Mantan Moreland is a scene stealer in every movie and tv show that he appeared in. "i thought I was a bit off-color to be a ghost!" I literally spit my drink across the room!" That was just four minutes into the film. Later: "I'm afraid it was no accident. We were on our way to the Bah-hay-mus..." THANKS for uploading for us, so glad I subscribed to your channel.

I love the ACTING in these old movies! I'll never understand how anyone could think that the comic genius of Mantan Moreland was "demeaning" to anyone. It's takes real skill to play the parts he did.
@todaynow15633 жыл бұрын
Tina Gallagher it was not Mantan Morelands skills as a actor that was in question it was the parts he was offered, he was very funny and took the low end parts offered and made them work as any true actor does, he got what was offered in that slot in time in the movies. He had steady work and a descent income.

I bought a really nice collectors set of zombie movies a couple of years ago. It was $99.00 and there are 20 films in the set. They came in a large tin container shaped and colored like a hideous zombie face. Inside are 10 DVDs with two movies on each disc. Each disc is in its own cardboard sleeve and each sleeve has really cool scary and creepy artwork on it. There’s also a big booklet that gives a history and backstory on each movie. I’m glad I bought it because King of the Zombies is one of my favorite movies in the set. 😊

Dick Purcell (1905 - 1944) was most famous for playing Captain America aka Grant Gardner, District Attorney in Part One of an intended 15 part series of 15 minute serials which was completed only a few weeks prior to his sudden death. It became well known for a rather high camp mock seriousness which involved weapons called the Dynamic Vibrator (don't laugh!) and the Electronic Firebolt. Purcell appeared in a long list of mostly B grade potboilers. This film was originally intended to star Bela Lugosi but that failed as did an attempt to recruit Peter Lorre.

Now _this_ is a cut above the usual B-movie, unless you just 'watch the movie'. Mantan managed to speak to every viewer, whatever their persuasion, and it seems to me that in this film, he has a much more significant role. The additional African American actors open up a much larger part of the film to their talents, which are _so good_ as to be taken for granted. A good actor makes it seem that _anybody_ could do that. Take the character of Momba, The Butler - a pretty seedy guy. Here's a snip from the wikipedia about Leigh Whipper: _______ Whipper was the son of African-American educator, author and activist Frances Rollin Whipper and a nephew of abolitionist William Whipper, attorney William J. Whipper. Educated at Howard University Law School, he left in 1895 and never practiced as a lawyer. _______ Others have impressive backgrounds, and they all make this fun film a real standout. Thank you for posting it!
