Thanks! I've seen every John Wayne movie ever made, and I never get tired pf seeing them. I've seen this movie at least four or five times, maybe more, but now people on youtube want to charge you to see John Wayne's early B Westerns, He's my all time favorite actor, but I will not pay to see B westerns I've watched for years for free.

This is a fine B-western -- good tight story and the Duke once again proves he already had command of the screen well before STAGECOACH.

Stiles was played by veteran actor Cy Kendall (1898 - 1953) - a prolific actor. He appeared in 15 films just in the year 1940 alone! Wikipedia: Cyrus Kendall was an American film actor. He appeared in more than 140 films between 1935 and 1950. Kendall's heavy-set, square-jawed appearance and deep voice were perfect for wiseguy roles such as policemen and police chiefs, wardens, military officers, bartenders, reporters, and mobsters.

Check out the horse and rider crash (unscripted, ofcourse) at approximately minute 26. Also they must have used black powder in their blank cartridges so that the shooting would be more visible, hence more dramatic. Fascinating craft of cinema production. Thanks!

@@westernrider100 That was neat to see. I cannot think of any other movies where such an obvious situation happened. Maybe the director thought it would not be noticed by the audiences, or maybe it would have cost too much to re-shoot the scene. In either case, it's an interesting blooper.

Looks like the YT recording system changed and lost lost some text. There was a comment concerning the horses always being run, and its no longer there. Most of what I originally typed went into the black hole. As a teen in the 60's, I started riding rental horses with friends and I watched how the movie cowboys rode their horses and I rode rental horses the same way - whipping 'em with the reins to run, yanking the reins to slow 'em down or stop 'em, and running them hard enough to get my money's worth. Karma caught up with me, and I had to pay for a horse. So this explains my statement, " I gotta make a public announcement: don't ride horses the way the movie cowboys rode their mounts."

🎥 On John Wayne's works: Those on the lesser side tend to be the earlier, "fillers", shorter stories made for Saturday Matinees, for the younger movie goers. They were block scripts with little in the way of Director and Producer, which have the greater impact on the quality of a movie. (Even a weak actor can appear to be seasoned with a good Director and Production Crew.) John Wayne worked, and worked, and worked, until he finally got the opportunity to work with a Premium Director and Production Company. Director, "John Ford", in "Stagecoach" was his first real quality film and his acting was far better. He often said, "I'm not a good Actor, mostly I play myself . Meaning he may have been in the lead roles, but he largely was. Character Actor. However, he was so experienced, he came to do it with ease. He was such a a staple in Westerns, as I grew up, that he was just "John Wayne" and his Character style unique, he was adored by 95% of the Public. It was his perspective that he carried in his films that folks agreed with and admired.

Put yourself in years 1940s on limited budget with world wars coming and going. The acting in the older films is much better because they don’t have support of all technical extras like color, sound, artificial landscapes and lots of stunt people. It is amazing how many older films have become classics

Bunch of evil brutes. The descendents of these gun slinging thieves and rogues are still going strong today. With greater speed than horses and weapons more powerful than rifles and pistols, it's no wonder society is such an embarrassment. Horses are the most beautiful animals. And cows and bulls the most generous and useful, to plow the land and give milk, cheese, butter, ice cream and yogurt. But why the mass slaughter when the innocent creatures have a soul just as a pet dog or cat. Cow is mother to us all. Because man has dominion, that means man must protect and nurture all animals. I love America. Lets be better humans though. In God we must trust.

you're far to sensitive and tender about it all , yes theres always those rotten evil people who war and slaughter other people and yes we must be respectful of all animals as we were given this earth to manage it and all things in a way GOD would expect but we raise animals for the purpose of surviving and being healthy ourselves , eating meat is in our dna and we should not be ignorant that children need proper protein to grow and develop properly , to withhold those essential proteins is an evil in itself as we do not have proper physical health without them . yes , it is a cruel business with the greedy ones and americans are very overfed and obese due to making pigs of themselves but there needs to be some animal protein in our diets
