who stammered a lot - unless he was singing.

Entirely insane statement: "They won't know, they're too young to notice". Love Elizabeth but by gosh those kids were doomed from the get go. Thank god Diana came along and taught the Royal Family how doting a parent is supposed to be.
@sleepysalsw
@sleepysalsw 4 ай бұрын
Nothing insane about that statement. Just different era, and therefore different parenting styles/standard. Just because it does not conform to modern parenting style doesn't make it "insane". Understand the history of English aristocratic cultural history would be beneficial to you.

@@sleepysalsw No that's not insightful. Elizabeth was a terrible parent, by royal or noble or commoner standards. The scene is foreshadowing of how negligent a parent she will become. She preferred pets to children.

I was glad that they had Philip confront her "tidy and sensible" helmet haircut that she wore for the rest of her life. He implied that it was a form of birth control. 😄😅😃😆 Tidy and sensible are hardly adjectives that stir the loins. 😄😅😃😆 That awful haircut was a mistake she carried for the rest of her life. Lol Smh. She could have had any hairstyle she wanted. She committed to the Hideous Helmet look.

Is it just me, or is Charles portrayed as one needy kid? That was barely ten seconds before Charles was after his father again! That, plus an earlier episode where Philip told Charles to stay, but as soon as Elizabeth began walking up the palace steps there was Charles trying to follow her! And Elizabeth thinks THAT kid won't notice if they're gone for months?!
@cheersbloom

Philip seemed more concerned here about leaving kids alone for months. Elizabeth didn’t seem to care - seems like she was cold with kids from the beginning even before becoming Queen
@IndependentConversations
@IndependentConversations 4 ай бұрын
It's not that she was cold it's a matter of privilege differences. Elizabeth was used to this. Her and Margaret lived at winsor Castle for 5 years for safe keeping during World War II. She would be often in care of nannies because they were brought up that it was in service to something greater . Phillip was royal but an exiled royal
@cherylhulting1301
@cherylhulting1301 3 ай бұрын
It's not that she doesn't care. But in Elizabeth's era royal children were heavily cared for by nannies. Moreover, she doted on her father and is quite aware of the importance of the King asking her to undertake this tour. She absolutely would not want to let him down.
@Pdmc-vu5gj

@tsrgoinc
@tsrgoinc Ай бұрын
Yeah but that upbringing makes you cold if thats all you know, pets are so much easier, a plate of food, a belly rub and a walk and their love is unrequited, as we all know it not that easy with children. If you are raised at arms length and in that situation you probably won’t do anything different!
@tonemarieantonsen1597
@tonemarieantonsen1597 6 күн бұрын
I would rather call it a little bit distant. She loved all of her children, but she was raised by nannies as royal children always were . She wouldn't choose to get 4 children if she didn't care about children. Elizabeth was more hands-on with Andrew and Edward .

Never gets a mention, but King George and the Duke of Edinburgh were 2nd cousins (through Christian IX of Denmark). Doesn't fit the narrative of Philip being "an outsider"
