In 1999 saw the band in a tiny club in Glasgow and only had a copy of Dogman . They were stunning and the sing along song that night was A Box . As we queued up to get into the gig some guys squeezed past us and only later did I realise it was the band . Been going to gigs for 50 years , that night in the top three , incredible band !!

My gawd they sound amazing here (they always have). I'll never forget the first time I heard/saw them was opening up for Living Colour at The Sunrise Musical Theater in Ft. Lauderdale. I went to see Living Colour but went home a life long Kings X fan!

I was there also. My brother and I had front-row left side of the stage. They blew Living Color away🤣

Gretchen goes to London, I bought the dvd from Molken Music. It's a must have. King's X reinvented my idea of hard rock in less than a year. This gig is just unbelievable, the feedback from the crowd amazes me every time.

This is what they opened with when I saw them open for Billy Squier and Blue Murder in 1989. They opened with "King" when I saw them in '88 and earlier in '89.

I WAS THERE!!! I actually recorded the concert - This video from Molken is only supposed to be 60 odd min, but the whole performance was around 100 min. Kings X were only just starting to gain cult status in London, but they stopped touring London for about 7 years and didnt even get to promote their self titled album around 92. They shoulda been regarded in the same breath as Nirvana and GnR. I also was there at their 1st 2 Marquee Club gigs. Both were far superior than this

Paul Watson cool! I love the self-titled album! I wonder what happened regarding their first producer Sam Taylor to turn them apart

I noticed that. In the beginning, their love of God was well documented, hence the uplifting songs. Around Dogman, they started to publicly turn AGAINST God. Maybe it was a ploy to gain more fans. Shame really, as they also turned their back on the glorious 3 way harmonies which really stood them apart from other bands at the time.

Hey, I have every album of Kings X, all of Dugs albums, all his side projects incl KXM, Pinnock Gales Pridgen and the impressive 3rd Ear Experience etc, plus the Jelly Jam stuff etc of Ty . I know Jerry has a solo project too. It is very uncommon for a band to continually churn out classics many years after their peak, but if they can still perform their early album classics live such as Moan Jam, Goldilox, Shot of love etc with the same gusto as yesteryear with their more recent cuts, they remain important as they should be. Most bands that have been around as long as Kings X cannot reproduce the same energy today as their heyday. Bands like Status Quo, Rolling Stones etc show they are long past their sell by date due to age catching up with them. However there are the odd few like Rush who continually delivered great shows. Same with Kings X

Kings X's 1st 4 albums were all remarkable, and the thing which epitomised those albums was the glorious harmonies. It was when they turned to grunge styled music, the quality of the band suffered big time (Sorry to say) Would love to hear Dug sing stuff like Not just for the dead/Fine art of friendship/ and ANYTHING from their absolutely mindblowing Out of the Silent Planet

If they don't make Dogman, they're done as a band. Dogman, Ear Candy, and Tapehead are just as incredible.
@arongamman93604 жыл бұрын
When did they turn grunge? The first album? You mean before there was any? Dogman was a change, but I think it was a necessary improvement. It kept them alive. I can respect if we have different perceptions, though.
