I don't get it either. If the drummers played different parts, rather than playing essentially the same thing here, then I might get it. The absurdity value to it is kinda fun, though.

Since I live in the Middle East, I have been listening to the micro-tone (quarter tone) scales for 40 years now! But of course I enjoy listening to western classical music, pop music...etc. Anyway, I have always been wondering if there was a way that the quarter tone is introduced to the rest of the world, so they would appreciate its beauty. The "King Gizzard" band was the answer to my dream. Thanks KING GIZZARD! I LOVE YOU GUYS!
@anidemolimacnauj
@anidemolimacnauj 4 жыл бұрын
Hey Ayad, pretty much most musical traditions have explored music outside the somewhat standard 12 tone equal temperament including western classical and popular. Quarter tone bends are extremely common in blues and blues-rock guitar; anyone who has ever listened to Led Zeppelin has been introduced to quarter tone changes in pitch. In the vein you discuss, System of a Down incorporates microtonal intervals in their singed melodies. Out of extreme familiarity with equal temperament it is hard to presume that most people would embrace ‘heavily microtonal’ music, specially the less ‘delicate’ or subtle one. I also don’t know up to what point untrained ears can pick up changes in pitch as to deem them ‘out of tune’ so in some cases there might not be a meaningful distinction between equal temperament and other tuning systems. I guess before autotune a big chunk of large audience pop music was microtonal

King gizz is by far the best band of the past 20 years. No other band in 20 years has a discography this consistent or this good. For Christ’s sake they pumped out 5 albums in 2017, all of which were psychedelic rock masterpiece. Name one other band you know that can do that, I dare you.

The Gizz are one of the best rock'n'roll bands in the world. Wholy fuck. Doctor, I think I have an addiction. I don't think I can tell a single one of their thousand songs that I do not like. Just brilliant. Every album is different and yet I keep on listening over and over again. I've only had that with 3 other bands in my life: STRFKR, Portugal. The Man and Eagles of Death Metal. I put on all of their discographies on a infinite loop and they keep on playing. Bloody love all of them. Long live rock'n'roll.

They started experimenting with a custom microtonal guitar their friend Zak made for Stu.The guitar was modified to play in 24-TET tuning and could only be played with other microtonal instruments. They modified and used electric guitars, basses, keyboards and harmonica as well as a turkish horn called a Zurna for this album. So sick! 👌

The drummers play off each other, (i wish they did more poly rhythm stuff actually) and play different kits with different heads that are striked with different forced dynamics- it's more than sounding bigger. the stereo effect and minor lag on the synchronized drum rolls-- amazing. anyone who's played out of 2 amps simultaneously knows it sounds better and different than 1 amp really loud. and the microtones they are capable of on those modded guitars would be damn near impossible to recreate- with 4 string players none the less not to mention harmonizing with a modded synth as well !?! it's not just bending a string, there are frequencies in there that are extremely unique- just listen to turkish folk music- lot more going on than bending notes... I don't know if ANYONE has EVER put together an ensemble like this. pure genius. I can't imagine the hrs of work they put in.

Great band, wish the two drummers would do different things like one play in 7/4 while the other plays in 5/4. It would be really cool. Knowing them they would make an album like that to give it a African feel rhythm. Still props to them.
