Lately I think of that one pastor whose name I am blanking on. Evangelical revival type dude. Started saying there was a witch in his congregation. Turned out it was more a church politics issue and he decided to drive out people working in the church in a power consolidation move by functionally threatening them and definitely endangering them with his petty shenanigans.

You’re talking about the guy that said there were 3 witches in the room right then and he was gonna tell their names, addresses and phone numbers from the pulpit? The same guy that said if anyone entered wearing a mask they would ask them to leave because they don’t “play democrat games” and also had trouble with some members and when they left he called around to other churches in the area to warn them about that family and maybe accused them of being witches or demon possessed, I don’t exactly remember now

I think we can forgive Wycliffe for not translating it as "sorceress", since the word may not have existed in English when he was doing his work. Apparently it entered the language from Norman French in the late 14th century, which is exactly when the Wycliffe Bible was created.

I actually watched a video by a Western Ceremonial Magician about that. It was Pharmakeia or pharmacy, medicine etc. in the Bible. Apologist will say of course witches' had their potions herbs and all and that's what they were condemning but IDK. Wise Women and Men all over the world grew herbs and used them to heal people. Far as magick, look at any Catholic Mass or even Baptist services, they are all practicing Magick. The Catholics dress in robes, carry a magick wand (septure), burns incense and chant incantations hoping divine powers will do what they command and also partake in cannibalisms (communion, what a word). It seems like in Magick they have a eucharist but one that is life affirming not eating and drinking a man/God but of salt, bread and wine. Speaking of Catholics, I would like to hear Dan's thoughts about Dagon. Jordan Maxwell spoke a lot about the Pope's Mitar looking like a fish head in honor of Dagon who was a sea god. Is the Popes hat a nod to a Pagan god of the sea, the holy sea? Or is this something academia just poo poo's because it seems too far out there?

@@ronjones1414 In addition, looks like KJV didn't change that passage from the Bishop's bible: "Therefore the Lorde hym selfe shall geue you a token: Beholde, a virgin shall conceaue and beare a sonne, and shall call his name Emmanuel." Nor the 1599 Geneva bible: Therefore the Lord [a]himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and she shall call his name [b]Immanuel. So yeah, doesn't look like the KJV changed Isaiah there unless you include "used sources that used the long reinterepreted version of the passage."

No, this mistranslation goes back to the Septuagint, where the Hebrew 'amah' (young woman) was rendered in Greek as 'parthenos' (virgin). Since the only scripture the Israelites of Jesus' day knew was the Septuagint, that's why the author of Matthew's gospel was so eager to jump onto that mistranslation and weave Isaiah's use of the word into a supposed prophecy about Jesus' birth.

From a cultural perspective of his time, King James would have been categorized as a sodomite. The notion of gay as an alternative to straight or other social category would make very little sense to the Jacobean mindset because it implies a persistence of a behavioral trait that defies free will. I imagine King James believed he was a sodomite when he engaged in certain behaviors but could be cleansed of this temporary state of sin by confession and forgiveness. Therefore, the subjects of the Kingdom prayed for his forgiveness from his sins. HOWEVER, I was told by a history professor that what upset the English people is the King's choice for a Spanish boyfriend when a perfectly suitable English one had been rejected.

Many of these words are anachronisms, **_(THEY DIDN'T EVEN EXIST IN 1611!!!)_** It never talked about men with breasts full of milk or fathers nursing babies either, but now it does!* *Isaiah 11:6 used to say the **_"LION_** shall lie down with the "Lamb", not the **_"wolf"_** shall also dwell with the Lamb! Lion represents Jesus and wolf is associated with Satan!
