They underrate their performance. I've had a 6L that gained 0.5 sec per MONTH. If you're that worried about the "lottery" then just go have it regulated at the same time you buy it and you'll get better performance than Swiss superlative chronometers 10x the price.

@jimlee3725 because then it remains "in spec" and they dont have to provide service under warranty. If you guarantee, say +- 5 spd and the watch starts running at +-6 spd within warranty then they would have to service. It also means they can spend less money on regulation from factory. That reduces the price. Doesn't mean the movement is not capable of being chronometer level accurate with a little regulation.
