I lived on one side of Oliville he lived on the other side. You would see him everywhere,on the 2 train,at Evander High school,at all the local partys and clubs,in the local parks and we all knew the story about Ice Cube stealing his song and it’s true,SUN did put hands on ice cube. If you were from the hood and you knew SUN or people he knew he would show love all the time but seriously though,EVERYONE knew that he was a monster.

Dre has a whole building named after himself and Jimmy Iovene at USC so I think that counts for a little responsibility. Not only that the diversification of income and raised profile is an example to all those that come from these areas that they can do more than sell dope and rap. LA ain’t like some of these other places. A middle class family can live right next to a dope house and have a whole gang operating at the corner so the broken window theory of some of those people not being from the streets is kinda off because out here, people do dirt because they want to. It’s not always socio-economical. And everybody knows flicking cigarette butts out the wi dow is littering, especially if the cops are in tracking mode!! C’mon Sun! Lol😂

They existed, but they weren't as large as they are today. Plus, they were youth gangs that eventually grew out of that faze in life and got jobs and raised families. NWA and the movie Colors were responsible for the growth of gangs.
@AnthonyDRLopez Жыл бұрын
Ok ladies and gents I want us to listen to early lyrics and watch music videos. And it's very clear the difference between a SCHOOLY D and ICE T to the actual NWA and beyond era. BTW the record labels simply exploited what was a huge untapped market such as the West Coast. Also, kooknat the incarceration rates of the years prior and after so so-called gangster rap. And for those of you from the West Coast this is why your righteous cats, true lyricists and emcees were put to the back. Gangbanging imagery took over “talent”. Shout out to DEL, DEF JEF and too many others who got shelves because they didn't fit the AGENDA aka Community Destruction.
@onceagain6184 Жыл бұрын
That is pure nonsense! First of all, Schooly D is not a gangsta rapper. That is a common misconception because Ice T said his first song was INSPIRED by Schooly D's FLOW. Second, the bulk of so-called positive rap came out around the same time as NWA and positive rap continued after NWA broke up. Lastly, you're correct about labels wanting to make money but the conspiracy of the man trying to bring down the Black man through music is a pathetic excuse for lack of personal accountability.

Yeah he's bugging out. I guess he never seen the movie The Warriors period in the Bronx there were gangs all over the place. My father was a gang banger who got stabbed 18 times in the seventies. Gangs have been around there's nobody to blame. Slavery is to blame. segregation is to blame. I don't agree that it's NWA to blame. Poverty is to blame and that's in my opinion respectfully
@onceagain6184 Жыл бұрын
You obviously don't understand the topic. No intelligent person would say that NWA is responsible for creating gangs and violence. NWA helped to spread West Coast gang culture and that is a fact!
@puffinstein Жыл бұрын
@@onceagain6184 I understand the topic perfectly I don't think you understand. I come from gang culture do you? NWA isn't responsible for anything. Slavery is. You need to wake up. I'm out here helping people in the ghetto so I could talk on it. I'm actively in Bedford Stuyvesant and Bushwick helping people everyday. Slavery and segregation is the blame for all this nonsense. you can't blame people writing aggressive poetry on the murders in the nation and the murder in rap at the moment. In 1990 there was 2,800 murders in NYC and that's before the Bloods we're really lit in new york. while everybody's talking about how horrible the gangs are there's only 350 murders last year opposed to 2800 in 1990 in NYC. Not only are things better now in NYC they're eight times to 9 times better. What he said doesn't even make any sense and I stand on that no matter what anybody says. Especially somebody that doesn't even have a profile picture. Respectfully
@puffinstein11 ай бұрын
I meant what I said but I also want to let people know that I have a ton of respect for King Sun. All I'm saying is I respectfully disagree because there was a lot of violence and wrap before NWA came along if you listen to the lyrics even mentions of murders and gangs. Also gangs were around way before bloods and crips. That tough guy stuff was going to enter the rap no matter what. Poverty breeds ignorance. I'll agree with him a 100% when he says that guys like Dr Dre and ice cube should be giving more to the hood and to people they came up with. He's right when you say you don't see yella or MC Ren . And if I was a billionaire I would make sure my teammate was always good but you never know a Ren is living lovely off Dr Dre even though I have a feeling that's not the case but I agree with him when he says that the people that have that large amount of money should help the poverty stricken for sure especially since they capitalized. But I still stand on that. Gangs were going to enter the picture no matter what
@slapopimp10 ай бұрын
@@puffinstein__ King Sun will be 80yrs old still talking about Cube & NWA. The narrative is old and nobody cares at this point. Gangs have always existed well before any members of NWA were even born. They're not the cause of destruction in Black communities in the US. If he wants to make the argument it caused issues in other regions of the world like Japan where young Japanese youths are apparently in love with Black culture and culture jack, may be a more relevant point. A number of these young Blk males come from broken and dysfunctional homes living in poverty. Most are void of a father figure to love and guide them into manhood. Since a great number of minority homes have no generational wealth or assets of any kind to pass down, they take on the attitude to get what they want by any means. This is not a point and blame in any one direction issue. Too many moving parts to talk about in the comment section.
