In July 711 AD, the Muslims defeated the Goths at the decisive battle of Guadalete, ending their rule in Europe and beginning an Era of Muslim dominion on the Iberian Peninsula. In this video I explore the events leading up to and myths about this famous and most significant change in the European balance of power.
*Note: Antonio Fray Agapida is often cited as a contemporary of Roderic by Washington Irving in his book Spanish Papers to lend the stories within some kind of authority. I couldn’t find whether or not this could have some truth to it or if he was a totally fictitious character made up for literary reasons.
