100%. My wife is a doctor. When she started her practice, she put a lot of stress and pressure on herself, partly because of the 6 figure student loans we were still paying off. I would then tell her about my parents, and their lives as small business owners. Some people were into their businesses for about the same amount as my wife was in for her education. The difference was that if everything went to heck, they’d lose everything and have nothing to show for it. On the other hand, she’d always have that education no matter what.

My father told me same thing the Williams sisters' dad did; except he said, "a *Blk* woman". I ended up being one if the first women if color in the PC/Network consulting business on Wall St. in the 1980s/90s. My eldest daughter followed in my footsteps. She started a program in NYC Parks and Rec for women of color in technology a few years ago. Contrary to popular belief, melanated Aboriginal and/or African descended people come from close knit families that strive for whatever they can make from the cards they have been dealt. Most of our successes are ignored by the mainstream in order to perpetuate the myth of the tragic 'blk' man/woman. Enough is enough already. --------- -------- ---------

Yes I’m not a big tennis fan but 20 years ago when I was at school (uk) I loved watching Wimbledon every year. Really saw these shine and remember seeing on the news a short clip of their dad training them on the court with a shopping trolley full of tennis balls. I didn’t realise until this trailer that they was from Compton. In England we have a few public tennis courts that can be used, but it’s mostly a privileged sport and not played in the majority of comprehensive schools as they don’t have tennis court facilities. To think this man believed in his children so much and trained them so hard to what they become today is unbelievable. All people are gifted in some way. But for them both to rise to the top of this game is a true testament to how hard he trained them. I bet it wasn’t all happy, but to where they got to and where they came from is truly unbelievable and bet there was a lot of prejudice/ snobbery they had to deal with too.

I disagree with this statement. I know what Mr Williams looks like and sounds like. In fact, I thought is this going to be about the Williams girls before I even knew because of how familiar I am with him. He got his credit in the beginning. Everyone knew how hard he worked with them. Like every good father should do, he knew when to step aside and give his girls the limelight and not be trying to get it for himself.

@Janky Actually, success can be objective as well. For example, I'm not a success because I earn less now than I did two years ago, despite having attained 3 college degrees. Wealth and accolades (awards) are a clear, objective method of measuring success. Now, if you relate your success to that of others it becomes relative, perhaps even subjective. If you define it by an objective measure, however, success can be easily determined.
