yep and sometimes you can’t even get aftermarket parts for them. I have a 2004 Honda Element though not a classic some parts have been discontinued and some aren’t available even in the aftermarket which means having to go to the junkyard. Case point trying to get HVAC Heater pipe dealer price if available around $30-40 bucks. No aftermarket available. Recycler wants $145! Lucky for me I am just trying to be proactive. Love my vehicle but at some point I would have to be realistic and get something newer but then again there’s no guarantee that parts would be readily available. May have to go back to 60’s Chevy’s😅

Welcome back. Hopefully whatever "tune up" you had to get puts you back in top form and it's good to see you back. I knew there was an explanation for your absence. Hopefully, it wasn't something that major..... We got the VIN, we win: 1 for Chevrolet, N for Caprice Classic, 67 for two door convertible, R for 400 V8, 4 for 1974 model year, Y for Wilmington, DE assembly and the rest is the production sequence. The Wilmington, DE plant operated from 1947 to 2009 and last assembled the Pontiac Solstice. Today, Amazon occupies the property and has a distribution center there. The "Comfortron" AC unit (automatic temperature control) was another option. The "Four Season" AC (RPO code C60) was what was most seen on cars with AC. Off the top of my head, the 400 V8 with two barrel was available in all states except CA in 1974, but the 400 V8 with four barrel was a CA only option. No tag, can't brag, but easy to figure out, no doubt: ST74 for 1974 model year, 1BN67 for Chevrolet (1) Caprice Classic (BN) two door convertible (67), Y for Wilmington, DE assembly, A52 for bench seat, 813 or 843 or 847 or 848 for Blue interior trim, possible 26 for Bright Blue Metallic lower exterior paint and A for White convertible top. Again, welcome back and glad to see you again.

Wilmington became a Saturn plant in '99 for the new L-series. It closed shortly after Chrysler in Newark.

1974 my parents bought a brand new Chevrolet Impala Station Wagon clamshell tailgate , greatest invention , red 400 4 Barrel once I got my driver's permit and license I flip the lid on the Breather just to hear that four-barrel Roar. Family car. My mother also had a Leadfoot. That was a really good car at replace the 1966 Chevrolet Impala. After I got out of the army I found a 71 Chevy Impala clamshell tailgate love those cars. Anyway thanks Steve I enjoyed this one love those Chevrolet's and their stock steering wheels.

My parents bought a '73 Impala wagon after a runaway Greyhound bus forced their 1970 Kingswood wagon off the road. I always thought it was too bad they couldn't wait until the '74s came out. They had a much cleaner looking front end, a whole new palette of colors, and I liked the different taillights too.

Steve, first year for the Caprice was 1965. I also remember that the advertised "400 4-bbl" was actually the 402 rat motor. The 400 mouse was only available in 2bbl, but the early ones '70-'71 had 4- bolt mains. I bought, and pulled, a 454 from a '75 convertible Caprice for $125 back in '80. The rest of the car seemed in great shape. Don't know why he junked it.

Glad you’re ok Steve. I remember what I call the hand me down years on the full size Chevys 74 to 76. With the introduction of the new Caprice in 75 the old 74 became the the Impala/Belair , Same in 76 with the introduction of rectangular headlights the 75 style became the Impala

I owned a 74 Impala that was built in Aug 1973. They all shared the same frame and platform at that time.

1974 was the only year the Impala and Bel Air had their own unique nose apart from the Caprice from 1971-76, every other year was either a slight grille variation or a hand me down from the previous year Caprice. Surprisingly the only thing on this car's nose that would interchange with a 74 Impala are the bumper and the attached bumper filler

My parents had a new 1975 Caprice Convertible - red with white interior, wire wheel covers, 454 engine, dual exhaust, automatic temperature control , F41 suspension and gauge package. It had all options and was an excellent car, however, it was traded in on a 1979 Caprice.

My parents had a '73 Impala wagon. When I was still a "junior" driver, I accidentally backed into the front of a '69 Caprice. I was not going fast for the compression bumper to work, but I put a nice dent in it. No damage at all to the '69 Caprice. Oh, and Dad found no humor in that at all.

Welcome back, Steve! Love those old Impalas and Caprices, especially the coupes and drop-tops. My parents had a maroon ‘75 Impala coupe with Cragar SS wheels, and that was a good looking car. (Fit the whole family comfortably, too.) The first new car my parents ever bought.

My buddy and I had a little car-flipping business back in the 90's in the SF Bay Area, and our "company car" was a 1974 Caprice Convertible with the 454 and turbo 400. A/C and power everything. Man, that thing was a beast! It was like a burgundy red with a kinda cream colored vinyl bench seat interior and the same off-white convertible top. As an always-California car, she had zero rust, and IIRC only had around 50k miles on it. Bringing back memories, man! Those were some fun times. We mostly bought and sold convertible classic "muscle cars", lots of cool stuff passed through our hands. We had to be two of the first car-flippers! We made money on most of them...my buddy Mike was a stickler for money, and kept track of every cent made or lost. On one car we made a whole 26 cents profit! Always had a blast, though. The Caprice was offered as a trim level for 1965, and became it's own model for 1966. I remember the discussions about gas rationing back then. Supposedly, rationing coupons had been printed, but we never used.

A friend of mine in high school back in the eighties had a '74 Caprice with the 454 he called "The Fortress". His parents gave it to him for his first car, and that thing would spin that right rear tire for days. Lost count of how many "rollbacks" we did with it (he did eventually spit the driveshaft out of it). Utterly Indestructible.

Rollbacks? Would that be like reverse slams where the car rolls backwards 10, 15 feet (on an AT) and you slam the gearshift from reverse to drive simultaneously flooring the gas? That type of abuse?

Caprice started in 65 as a 4 door hard top only. Sort of like a 4 door SS at the top of the line. In 66 it gained a 2 door hard top also.

I bought a 73 Caprice convertible, it had the 400 2bbl. With some careful tuning I got the mileage from 11 to 14 mpg. 8( I bought the car for $1500. All the mid 70's GM convertibles used a weird folding top mechanism. Instead of the usual 3 pieces for each side of the top that folded up on top of each other, there were only 2 on each side. As it started folding, the center hinge area and the arms went way in to the center of the car. I think the previous owner thought the top was broken and sold it cheap.
