something similar happened to me with a friend. I taken him by surprise to a show of them in Madrid. My friend knew absolutely nothing about them and it was a gift for their wedding a week later. We both ended up drunk, lost, and with a drumstick each ... that my friend left behind in a taxi on the way home.
