Love this so far lionheart! I’ve noticed with my own campaign (did a trial run and then an actual one), at turn 25ish/30ish everyone Who isn’t in my league, that I have treaties with starts breaking every agreement I have with them. Playing as Hector can be quite difficult

I’m curious lionheart, how do you move your whole army formation (as you did at 9:13 in the video). I’ve been trying to figure it out. Do I have to lock the formation of my units once highlighted or what? Thanks for the assistance!

select the units you want to move, then hold the left alt button en left mouse button. you can use control to shift the whole formation to left or right as well.

Playing as Hector the missions are crazy, I build the aphrodite temple, mission asked for Apollo temple, changed it to apollo, then after that it wants a temple of zues... Think I need more cities to build temples in 🤔😂

You can switch your existing temple to worship another god, it still completes Priam's whims

Love the game, but dissapointed that there’s no shield wall or pike formations. Hope they change that.

Just an observation LH, but it seems like Hector is NOT very good at going 1v1 against enemy heroes; that’s more what Achilles does, and in fact going 1v1 versus Achilles is what gets him killed in the Iliad. I dunno how to fix that here though, since it seems his playstyle revolves around a bunch of tough heavy infantry units that are kind of already dead for you.

I think that is very weird though. Hector is a great warrior in the Ilias too isnt he.

@@chryzos3091 Hektor is noted as the best warrior in Troy, with the second largest body count in the Iliad, racking up 30 named character kills. That's three times as many as the next best Trojan warrior (Aeneas, 10 named characters), and 5 less than the highest-scoring Greek (Diomedes, 35 named characters, including the wounding of Aphrodite and MOTHERFUCKING ARES). Achilles, by contrast, gets only 24 kills of named characters before he is killed by the most useless, and hated man in Troy. Achilles body count is less than that of his friend/cousin/lover Patrokles (27 kills) who required the combined efforts of Hektor, Apollo, and some random guy on his first day of battle to kill. Though, in all fairness to Achilles, the guy only fights in 2 of the 24 books of the Iliad. But, yeah, Hektor should be decent in 1v1.

Chryzos It’s true, but this has no basis on mechanics in the actual game; every time LH has put Hector against another Hero solo he’s been only barely victorious, so either Hector beating heroes requires more active micromanagement then LH is giving him or he needs to stack the odds in his favor better. Heroes overall seem slightly less powerful then in say, Three Kingdoms or Warhammer in this; a well-built hero can hold their own against toughened units pretty well but Troy heroes get a lot fewer upgrades it seems maybe?

So has anyone encountered the AI using the mythological units yet? In my Aeneas campaign I encountered an army with a unit called a Giant vanguard around turn 12 which I thought was insane.

Yeah have found the AI fields them if they can recruit them.

Yeah harpies are the most common fielded ones but I've seen the centuar in army builds for my allies as well ai seems to love it some mythical troops

Just go for a lower difficulty and listen to your advisor. Learn the game by playing. On many accounts TW games are very much as every other RT-Strategy - its scissors, stone, paper. Spears are good against large units like horses or minotaurs and strong defenders, swords are good against all infantry but spears, ranged units are super against spears and so on. The campaign map is a different thing but easy to learn. Just try to use agents to spy ahead of your armies and try to build up your economy as soon as possible.

Is it just me or is Troy a lot harder than TW:W2? My first siege I lost 75% of my army before the battering rams could bust down the gates. I had 17 units to their 12 and lost miserably. I even had my spy poison their wells to make them all very weak prior to the attack, meaning most of the damage was caused by the towers and gates.

Hector seens to be a weaky hero or Achilles is to much strong. Last ep Hector almost lost a battle versus a normal hero.

I've all but finished my Troy campaign on veteran veteran and haven't lost a fight with Hector even against 3 enemy heroes. The trick is to take the healing Talents 5hp passive and the aoe healing makes a huge difference. It doesn't sound like much but it adds up especially when you activate that ultimate ability.

@@lionheartx10 Yeah that one sucked too just not as bad as thins one. The combat is the worst looks so downgraded. no finishers. All character have been reskinned from WH1/2. Really cheap from CA. Glad we were able to get it for free.

Wesley S yeah battles aren’t quite right in Troy right now collision is all over the place however despite that and lack of matched combat the campaign gameplay is vastly better than Thrones and the games overall pacing so for me at least Thrones remains bottom of the pile

honestly for me by far the worst was and is Rome 2. It more or less dumbed down many great mechanics from the earlier titles. Three Kingdoms brought these mechanics back. If you look at the game in a neutral way, it is one of the best - only thing it is lacking is different victory conditions. If WH wouldnt have the unit variety due to the fantasy setting, the game would be as blunt as Rome 2. The campaign and especially the diplomacy is so very basic it hurts, Three Kingdoms is much much better in this regard. As is this game. From all the titles i possess and have played yet (and this means all but Attilla and Troy), Rome II is the only one I never finished a campaign. It is just too boring

The greatest problem with this game is that flanking and surrounding people is so fucking strong, its annoying as hell. While i completely get that excellent moral low-tier spearmen can get wrecked ten to one in melee against slingers scaling a wall because they get up one by one and i didn't check the slinger's melee capabilities, they must be amazing tough. What i don't get is how 300 men can rout 15-1600 medium-tier/infantry units in seconds. Their troops were not even high tier, it was two units of young spears and a light swordsman against 14 units of massed club infantry (which costs bronze to make but luckily only takes food in upkeep) and one high tier spearmen. The reason they got routed? Because the swordsmen held an alley that i was assaulting and one young spears came in from the side and the other came down from the walls in the middle of my troops thereby causing them to think they were completely surrounded so all of them fled right into the city dying in droves... I am never again assaulting a city in that game unless i can ensure that i can envelop their troops twice over and that the walls are incredibly long so i have plenty of chances to flank them, because fighting for the walls or charging troops through a breach is just not possible, its like the good old pike V all over again, just slightly more powerful.

To be fair, things like that occurred in history. I just read an account of The Vandalic War where 600 Huns serving under Belisarius managed to rout a force of 2000 Vandals. Even more insane: The engagement started when a lone Hun rode out ahead of the group to face them alone. If the account is true, the Vandal force was completely eradicated.

In real life you would never even try to besiege/attack a city unless you had at least 3 times as many troops as the city did. So position (especially height/walls) count for a lot.

Tbh the gameplay isnt that good since TW: Shogun 2. They started this "Statbased"-Strategy with Rome 2 and it was annoying as hell especially when you wanted to play historical correct in terms of army line-up. (Rome Campaign was pretty much Pret. and Balearic Slingers and then auto solve until win) The Range Units are as op as they where in Rome 2 Pre Nerf ... so basically you have an army with 10 Slingshot units and some T2 melee units and you can win any battle in Troy. Idk TW is a dead Series until they release a good TW Game again ... at least it was for free and only 90 days left until Cyberpunk 2077
